He's the meme of that guy in the corner who's judging everyone else at the party as they frolic, mingle, and dance, utterly oblivious to his presence. Throughout this whole video, he sounds like an 11-year-old who's really proud of himself for being cooler and older than his 8-year-old sister.
Well, and I've long felt that people with absolutely *no* sense of humor, whimsy, and/or imagination are often toxic to themselves and others, and Gavin McInnes was nice enough to provide evidence of that here. I live with my BF and his old highschool friend whos an ex marine (he hated serving but did it for the perks like collage and training) my BF and I live in a house he owns. Before moving in with them I lived in a house full of gamers, even my old highschool friends and many online friends I've made live on their own and still game.
The folks who live their parents still do so because they cannot afford to move out (housing costs) or because they are absolute failures and take their self loathing out on others, all because they feel powerless in life.

For someone who claimed to live through this Bohemian-era Canadian graphic novel boom, you'd think he know about Scott Pilgrim, the graphic novel that shows its main character dating a minor... and heavily inspired by anime.
There's a ton of mental gymnastics that goes into trying to differentiate graphic novels with manga. Especially when the line's been blurred decades ago

To be fair to SP, all of the characters thinks it's creepy, the relationship is never physical, is more or less one sided, and it's broken off early in the series. Scott's relationship with Knives is more or less used to show how at the start of the narrative he's a crappy immature person that takes advantage of a smitten high schooler to give him attention, and he obviously doesn't really care about her.

There are many things that can be enjoyed that weren't originally designed around kids (and/or a juvenile mindset). If someone is comfortable enjoying things that were originally made for kids, then fine, whatever, you do you, but you're acting as though all enjoyable things are equal in value in the adult world. That's like saying all cultures are equally good at all things. It's a false equivalence.
The thing is, games aren't all designed around kids. The gaming industry has grown up with the kids from the late 80's and early 90s, so, yes, while there's a gaming industry for children, there's a different one aimed at adults. And enjoyment is subjective, so yes, all enjoyable things are equally valid. If you'd like to try to argue against the subjectivity of things people enjoy, be my guest, but you won't be successful.
@@Kawamura2 Comic books like the Marvel and DC comics, were certainly not originally designed for people in their 40s to enjoy. Those intellectual properties were youth-oriented. The silly costumes after someone learns they have a superpower. The silly names. The corny villains. Sure, I enjoyed the 1970s and early 80s superman movies when I was a kid. Now I just enjoy the John Williams score for them, and Christopher Reeve's acting.
For those that are currently older, it's nostalgia that people are going after, and that's fine too, but it originated around things originally designed for kids and teenagers.
And no, all enjoyable things are not equal, at least not in society. Sure, subjectively between each person, sure, but not to society at large. You can't compare putting together model airplanes with playing with My Little Pony dolls.

I would say Attack on Titan does appeal to perverts, but a different kind. It appeals to torture porn people, who get their kicks seeing people, often especially kids or pets, being tortured or brutally killed. A more extreme example I was really vocal about when it was fresh is Magical Girl Raising Project. It has the loli thing too which makes it obvious, but the perverse thing is that it's a show about minors in cutesy outfits being horrifically killed and seeing their close friends murdered in front of them. Madoka Magica is the lite version of that with a lot of emotional trauma and death of the characters. As someone who stopped reading Attack on Titan, I can actually not say that the author isn't a pervert. He is very politically fucked up though. That I can say without squinting.
Please don’t lump Madoka Magica in with torture porn. It can appeal to people who like that, but there’s a *lot* more to the show than that.

I'd say that's fairly incorrect, or at least not representative of why AOT broadly appeals. It's just the Starship Troopers thing. Scorned, naive kids signing up to the military to fight for their people, with serious undertones as the show goes on that they arent the good guys. You have the audience that watches it, that understands the subtext by the end of the show, and the audience that loves fascism as the end all, be all, might makes right messaging. It's the same discourse as Starship Troopers or Helldivers, more than it's torture porn. Not to say it isnt a brutal anime, but I just dont think at all that the characters being brutalized is why its story is popular. It's the undertones, it's the "we are right to do this/are we right to do this?" Nature of the show. Great anime, always a solid recommend, especially for the last seasons, when the vale is lifted on what is actually going on.
