34:00 There's a saying in the military: blame goes uphill, shit rolls downhill. I guarantee you that if CEOs started facing complete asset forfeiture and prison time, they'd get a whole lot more involved with ensuring these sweat shops don't happen. The 'plausible deniability' line is bullshit. The entire reason all these companies go to the third world for their manufacturing is that they are cheaper. The reason that they are cheaper is because they don't have to follow our labor, safety, and environmental laws. There is no way people like Tim Cook do not know this. If they genuinely cared about such things, they'd use American labor because, unlike the third world, we have a robust network of laws, labor unions, and watch dog groups that make infractions unlikely to slip past the radar for very long.
Those people have too much money to throw away at attorneys, judges and politicians to ever face prison time for anything less than widely witnessed mass murder. But yeah, of course they know, anything to increase the bottom line.
Too many people want to work minimum wage at some dead end mcdonalds job. Why they don't ever attempt to unionize proves my point. To quote the Eurythmics, "Some of us wanna get used by you"

I mean.... hello!? How else am I supposed to know how to live my life?! No, no sir.... Tim Cook is obviously busy.
This reminds me of something that happened at an old job;
My employer, a customer service agency (lets call it company X) had a contract with a store for e-commerce (company Y).
When a new manager came in for company X, company Y was uncertain that he would be able to do the job efficiently. To be able to secure his position, he promised to cut costs by 50% for company Y.
Obviously, as you can expect, a lot of people in higher up positions were fired or quit over wage cuts, and our holiday overtime bonuses were delayed by months.
The quality of the service fell drastically, so company Y asked to renegotiate the terms of the contract. They agreed they'd keep the contract if company X would commit to keeping the costs around 50%, while increasing the quality of the service...
You can see where I'm going with this; essentially companies bully each other into cutting costs as an alternative to improving service quality- both companies want a balance of both, but at the end of the day if the service quality goes higher company X still won't pay company Y more money.
Always nice to see that companies have learned from history. History has shown time and time again that slave and slave-like labor is more damaging to businesses in the long term, but as always, short term greed will be the downfall of society
its not damaging to corporations so much as it is society. it is quite EXTREMELY profitable to perpetuate slave-like labor. apple is realistically making the optimal move here like Louis says, because no one is holding them accountable.
@@ChamplooMusashi Not true. It increases profits in the short term, but the long term effects are still damaging to businesses, as it discourages productivity, discourages workers innovating to make their job and the company more efficient. Not too mention the lower wages often inhibits the workers themselves from being able to buy the very product they're making, prevents them from better they're own lives which increases demand and drives innovation in other areas, which can often benefit the original company either directly or indirectly, and on and on and on and on.
The same damn thing has occurred dozens of times across history, from slavery in Rome to slavery in the South.
So yeah, short term increases in profits, but shooting themselves in the foot in the long term
@@jacob_90s the business might dissolve, but all the people who got rich off it will still be rich when all is said and done. There are consequences, sure, but they fall squarely on the shoulders of the very employees being exploited, not on the people in charge.

I have been laughing at Apple for their supposed wokeness for years now. You are welcome to join in.
@@WarrenGarabrandt I actually didn’t realize how woke they had become...as I type on my iPad and await the delivery of a MacBook from IT at work. 🙄
@@TheRyujinLP exactly, this is the cultural marxist covert insurrection (political coup) being witnessed currently
Where I work, they were treating my department (I work in manufacturing) like crap. We were paid on time, sure, but the disrespect in all other areas was insane. Worse, we were paid less than other comparable jobs in the area. In the middle of all that, the bosses made personal purchases and stored them on company grounds. Purchases costing in excess of $400k.
Most people would look at this situation and go "Well, you're lucky to have a job." True, but it doesn't discount the issues. Or they would say "You could always find another job." Normally yes, but not so much in 2020. Or "You are just grunts making parts. Like you are so special." This last bit is the part that, though not all of us may have realized it specifically, is the worst incorrect thing.
Without our department of some 20 people, the entire half a billion dollar a year company (which is not terribly huge at some ~120 people) would not just grind to a halt, it would collapse. No one has any SOP for the parts we make. Nothing is up to date within 3 years, and significant changes to procedure and technique have been made to accommodate new models, and clients/engineer requests. Yes, a person working where I work can get spooled up and start manufacturing parts within a few weeks. Within a month, they can be a useful member of the team with relatively little continued supervision. But that requires that they are trained and watched over by the people working there. If we all quit, there is *NO ONE* in the company outside our department that could build the parts, nor train new people on how to build parts. The production would stop, the clients and contracts could not be fulfilled, and the company would face incredibly hard times. All because 20 or so people decided to move on and work elsewhere if they so chose.
Most employees, regardless of skill, rarely realize that they are important to their employer, and most employers really would rather not bring the subject up for obvious reasons.
Louis: "This would aggrevate me greatly."
What hurts is how ignorant someone would have to be to defend Apple.
Apple: "Hey 'remove' the underaged workers."

