Hey there! I’m at minute 5:31 & I needed to comment this. Please, please take care of yourself & pay special attention to this “workaholic” mindset. This “work while they sleep” or “working everyday without a day off” can compound to a rough burnout down the road. Both the mindset & the burnout are common among entrepreneurs who are fed this type of ideas. I’ve witnessed this more than I wish I had. Just please take care & take time off. Sending all the love & wishing all the luck.
Oh thank you ❤️ Such a kind message, and you are right, it is so important to take time for ourselves too. I do forget that sometimes. I have always been like this to be honest with you, so I am very grateful to have had my kids - time spent with them helps me switch my brain off and concentrate on other important things like paw patrol and snacks 😉
Super helpful video. I'm literally taking the first steps into polymer clay with a goal of selling items further down the line. I'm giving myself the rest of 2024 to familiarise myself with clay. I'm hoping to do jewellery, but who knows. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
My pleasure! Oh that’s exciting! I think spending the time to work with clay is such an important step. It also gives you a chance to experiment and work out your personal style. Good luck! We’re only an email or DM away if you need to bounce any polymer clay/business ideas off us 😊
Thank you 🥰🥰 it has been a tough year for all small businesses, but I am so lucky to do what I love and the extra hustle to keep things going is worth it! ❤️
Fantastic video, you have given me so much food for thought.💗 PS love your shop, I had the pleasure of meeting your mum when I bought my trinket dish cutter and silk screen which I love, thank you.😃
This is such an amazing video! Imposter syndrome is huge for me. I never feel like I do enough or have achieved enough. But in reality, I do all the book keeping and accounting for my husband's LLC, I have one Etsy shop over 10 years old, and another about 5 years old. Social media is my biggest hold up. Just thinking about it is overwhelming and puts me in freeze mode. I am going to do a 30 day challenge to try and get over it and get into some good habits. Thank you for posting this. I love it when I get a notification for My Clay Co. Your posts are always positive, creative, and encouraging. You inspire my to take a breath and put myself out there 🥰
Oh such a lovely comment! Thank you 🥹 Imposter syndrome is such a funny phenomenon, because we’re riddled with all this self doubt and yet we’re already doing the things we doubt we can do 🙈 My biggest tip with your social media challenge is try and build your filming or picture taking into a task you are already doing, so you’re not having to find lots of extra time. It is so surprising what people find interesting, even bookkeeping can be if you put the right spin on it!
Thank you so much for this video…I currently own a food truck but would love to get into making polymer clay earrings, your business advice is motivating…love your positivity
Thank you! 🥰 Oh cool, a food truck! I know that would be hard work, but it as fun as it looks? Hopefully you find some useful tips in all our polymer clay tutorials! 😊
@@myclayco It is fun, but does slow down during the winter so I’m trying clay because I love how versatile it is! I love all your videos and get so much inspiration from them! Love the girl power of your company!!
Thank you so much for this video! There is a lot to think about! 😅 I definitely can relate to “imposter syndrome “ but I realize it’s not just me so I’m working on letting that go! You’re awesome! 💖
My pleasure! ❤️ yes, that cheeky imposter syndrome and self doubt seems to creep up on a lot of us! I have found talking to other small business owners about it so helpful, it is comforting to know that we are not alone! ❤️❤️
Thank you! We have cutter sizes ranging from a tiny 6mm up to about 10cm. When you cut pieces you normally lose about 1/2 a mm around the edge so a 6mm cutter will likely produce a 5.5mm piece 😊
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing information. I'm sitting on the fence about my creative business and you've given me a lovely bigger picture. Motivated Me. Yay. 💜💜💜
Loved this video. Very inspiring and reassuring at the same time. Would it be possible for you to post some links for some of the services you use such as the bookkeeping, marketing, branding, emails etc please. Thank you. Keep doing what you do! Love the posts and the emails! ❤
Just letting you know that I've popped a few of those links in the video description - if there are any I'm missing that you'd like just let me know :)
This video was great. It’s hard to want to start my business and not be at your level. One question-what do you mean in regards to reconciling your transactions? I’m in America so I may have missed the right verbiage meaning. 😂 All the bookkeeping seems so daunting and could be enough to deter me all together. Math just isn’t it for me. I’m the creative side. 😅
You honestly just have to start and you will work it out as you go 😊 There are so many supportive people out there that will help guide you. With reconciling the transactions I basically just mean checking what’s gone out and marrying it up with a receipt or something, and making sure the description and category is all correct. Bookkeeping seems so daunting to begin with but honestly within a month you’ll be a pro and your accountant can always help with anything out of the ordinary! 😊
@@myclayco Oh… one more question. Did you start as a DBA first or get an LLC? I’m stuck in figuring out how to start that part. Eventually I’d like to be big enough for an LLC with different sub businesses.
I use Quickbooks for my husbands mobile mechanics business, and found an accountant on Etsy who makes amazing spreadsheets geared towards etsy, shopify and other selling platforms that make it so much easier to track everything!
Sorry, I missed this reply! Our terminology is a little different in Australia, but I started as a sole trader trading as MyClayCo (Which I'm pretty sure is the same as DBA). It wasn't until last year that I switched to a company (which I think is an LLC) after advice from my accountant :) Yes! I love that you are thinking big! Go for it, there is no limit!
I get you. I was in the same boat until I discovered Reputation House. They helped a friend's fitness studio get positive reviews and online mentions really smoothly.
It can be overwhelming! I’ve found the most important thing is great customer service and communication. If you are upfront and honest with your customers, and keep them updated, they generally won’t feel the need to put in a complaint/bad review elsewhere because they know they are being listened to. Also, if someone gives you great feedback, don’t be shy to ask them to leave a review, or ask if you can share their comments on your socials/website. These are just a couple of simple things that may help ☺️
About $1500. The 3d printer cost about $1000 (I bought the unassembled kit because it was cheaper and it forced me to learn all the parts 😊). The rest was spent on business registrations, basic packaging and some website fees (I built it myself in shopify to save money upfront). From there I just reinvested some of the profits and kept adding products 😊
