    Apparently there's six missing episodes known to be in the hands of collectors, would be great to see them soon

    Thank you much for posting this! It's great that more than a 5 minute clip of "Galaxy Four" now exists, and "The Underwater Menace" ep 2 also is fantastic!

    Both UK and Australia had more centralized systems for broadcasting, so they didn't need multiple copies for nationwide broadcasting, and the international copies were often handed on to other countries for them to broadcast in those countries, which is why some countries recieved episodes pre-censored, as Australia often cut clips from episodes for broadcast.

    I hope this attendant publicity AND Doctor Who's high-profile lends a massive boost to the campaign to recover lost episodes. There must be some, somewhere!

    I do think there may be a few more out there, most likely either deep in some archive, or held by a collector who has no idea it is not in the archives.
    Though there are rumors in the fandoms of many BBC shows with missing episodes that some "fans" have missing episodes but aren't giving them back without a reward (using the messed up logic that if the BBC people in the past, before home release was even possible, didn't wan't them, then they won't be giving them back)

    and what a swizz for those of us who already have the Aztecs DVD.....we have to get it again now.

    Yes but he has also stated that he keep some stuff back on the chance of swapping it for other missing material as many didn't want money just other prints. He is a great fan of the show and wants others to enjoy it as much as he does. Why would he continue to hoard?

  • @alphamone
    @alphamone 11 лет назад

    Unfortunately, the vast majority of missing episodes are from seasons three to five, which were sent out to far few countires than the first two seasons (which were quite popular, enough so that only one story is completely missing from the first two seasons, and two other stories are each missing two episodes), unfortunately, the show was in far less demand for quite a while, so only a handful of copies were made of each episode (and in the case of "the feast of steven", no copies were made)

    This is indeed a nice, little extra X-Mas gift for the Doctor Who world.

    The BBC used to give shows like Blue Peter clips to advertise DW. The actual full episode was destroyed before they realized that there was a great interest in preserving old tv shows. The recovered shows are copies of episodes which were sent to BBC affiliates in other countries. In fact, "The Underwater Menace" was edited for content by the Australian Broadcasting Company. So technically, it isn't a complete episode but, given that there is no other complete episode, we'll take it.

  • @Yetaxa
    @Yetaxa 12 лет назад

    @Calavicci9 But if I remember correctly, much of the censored material (including from the Underwater Menace) was found quite a while ago. So even though we don't have the complete episode, we have the other fragments so it can be completed.
    The same cannot be said for the Galaxy 4 episode though...

    so now only 106 of them are missing, way back, there was an episode of doc who that was found in a dads army film case, they should get every TV company from every country that brodcasted 60s doc who episodes and get them to search every film case in their archives, i think if we did that then we are bound to find over 50 more doctor who episodes that are lost

  • @edstradling

    Clips of the episodes are available on the BBC Doctor Who website

    @edstrading if you have a premium account, I believe you can replace a video upload with another, however in your case it may pay to upload the HD footage you have and leave a linked annotation to that video. However I think the footage you've uploaded is great, and this may just be a case of learning for next time.

    I suppose they may be professional traders or collectors who do it partly for money? I'm a professional photographer but despite that sometimes the BBC has asked to use my photography for free. That seems to be some "messed up logic" too, when other contributors to the BBC (eg. Jonathan Ross) and its executives are paid handsomely. It's interesting to see who it thinks should be paid for what and who shouldn't.

    Hello, are you sitting comfortably?
    The first video recorder was the Sony CV 2000 in August 1965.
    We have good evidence that all 6 episodes of the Ice Warriors were video recorded in 1968 but were deleted shortly after.
    The Doctor Who Restoration Team met a man who video recorded The Space Pirates Part 2, which already existed.
    Missing episodes were still being shown in Australia, Singapore, Zambia, Nigeria, Gibraltar in the 70's. Sierra Leone showed Hartnell's in the 80s, who knows....

    @darhq thanks - I uploaded it in SD 7620x576, I do have a HD version but I presume i can't just substitute it and would have to take this video down and re-upload it? I don't want to do that.

  • @edstradling
    @edstradling  12 лет назад

    @scullyluster it was uploaded in higher resolution than you can see - I think they downsize it automatically - not sure why/how.

    Maybe I'm wrong, but I heard that stations around the world were given copies of the serials for local broadcast. Would Jamaica, or South Africa get the BBC feed? I grew up in the 70's watching it on PBS in the US.

    Heres a question for you all....
    If 'Dr Who - The Underwater Menace' has been missing for so long...
    Where are all the videos with clips from the episode coming from? (see over on the right--->)

  • @MasterKasterborous

    In his defense the BBC did hold copies from elsewhere those these contained cuts, Levine's print was complete and returned it in time for the BBC 2 screenings.

    @edstradling ensure the resolution you upload to conforms to 720p or 1080p/i standards, otherwise youtube will downscale your content to the next-highest output. Also be wary of uploading with third-party software to youtube, as to boost upload speeds some software of this variety will downsize quality and resolution.

    Whilst it would be nice to see some more stories recovered, the vast majority of them have been destroyed by various television companies, sad fact but it's true.

  • @scullyluster
    @scullyluster 12 лет назад

    @edstradling You can just upload a second version they won't mind. It's best to use an HD version (if you have one). If you don't then just upscale a Standard Def to HD first and at least youtube won't automatically reduce the quality.

    Seems a bit silly to me...watching one episode from one serial, and part of another episode from another serial. Furthermore, considering how many copies were shown worldwide, why has it been so difficult to retrieve them? It's ridiculous to consider 20, 25, 30 copies in places like Jamaica or Australia, and no one's found them? I could be wrong, but I don't believe the BBC is serious about finding them.

    I don't intend to get into an argument and I hope I'm not sounding rude at all, I'm sorry if I have. Why would Levine have a copy of MOE in colour and then let Stuart Humphryes spend a year and a half colourising episode 1 again! (I saw Levine's face when he met Stuart, he was completely overjoyed!!)

    Here is an idea for a one-off Doctor Who special. I have just the opening credits so far, but it looks good.
    Watch "Dr Rice - that's who! Condi as Doctor Who. (High Quality)"
    watch?v=w3ZeW95ypbc
    Can the Doctor sex-change during a regeneration? Why not?
