Love *jklux* the way you show it! You really focus on showing off the bag. I don't think any other RUclipsr can show off bags in as much detail as you.
I think the resentment by the public is that for years we felt paying designer prices was worth it because of the quality of the materials. However, several leather experts have broken down the cost of the materials and labor and now we feel duped…what were we really paying for?
For the name and to make these billion dollars companies to get richer. And to feel like we own something super expensive and that makes us a bit better than those who don't have it. Like being rich because I own a name brand. It's crazy how our mind sets have become so comsumption driven.
Exactly! This is why I buy from small leather shops. Good leather quality for waaaay less money And honestly, if both a 200€ bag or a 15000€ bag last 10 years then there is no difference in quality but only in price.
I agree with you 100%. Real luxury to me is having your house paid off ,the cars paid off and you don’t owe anyone anything. That to me is luxury and security. I am 69 years old and I saved my money when I was young and didn’t spend it on lavish things.😊
@carsenlifeafter60carlsen: I totally agree with you. I'm also around your age and find myself very fortunate not being a slave to debt or labels. You can't eat a Birken, drive a Birken or pay your mortgage with a Birken. The marketing gimmick for these high end bags is brilliant because it touches on the insecurities of women wanting to be something they are not. I don't want to hear that it's an investment. Oh really? If the bottom falls out, your leather "sack" isn't going to save the day.
@@sagisli "The marketing gimmick for these high end bags is brilliant because it touches on the insecurities of women wanting to be something they are not." Girl, you hit the nail on the head. And on the other side fo the coin, it's for people who try to prove they are better than you because of the things they have. It's all material things, it means nothing.
The timing of this video is perfect! I was wearing my *jklux* LV bag yesterday and the sales assistant I worked with commented that my color bag reminded her of a luxury bag she bought occasionally, haha
Pro-tip: Go to a crafts man that makes shoes and/or bags and let him copy a bag you really like, but of which you don't want to support the brand. They will make you a very similar, very high-quality bag, and my grandpa (who is a shoe maker) said he would charge 100-200€. That for an ethical bag that lasts you a lifetime? That sounds like a perfect deal in my ears
@@pistachio_cream-p3o Toronto has bag makers doing commissions for those who can’t afford luxury names bags. There’s some jewellers who can copy and tweak a brand name jewelry on your style which is good and you know where your money goes too.
I love the design, but I don't have the budget. So I bought the *jklux* bag. Made from high quality legal snakeskin made by local Indonesian artists. From now on I never want to buy any luxury goods.
Yes, I 100% agree. I truly wish I did not get pressured into getting my engagement ring from Tiffanys! I wish we just went to a small, reputable jeweler and used the rest for a down payment on a home.
@SylviaStarbucks and you can even have a cubic zirconia if you'd like. Or even (no ring) if you two are okay with it. I'm sincere. A house is more important. I'll never forget, . . one of my community college teachers was sharing with us in the class, . . one day he mentioned his wife to us and shared a bit. He said when they got engaged she told him she doesn't need a ring, because she felt it's just a waste of money. I'm sure she knew other things were more important financially. The class was Accounting too.
@@Aristide-d5k Exactly. I do like quality, but buying quality doesn't mean extremely high prices. And quality doesn't need to be with a high luxury logo. There are many shops with amazing leather craftmanship that don't have that famous name. And there are also brands that are well known, have good qualiity and are more afforable.
Look at the dior scandal i don't think luxury bags are made in an ethical way so a good dupe is great as all these companies are greedy and don't care about their employees either way
I purchased my first LV bag when I was 47. I was proud to have worked hard and waited until I could afford it. Three years ago I moved to a more affluent area and noticed so many women were wearing LV bags. Way too many! At that point I realized I didn’t want to look like a Stepford wife. I now purchase bags from companies that are not well known yet. I would rather stand out than blend in. I don’t begrudge those that can afford high end luxury, I just choose to spend my money more wisely these days as I get older.
