  • Fiat likes to make really unique vehicles. The 500 Trekking brings AWD small SUV adventure use to the Fiat lineup. Under the hood is a 1.3 turbocharged inline-4 producing 177HP & mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The exterior of the 500 Trekking is unmistakable Fiat with optional wheels and bright Orange paint. On the inside you will be surprised just how much room there is for you and your passengers. I’ve owned a 2017 500X since July of that year and the steering wheel was thicker, different engine, along with actual leather pockets on the back of the front seats. As far as reliability is concerned I went through a tire and an oil change in those 3 years. It has been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. It’s really good in the snow almost better than some Jeep’s I’ve driven. Also, those seats have so much leather on them and the amount of leather on that door pocket is the most I’ve seen in a car ever.

Troy Burtwell explain why there are many 90s Fiat pandas still running in Italy with over 100k miles. Fiats are very dependable, the engines are pretty good. It’s just the electricals that can be a bit temperamental. The engines are fine.

Fiat are reliable...go to Italy where they are driving old fiats from 70s And 80s, all beaten up but they run...My Lancia Thesis jtd is an awesome diesel 16 years old...And still blows New 2.0tdi

@@brando2066 Not true, just ask early Hyundai Veloster or Jeep Renegade owners, it'll be in the dealership guaranteed. Sometimes the trim matters though, like VW owners are used to having leaking sunroofs, but if you don't get one it can't leak. Renegade owners are used to AWD electronics glitches, but if you go FWD it can't break.

@@christopher-gardner You can't say "Fiat engines" because Fiat has such a huge variety of engines. The 2.4L Tigershark sucks, but the 1.4T multiair is one of the most reliable engines on the planet and won't ever foul up since its not direct injection, and its only problem is high oil usage if driven a lot at high RPMs.

    But he said to me
Our Fiat are more reliable than even honda car.
Last year his Honda was break down in Las Vegas due to any sensor in Jan 2020 his Mini Cooper got 2 sensors changed due to car not starting and due to acceleration problem.

Excellent review- honest, fair and thorough and done with no preconceived notions or prejudgement which is as it should be and unlike some of the comments below. I've watched several of your reviews and was pleasantly surprised at the breadth and depth of your knowledge and attention to detail- your Mustang GT PP2 vs. Bullitt is a must see for anyone considering a 'stang GT. Finally subscribed yesterday.
Been driving (legally) for 50 years and getting my hands dirty and greasy before that- a Briggs & Stratton running on nitromethane (model airplane fuel actually) is something to see. Over that time the quality of mainstream automotive journalism has really declined imho ... I wonder if some of these people actually like cars. You're one of the bright spots- keep up the good work!

I'm looking at this exact car, but a 2016. Would really love to own it because #1 I love orange. #2 I sold my orange commuter about 2 yrs ago and I miss it. #3 My grandpa owned 2 different fiats in the 40s and 50s in San Fran. #4 I need an AWD for the snow in Utah. #5 My Honda Pilot is the bomb, but this would be my baby. #6 I'm almost 50 and still having a mid-life crisis! #7 I studied flute in Italy and fell in love with the country. So bottom line... I need to own this Fiat!! I only wish it had crossbars and 2 cute dual mufflers on the backside.

I had an Abarth from 2013-18 and put 58K on it, broke the shifter cable and it had to be towed. Once a year, in the summer, it would go into limpmode and I would get home, open the hood, let it cool down for about an hour and take it back out and full boost, the CEL would go away after 3 cycles, I chalked it up as being quirky Italian car. I had lots of bolt ons and didn't beat the hell out of but once a year on the Tail of the Dragon. I always looked back at this car everytime I parked it, enjoyed my time with it. It had some cheap parts like the steering column cover, replaced twice, cheap as hell.

The new engine choice on the 2020 model is nice but I do agree with you Raiti for the price I would consider the 2020 fiat 500x sport instead. Some of the zonks given are solved with full color exterior body panels with paddle shifters on steering wheel and some alcantara accents within the interior and better suspension upgraded with a nice exhaust pipe. Hey raiti if possible can you review the 2020 fait 500x sport for a re-review of this car. I'm sure those zonks will but much lower 😁

I would agree, I own a 2016 fiat 500x trekking, it’s been a uphill battle with some repairs but I still love the car. Hopefully the newer models fix some of the random issues I had.

Fiat is really old brand but they having tough time to be in the US market. Yes parts can be an issue but logically German keeps you car in service for long time as well (parts unavailability).
If I have to neglect this brand then will consider Dodge and Chrysler as well. But I have also seen people driving these cars running 200K or more. All maintenance game. It all depends on your taste and pocket. If you keep the service up and running then non of the band will create any issue.

Not a big fan of Fiat's body style, but at least it's part of FCA or Stellantis as it was renamed.

What's funny is Fiat makes the most money in total for FCA. Yet they really just dont do well in America. Apparently it's also reliable in Europe just not here. Idk if that's true. I will never get a FCA product. I also someone drive one of those smaller fiats with a straight pipe lol.
