The first female Starfleet captain ever seen wasn't even Janeway. It was an unnamed woman played by Madge Sinclair in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (seen in command of the USS Saratoga). Chronologically in-universe it was Erika Hernandez.
Forget the canon. JJ Abrams showed that there are many different Star Trek universes that can work and satisfy (and disappoint) on many different levels. Forget the old Treks and take this one on its own terms. If it has good story and characters then don't quibble over details from other shows. And if it sucks ... Well then.
I am a bit late to the discussion but ruclips.net/video/IcDjnYxzfss/видео.html that about sums it up for me. I like Discovery and does it really matter what timeline it is in? I look at it this way some things from Discovery happend in prime timeline some didn't.
They're all so proud of themselves. She so happy to be a black woman on Star Trek, She's acting like she's the first one. Message from Nichelle Nichols: "BITCH PLEASE😒"
I'm not even a Trekkie, and I am looking forward to this. Michelle Yeoh, Sonequa Martin-Green, James Frain, and Anthony Rapp from the original Rent! I'm in!!!
Same. I've seen a little bit of TOS, TNG, and Voyager, but the only show I could watch in its entirety was DS9, but it was the Abrams movies that pulled me in. I'm excited for this show. I like how it has a dark, serious story like DS9.
I am going to answer this but I hope you will take it in a spirit of kindness and love and not as an attack. As a white male (I’m assuming from your picture), you are inherently entitled to things that people of color are not. My white father recognized that because his wife and three sons did not have an ease of access that he had. That being said, having a show tell the perspective of a black woman when so many shows in the past quite simply have not is important. I understand why you don’t understand that it’s important because quite frankly 95% of television shows that have ever been made are told from the perspective of someone who looks a lot like you. They are making it about color because they are proud to see themselves being represented l. I hope this helps you understand things a bit better.
0:10 already you got the girl in the middle just being a "yes" girl. Either knowing absolutely nothing or just falling under camera shock. The bald guy agreeing and MBE realizing his mistake 2 seconds later...mbe just going with the flow. And you got the star trek nerd in the back left who automatically smells bullshit and doesn't know how to call it, so he's a bit hesitant in his response. Then the walking dead girl in the left figures it out the same as nerdboy, but she's a second later on the uptake. And the others r just completely stone faced lol.
Sooo... if this lady is the adoptive daughter of Sarek... did she knew about Seibok? Also: "Made by Fans... Written by Fans"... somehow I doubt it, according to all the stuff (pictures, trailer, interviews) we've seen so far.
Seibok was from the first wife of Sarek. Spock was born of Second Wife Amanda. He adopted this lady while raising Spock. If you would have paid attention, this show starts 10 years before Kirk and Spock and the USS Enterprise.
This show is coming out of CBS, who owns the copyright. It is the Fan based shows, fan made on internet that cannot use Enterprise or the name Federation, due to copyright laws. Get it straight, the show is made on Paramount studios for CBS. So it can say FERDERATION AND STARFLEET. Get with it and get educated on the world and Star Trek.
Fuck a prequel , why cant the show about the future just move forward ??? Did we not learn anything from Scott Bakula's failed edition ??? Im so not watching this shit !
We all know you're watching this, so drop the act. And the prequel is gonne be interesting, we'll see how certain things we know from the original series started out and developed over time. I can't wait to find more about Spock his dad. If the show goes on long enough we might even see younger versions of the characters we know. How is that not exciting? Party pooper.
Ahahaha , Im so not a party pooper ...and yes I'm full of shit when i say I'm not watching but you never answered my query ? Why cant the franchise give us something after voyager , maybe even with an ensemble cast from multiple shows ?
Political correctness on tv makes shows so boring. A young black woman as captain? Not very believable. Do they know who likes Star Trek? Its young, mostly white nerds.
Enterprise failed because it didn’t proceed historically. By learning about the galaxy as the Spanish explorers did about the western hemisphere by finding out that what was over the next mountain. was usually another mountain.
Just saw the first episode. The Asian female lead is okay, the black female captain just made me realize there are no TV programming remaining for males. The lead black female talks and sounds so stupid. I guess her script had to be dumbed down as her words were easier to reach and pronounce, but her poor pronunciation with even simple words makes you wonder how could such a person lead a star fleet? Surely not the brightest. Any lackluster male actor would of done a much better job that majority of audience base (hint male viewers) that watch these sci-fi shows would actually enjoy watching the show, then a feminine personality try to act uber masculine and smart..
I wonder what jason isaacs was thinking this whole time!! haha
I loved watching star trek discovery and I hope that there will be a season 3.
We love Star Trek, this Discovery twist is fantastic.
Best Star Trek Series ever
WOW, the interviewer sure knows his Star Trek doesn't he?

Wait for a minute. Ben Sisko wasn't a captain when DS9 started, he was a commander.
I love how the host wants to have a FIRST but is too stupid to not have researched Captain Janeway....

No, Roddenberry was wedded to the science fiction universes of the ‘50s.

the series is soooooooooooooooooooo good! am hooked!!!

Johnathan Williams hahahah
The cast is being so careful.
So excited for this! What a stellar cast.
Excited.

This is gonne be so good. So excited :)
Tilly is so freaking cute....
You know what? I would have loved to see Kirsten Dunst casted for Kayla Detmer.. Congrats to Emily Coutts, good job too
Minus points to Kevin Frazier for not knowing who Captain Janeway but total bonus points for the cast to know their shit and correct him!
In voyage Home right at the beginning there is a starship that gets its power drained from the Probe, that ship is commanded by a black woman
My god, that's the worst parade of fashion sense I've ever seen in my life.
I'm so excited about this show
They are very certain of themselves !
Disappointing that the interviewer evidently failed to do his research and also neglected to engage Latif and Wiseman.
The fateful voyage of the Titanic is more enjoyable.
I don’t understand why they can’t use their own accents.
I look forward to the show. . . Live Long and Enjoy!!!
Why do some people always have to focus on color?

Its a great show I agree with you
BOMB!!!!!
Can not wait!!!!

Let's all just watch the show first before we comment.
Will Jonathan Archer-Scott Bakul return on an episode?
Sooo... if this lady is the adoptive daughter of Sarek... did she knew about Seibok?

Fans who are also in the film industry. They watched the original, just as you did.
Benjamin Schäfer-Schmidt Theres no spirit of Star Trek in discovery

It's made for 2017... that's why it's taking place in the past.
this feels like a glorious train wreck
#notmytrek
1:29 ugh, what cringe

Have you seen them lately ? They all got old and fat and bald like they rest of us . LOL
Political correctness on tv makes shows so boring. A young black woman as captain? Not very believable. Do they know who likes Star Trek? Its young, mostly white nerds.
the show sucks. rather see a next next gen star trek
This show will fail worse then Enterprise
ENT was actually really good, though. (IMO)
Enterprise failed because it didn’t proceed historically. By learning about the galaxy as the Spanish explorers did about the western hemisphere by finding out that what was over the next mountain. was usually another mountain.
Actually its doing better.
you were so wrong
black lesbian trans handicape what other pc crap can they fit in
Geordi La Forge was black and blind so that was kind of SJW
