Good video & commentary Reg...... even though you did touch 72MPH on your overtake towards the end. Recognised exactly where you were at the very start. Our neck of the woods confirmed when you turned onto Hall Lane, passing Lathom Park School, top of Cranes Lane & Pilks then turning left at the Plough, with signs for M58, M6, Ormskirk, Westhead & Newbrough. Yes, yesterday was one of the best 'dry' days this month. I was riding little north, Hoscar, Bispham, Mawdesley, Croston, Wrightington areas. Will be watching your bike-videos with keen interest, thanks.
Great video and great use of IPSGA. As you said information starts when you get on the bike until you get off. I say use IPSGA from to start to finish and you will finish where you want to go. Don't use it and most probably you won't arrive or you were just having a lucky day. Keep the videos coming.
Again a decent explanation of bike.....it was bike wasn't it...bike control and IPSGA . Not enough videos explaining advanced riding, yes riding, and the merits. A nice calm commentary without the big preach. Mike Waite has a good DVD out about Police Advanced riding techniques and worth checking out.....I think you similarities...Spot on.
Thank You very much for sharing this...i found this very helpful. As well as honing my ridng skills I had my son who has just passed his car test watch this with me, so that he could take in some of these gems that you are sharing, Cheers! RxR
I remember Skelmersdale from the mid 1980's but not the ring road. I recall that there were some lovely houses at bargain prices though. I really enjoyed the video and 'system' really works for all road vehicles regardless of the number of wheels. Always useful to see IPSGA used in conjunction with some good clear Reg Local commentary.
The latest versions of Roadcraft try to break the perception that Information is complete when you move on to Position, by only having 4 phases PSGA and separating out Information in to a process. Personally I've never seen it as a problem that the Information phase is running all the time, but I guess they were brow beaten by the critics who de-cry the methodology of IPSGA.
Cheers Reg, find training videos very useful, refreshes thought process before getting back on the bike which makes for a better and safer ride, passed my test 2 years ago, took bike safe course last year which i enjoyed and gave me more confidence and gave me a taster what advanced riding looks like
Good video, sounded like i was listening to my instructor who i passed first time on mod-1 and 2 with - he was bike police also and teaches exactly like this.
Keep them coming, Reg! You made me want my bike licence last year, so I mentioned it to my Mrs... and she bought me flying lessons for Christmas, because it's 'safer'. Advanced & Performance Flying?... I'll get on a bike yet!
An interesting and informative video Reg and good to see you providing the excellent learning for bikes as have for cars. Your location seems very similar to Milton Keynes, which is our local site for roundabout practice! I have always been taught the importance of rear vision when approaching a roundabout on a bike, making sure any vehicles behind know your intention - sometimes an early brake light and maybe even a slower entry to avoid stopping if you can. Stationary bikes can so easily be rammed from the rear - sorry mate, didn't see you. Looking forward to the day with you (on cars) in just over a weeks time.
Could you please do a video on gears? You mention that you should not take a gear to decelerate but use the brakes. At 11:00 you're in 6th gear, slow to nearly 20mph and then drop 3 gears with the quick shifter. What would the correct process be for doing this on a bike without a quick shifter? By the time you've dropped 3 gears the engine would be nearly at idle and it would take a calculated blip of the throttle to ensure smoothness.
Perhaps you could call it "system of vehicle control" or simply keep it to "system" to cover all bases? I love the videos for both car and bike. Always fun and very educational.
Regarding the Speed:Gear phase. How does that work when slowing to a stop? As you slow you either need to drop down the gears or pull in the clutch, block change before you get too slow to change gear, and coast the last bit.
Long time since I was on a bike. Good video Reg. you know it is an age thing when you keep forgetting you are doing a video on motorcycle control and keep saying car control. Lol
Enjoying your videos. Nice riding and very informative. I have a question please? Can you do an advanced driving test on a DCT bike? I've been reading the police riders handbook and I have a bike safe course booked with the Thames Valley Police.
Hi Michael, I’m interested to see that it’s “obvious” that I’ve never been to Milton Keynes. What element of this video suggests I’ve never been to Milton Keynes? In reality, I have been to Milton Keynes on more than one occasion, but I’m now concerned that my Milton Keynes experience is not obvious & that people will generally consider me to be a Milton Keynes virgin. Do you think I give the impression that there are other places I haven’t been to which, in reality I have? Leeds perhaps? Or Basingstoke? Or Oswestry? I’ve been to all of those, but I’m really worried that people will think that I haven’t. At the other end of the scale, is it possible that people will think I have been to Ipswich when the truth is that I haven’t? I may not sleep tonight…
@@RegLocal Hi Reg, My comment was about Roundabouts, in this video you say Skelmersdale has a heck of a lot of them, i was just saying that MK has a heck of a lot more of them too, MK is in the gunness book of records as having the most roundabouts in the UK (Average of 1.46 per 1 kilometer) Its ok if you want to get your knee down (I dont) as i ride a tiger explorer 1200. PS: I love your videos, ive only just found you due to a recommendation by a friend (John Presland) I think you may know him ?
I wanted to learn to motorcycle and tried the CBT but had an awful day with an awful bike and awful instructor and it put me well off. If the instructor was like this ---- who knows!

Very good video and commentary Reg. I live in the South East and I would love to ride on roads as empty as yours!

Really enjoying your videos, they are clear, concise and extremely informative, much appreciated.

Rainmaker Raw PPL student here (also have a bike licence). Try getting life insurance cover with light aircraft usage, very expensive.
Nice video as always! You should make a video on bike coutersteering, smooth gear changing and rev matching.

Absoutely brilliant video, thank you for this!
Thanks for the nice ride, Reg! Enjoyed it!
Immensely useful video, thank you.
motorcycle upshifting and downshifting, rev matching while doing so videos. thanks And how to be in right speed , right gear all the time.

Rev click technique is often useful to avoid this.

I’ll cover gears & the gear phase in detail in a future video.

Hi Richard. Yes, you can take the advanced test on a DCT equipped bike.
Hi Reg, Reference roundabouts , you obviously have not been to Milton Keynes, maybe you should pay a visit too MK.

Brilliant stuff, just brilliant!
Surely skem hasn’t got more roundabouts that Milton Keynes?
reg did your books sell only on amazon?
What part of the country is this Reg?
Hi, this video was made in and around Skelmersdale in South West Lancashire.
I wanted to learn to motorcycle and tried the CBT but had an awful day with an awful bike and awful instructor and it put me well off. If the instructor was like this ---- who knows!
