I am so glad you brought the subject of allergies. My friend almost died 10years ago because of this. She had used the same colour for many years, however they changed the formula. She was in intesive care for 1 month, she was in a coma for 2 weeks. Since then she has embrassed her white.

Crystal, I am a retired cosmetologist. I was a stylist for 27 years, and I've been retired now for 15 years. However, I love to watch other stylist work, you being one of them. I'd like to comment on your subject of allergic reactions to hair color. So, when I was in school, I was taught that, when you are giving a color application to a client that has never had one, it is MANDATORY to test a small space of hair, typically in the nape area, to MAKE SURE that your client is NOT going to have a reaction, and if they WILL have a reaction. But, I feel like as time has passed, stylist have become so confident in their work, that they don't feel the need to test first. The same applies to relaxers, do a test spot, the same for perms do a test spot. I hope that this has been helpful in your chemical processing procedures. Love your channel. Love your knowledge that you share. Love your personality!😊

I actually found out recently that I am allergic to braiding hair with red dye. I ended up having an allergic reaction twice! The first time it happened, I wasn't sure if it was the hair or not but I ended up cutting the braiding hair out after one day and wasted $200-$300! The second time I had a braided hairstyle again with some red braiding hair and it had been in for about a month. So I just happened to get sick one day and the dr. prescribed some antibiotics that caused me to hv an allergic reaction. My face, lips, hands, and eyelids started swelling badly and I ended up at the emergency room! As they begin to treat me, everything calmed down and I thought I was about to go home, but then my scalp started to itch and burn like crazy! We could not figure out what was happening at first so they gave me more meds ... The itch got worse and it literally felt like a demonic itch and burn from hell! My scalp felt like something was jumping all over with needles. I sat there and began to pray (like for real). I asked God to show me what the issue was! Y'all he reminded me of what happened a few yrs ago with the red braiding hair. I buzzed the nurse to come back to my room and told her I needed to take my braids out cause the hair was causing another reaction! She brought me scissors and I finally got it all out after my friend came to help me! I washed my head with some anti-itch shampoo again but it was still irritated after I got home. They ended up giving me an epi pen prescription for use at home if it happens again. But I have NOT had any braids since then (May 2022) This girl is done, cause I don't know what else I'm allergic to now!

Washing your hair after getting your braid service helps a great deal. If you do decide to try braids again, once you get home wash your hair and braids very well and see if that helps. I do it every time because I had the itching after getting braided myself

If you don't want to color your hair anymore you have to use this supplement catalase that will allow your natural color of hair grow back because it prevents the hydrogen peroxide from bleaching your hair and it's pretty cool seeing your own hair color return.

I have severe allergic reaction to perms. I had to go natural 20 years ago because I had massive sore on my ears and head. I saw a dermatologist who told me I was having a allergic reaction to the fumes because of the chemical reaction in the perm. The perm didn’t have to touch my ears or face. I had been getting perms for years. He treated me for chemical burns.

Hi Crystal what I have learned that most of the reactions to color is usually the PPD that’s in most color not always this but most times it’s that. I currently use a PPD color line. With new clients wanting color I definitely do a patch test before scheduling a color appointment.

If u look at the instructions in the box, is says to do this pre test.
Sometimes it’s the manufacturer making slight changes their formula that we don’t know about.

Ok so I tried another brand of color and the same thing happened but this time I ended up in the emergency room unable to breathe. I was given steroids injections and a course to take. I found out it was PPD. I'm also allergic to black color even in some clothes. I now only use the Ion colors that is free of the PPD. That was the worst experience of my life.

I'm not a stylist, but I've always been told, when I used to color my hair, to do an allergy test by placing a little of the mixed color on the sensitive inside of part of the arm and wait 10-minutes. I've read this on some of the boxes of the colors I've used as well.

    • @Tee19691
      @Tee19691 7 месяцев назад

10 min. is to short of a wait. Allergist office patch test has you waiting 1 - 2 hrs. before they let you leave, then you have to wait until 3 - 4 days afterwards to make sure there is no delayed reaction.
Have an allergist skin test you for PPD & Parabens.

You should always carry diphenhydramine(Benadryl) with you. If you ever suspect an allergic reaction take 1 or 2 right away. It won't hurt you, but might make you tired. It will help with a allergic reaction, especially if it's an anaphylactic(your tongue and throat swelling) reaction. Even if you are going to the hospital anyway. It gets the process to stop the swelling or reaction started sooner. If the swelling gets so bad, so fast that your throat or tongue completely blocks your airway, you only have minutes before your life is in danger. I have been a nurse for 26 years and I have a highly sensitive child. If you are very prone to reactions you might get an "epi pen" from your doctor that you can carry with you at all times in case you have a bad reaction. Examples are people that are allergic to bees or nuts. They would probably be given an epi pen to carry from the doctor. Those pens are just a medication to stop swelling from an allergic reaction. The pens contain a stronger medication than diphenhydramine and it works very quickly, because it is injected instead of swallowed.

I had a reaction on my arm from a henna tattoo that I got on a beach a few years back.. because I had a reaction to permanent black hair dye (PPD) I knew once my arm started swelling that the black henna has PPD in it…further research proved me right!! Side note: The tattoo burned my arm so bad…it scarred my arm for a few years. I had a permanent a henna tattoo…CRAZY😢

I knew a lady something similar happened to her. This was easily 30 years ago. I knew her from Church and I hadn’t seen her for a couple of weeks.
When she comes again, her face and head were still swollen and lumpy. She had dyed her hair, and it took 2 weeks for the severe part of her allergic reaction to calm down enough so she could go out in public. The doctors had a really hard time getting it under control. The punch line, it had happened to her before! I suggested that she really needed to never ever dye her head ever again! Oh my heck!

But he did it again and same result. years later he says he forgot about previous experience and tried the rinse again. this time it was worse. It really doesn't just happen one day. We are exposed to different things that we are allergic to. initially the releases antihistamines and the reaction is very mild. As exposure continues over the years the symptoms are more severe.

🫣I’m cringing as she place the relaxer directly on the clients scalp. Relaxer should never be put directly on the scalp. My mom was taught to only put it on the hair, close to the scalp. The relaxer will eventually expand and move closer to the scalp. When I was relaxed ages ago, I let a professional stylist relax my hair once and never again. They don’t want to take the time to protect the largest organ of our body, the scalp, by basing it. I don’t know if she based the clients entire scalp or not but, people protect your scalp by basing in its entirety. And be wise and do your research concerning these products.

Yup I’m that person who can’t be near shellfish at all, I’m highly allergic and will breakout and my throat will react right away. I can’t go to a lot of restaurants sadly

What about the product Biotin? When I use that product my hair seems to be fuller.

Your answer about diameter and density was wrong! It's the other way around! The diameter of the hair is the actual thickness of each strand, hence dia-meter. Density means fullness/coverage....meaning the amount of hairs you have! You can have both high density and thick diameter hair at the same time for example, which is rare but can happen! You can go from low to medium to high and both diameter and density. For example, I have medium density and a thick diameter of each hair strand.

I'm natural and for some reason I hate shampooing my hair, and when I do it takes about 2 days for it to get the way I want it

PPD I think also has something to do with the tuberculosis skin test and some people can't have that done, must get chest xray. I'm allergic to it and I think it has something to do with allergy to eggs.