I agree. I like oddities. Hand made local leather shops, nice funky prints I don't want a bag w designer name all over it ... I dont want to pay that much $ to advertise for them
Bravo! I didn't know Walmart made those. I recently had a landmark birthday and my husband didn't know what to do or buy so he and asked me if I wanted a fancy Channel (yes, he said Channel, not Chanel). Once I stopped laughing, I said no. I'm happy you got your "dupe" bag. Enjoy it and carry it in good health!
I worked for a royal family (endless budget for accessories) and one of the most elegant ladies I know once told me--- "If I love it, I buy it---whether it's $5 or $5000, I find the snobbery against 'dupes' to be ridiculous!"
A high price and a "luxury" brand name do NOT guarantee ethically made and sustainable products. They don't even guarantee good quality that is meant to last anymore. All the scandals involving the luxury industry might be another reason why people think a dupe is good enough.
I do understand where you are coming from, however, us plebs also see double standards. By preaching hurting the environment yet flying around in private jets, hurting the oceans with yachts etc etc etc. I could go on with exploiting humans by hiring nannies from poor countries, dining at establishments that pay their staff crap, bla bla bla. If a person wants to make themselves happy and feel good, who is ANYONE to judge. And really in the end who CARES what anyone else thinks.
@@GreatLakesStacking i would only add to this that the Walmart is the one who is hurting the environment most! But no one dares to tell off the multi billionaire corporations and that is really the double standards.
Very, very well said here. I made a comment exactly about this. Plus it is not truth that your 10 not designers bags are less environmentally friendly or less ethical or more damaging than elites 10 designer bags! Plus often they own 100+ designer bags, while regular person under 10 cheap ones...many people more like 3 cheap ones 😊
@ great point! I never thought of that! Have you seen the closets of the rich ladies filled with bags illuminated by fancy lights? 😂. In my closet I have 4 bags, and they’re not new. I say girls if it makes you feel good to have a dup bag because you can’t afford one that is the same price as a car, GO FOR IT.
@@galiapink6600 excellent point. I believe many are hurting the environment and then placing blame on others. The big corporations packaging their goods in non-friendly ways giving no other option and WE are the problem?
Nothing ethical abt Hermes either. They more or less make people buy stuff they don't need from their stores for months before being even considered for a bag. It's disgraceful.
Literally, pretending that Hermes is somehow more ethical than Walmart is bullshit. And wasn't there a scandal a few months ago where it showed that the bags cost less than 100 dollars to make? They are NOT "in the other league" compared to other bags.
Maybe that's the reason for buying a dupe from Walmart. People don't want to play that silly game dictated by that certain brand. They want to buy a bag. Now. And one they like. Not purchasing stuff for multiple years just to be considered worthy enough to get one bag assigned.
100% Hermes takes the crown for the most unethical company for making ppl jump through hoops just to qualify for a handbag, then giving them a moments notice to make their purchases. I do not know what's worse, that or their customers who are happy to perform like animals in a circus to please Hermes. Even if I had all the money in the world, I would never support Hermes as a business.
@ yes both so why are designer bags so expensive if there not made ethically or with the same cheap material. I have seen gucci dresses selling for $1000 but made out of polyester. Channel selling $750 earrings but it’s gold plated not real gold . Channel not even using gold in there bags anymore but selling it for the same price.
@@katemiller7874 No one thinks Walmart bags are made ethically, it is just a bullshit argument to be like "Oh sure you like the dupes, but they are not ethical" when the real deal she's talking about is just as unethical.
This is another reason why people care less now about designer. People are now very skeptical anything saying it is made ethically and rightly so. Now the focus is usually quality because no companies seem trustworthy about ethical manufacturing.
What you say would totally make sense if Christian Dior hadn’t F’ed up with their sweatshop workers actually making their bags and not artisan craftsmen. That was the shock of the century. They gave luxury houses a terrible name. I never bought counterfeit on principle because the sources were criminal enterprises. But now at 50, I refuse to buy luxury as well because of the scandal with CD and Balenciaga a few years ago. My first LV bag was a graduation gift and I loved my Noe bucket bag. I don’t get that feeling anymore. I don’t feel a pull I don’t feel luxury is exclusive or special anymore.