It’s like how schools that tell everyone at what time and what day fire dills are always get everyone out in time and in an orderly manner. When you tell people their work is going to be tested you are going to get perfect work out of them
I know you're making an analogy but the point of telling everyone when the drill is is to prevent panic so that people can actually learn the process they need to follow in a real emergency.
@@tissuepaper9962 ... It's good to say it's a drill _after_ everyone has done the procedure.
If they panic during the drill, well, then the drill has uncovered a training issue.
@@tissuepaper9962 at my school fire drill days were the only days that most teachers would do attendance at the start of class. If there was a real fire if it was in the first half of the class most teaches would not be able to be sure if all their students got out or not. If no one was told about fire drill dates then they would have to do attendance at the start of class every day or risk getting in big shit
In all my schools (Germany) we were not told about it beforehand, but we could see in the teachers face that they were calm, so we were calm too.
But teachers doing attendance also wasn't a thing, they knew their students, and just used their eyes to see who's missing, without the students even noticing that they were doing that

you really aren't going to avoid it no matter what you do unless you go into the woods and make your own everything. at some point you have participated in profiting slave labor in some extended fashion. even when you buy things "made in america" the degree to which they are "made" has little regulation. the parts could be assembled in other countries and then the larger unit assembled in the united states. a dryer could have its circuit board printed in mexico, the non digital devices from china, and the 50$ of sheet metal manufactured in america and then assembled. at some point associative profit will find its way to exploitation of labor. its the nature of the beast that is industry

Why put one in that breaks anyways is another question which ought to be investigated (by Apple), assuming they would want to sell a good product, which we all know they do not intend to..
FYI if the buttons stop working 3 weeks after purchase and your genius bar appointment is 5 weeks after purchase, the ShitBook’s keyboard (with un-broken touch-bar at the time of making the appointment) will not be eligible for the generous 4 year warranty!
On this it must be noted, that the old touch-bar of the ShitBook (broken or un-broken at the time of keyboard repair - in that specific case replacement) is thrown into the trash, because the replacement requires replacing both in order to fix the broken keyboard given it is one piece; top case=(aluminium+[touch*bar]+keyboard)

Not “possibly” or “allegedly” these are facts.
It's a way to defend himself himself from legal actions. Apple just need a small reason to do it and they will sue his life out.
@@guymarkman5468 If the actually wanted to, they could sue the sh** out of him based on many many past videos.
This is where I take exception to 'underage workers': There is nothing wrong with working under the age of 18 - as long as that work does not limit a childs' learning. e.g. Washing dishes for a couple of hours a day or doing low risk work in business is actually a benefit to growth. Not only do you earn money to buy your own 'youthful stuff' it exposes youth to a work ethic. It depends on the amount of work those people are expected to do.
Further more, if it is my business and I want to expose my children to my business and industry to make sure my kids get an edge on others, offering them an opportunity to 'work' in my business in holidays or after school is beneficial to me and my kids.
This has been know for years...yet the same people that cry about minimum wage keep buying these phones
So very very odd too. Perplexing.
Why are there no jobs!?
Gee. Well, when Mexico is asking 3 dollars an hour and Americans want 15...
And when businesses aren't even allowed to operate any more, but still have to pay rent because no one in the entire country has decided to waive property taxes and utility bills...
So all the small businesses are gone and all the big businesses are overseas, or across the border...
Yeah, why are there no jobs. -_-
all phones are the same when it comes to this. matter of fact, everything you buy is the same in this way.
Louis, with all do respect, I'm surprised you are still alive.
Happy new year and keep up the good work.
Watching this on a Macbook Air and feeling guilty....
Any time you have a job where you are underpaid it is forced labor. If you are afraid or can't afford to leave then it's work or starve.
They didn't even pay them 6.84$ a month
When IBM selected the Intel 8088 processor for their IBM PC, it was on the condition that AMD be able to manufacture the same processor, because IBM policy at the time was to refuse any single-sourced component.
if corporations could be sith lords, apple would be a sith lord
I'm sorry for all those years i didn't know you man. you're awesome.
The world and brainwashed cult of apple needs to know this...
The cult members don't care. They wouldn't care if the blood of newborn babies was used to make Apple products. They only care about having their over priced products that show how special they are to others.
They can find secret tunnels but they can't find out someone underpaying the workers.
Apple are doing virus vaccine ID cards on the apple wallets 🙄, also I seen the apple advert on TV today in the UK with the phone getting soaked with drinks and things and showing wireless charging.. Im not sure but I think there might not be a charging port?
There has been mention of a folding iPhone here, just like the new Samsung folding phone that's on sale
Check out where the cobalt comes from. Kids as young as FIVE are working and dying in mines in the Congo, where 70% of the worlds cobalt comes from, a vital component in manufacture of lithium batteries.
chinese business also owns half of the mines there and most of the trading houses where cobalt mined by children can be 'lost' with legitimately mined cobalt.
Not only is your phone made by children, but so is your tablet, electric car, home solar batteries, watches, laptops, etc.
Not surprising. At the same time they charge extreme prices for devices that breaks quickly and easily and that they wont fix
In it self it is not bad ... no that bad. Problem is, that all other manufacturers started to price their products accordingly.

Contractors often have two sets of books. The real ones and the ones to provide when they are audited.
Slavery gets things done...cheaply..... Keep that in mind as you pay $1,000 for your monitor stand and $500 for your headphones. Happy New Year!
It’s fucking amazing to me; I have an IPhone (which I ALWAYS buy used). I’m not paying $1,200 for a fucking phone or $300 for earpods or $37 for a damn charger. I don’t understand why people, even if they have the money, are always clamoring to pay outrageous sums for products which obviously cost pennies on the dollar to build.

You think Apple is the only US company doing this??
Did he say that ?
No. Does that excuse Apple? Also a big NO.

I wish electronics were traceable like meat can be, where you can find out what farm it comes from and what slaughterhouse and when. and then attach data relevant to working conditions attached to it.
Oh this is so going to all my apple using family and friends...
I've been over Apple since the first Mac came out and it was 3 times the price of an IBM.
Tell me things in my ear holes Louis, talk dirrrty motherboards to me :)
Damn, Chris could get some ideas after watching this video.
I have never bought an Apple product and never will. I would feel unclean.
Pretending whatever device you use is clean is also potentially silly. All this shit is made in China.