I agree. Nothing special about it anymore. How does anyone still feel good about spending many times more for something than it's actually worth -- and when there isn't really any exclusivity in it anymore. INVEST your money and watch it grow instead.
I agree. When I travel to South America, and Asia, I love the small leather good and fabric shops that actually have handmade bags by local artisans or the single designer of the brand. Those bags are more one of a kind, and worth the price. Knowing that $2,000+ Dior book tote, was made at $57 worth of material and labor , makes me sick 😖.
The problem is really with LVMH- or Richelieu-owned companies. Once an independent company is bought out, the production costs and quality go down, advertising costs go up, and the price to consumers gets higher. There are a lot of independent companies that make fabulous bags with great (even the same) leather for less cost to consumers. You can find lists of these brands all over the internet. I must say, I have bought into the hype, and I love all my bags, but these days, I’m looking solely at independent companies.
I live in luxury everyday. House is paid for, car is paid for and I have an amazing husband that I travel the world with. Bags, shoes, clothes and jewels are just "extra".
Specially in this economy! After 2020 and the disgrace that year brought to so many of us, I feel like we're just "maybe" starting to get on our feet again, but things keep getting hard financially. The things you mentioned are true luxury nowadays.
Maybe 2 or 3 years ago I watched a documentry where also had been shown how the leather for the hermes bag has been prepared. And believe me, there was nothing ethical about this, although it was happening in france!!! But the poor people (mostly from foreign countries) working in these fabrics didn't have insureance or something like that and when there happened to be and accident it was just their problem!!
Honestly overconsumption is disgusting. I used to buy way too many clothes and now I just look at my wardrobe with overflowing amount of clothes and it looks very messy and full of clutter. This is just money gone down the drain, and I hardly wear all of the pieces.
I agree with that phrase “I’d rather have $1,000 in a twenty dollar bag, than $20 in a two-thousand dollar bag”. I stick to that; I’ve gone vegan leather (instead of Luxury that peels later on; yes I have my SMALL vintage collection put away) I have a beautiful looking vegan Kelly bag. I’m not meant to afford a Birkin, and I won’t go into debt trying to! 😊
" A mans life consistent not in the things that he possesseth." .... You can have EVERYTHING this life has to offer and still be unhappy. True Joy comes from the Lord. We do not have to run after all of these allurements to be content.
I used like like designer bags, but I now rather spend the 💰 to support artisan made bags who really put their love and care into making them, and I know I'm paying them fairly.
Several months ago I purchased a couple of the Walmart Birkin style bags and the bags are all leather and well made, perfect for every day use. I also purchased a couple of Birkin bags back in 2003 when I was invited to put my name on the list and I waited about 2 years to purchase each. I must say, these days I rarely use the authentic Birkin bags I have as they are pretty heavy once you add your “stuff” and without a cross body strap it not as easy to carry. I also note that the bags I purchased from Walmart are not marked so just manufactured in the Birkin style.
I completely agree with you, the genuine Birkin bag weighs so much, and without a shoulder strap, it is not for me anymore. Love the Kelly bag, much more accessible.
I got a 40 Birkin bag in 1995 as a gift for my 18th birthday (I was a huge fan of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg 🥰). Back then, the bag wasn’t hyped at all-it was just a well-made (pricey yes) bag you could walk into the store and buy. My family got it in Lausanne, Switzerland, with no waiting list or drama. Over the years, that bag has been everywhere with me: traveling, working, hauling photography gear, trips to the farmers market, Migros runs, even carrying my dog to the vet. It’s been my everyday go-to for shopping and traveling. Now, 30 years later, it’s still holding up beautifully. Sure, it’s got a few marks from life and experience, but that just adds to its character. I know I was incredibly lucky to have such a special gift, and I realize not everyone would see it the same way if they hadn’t been so spoiled at 18. That said, I think what really matters is the quality of the materials and design-whether it’s a Birkin or any other bag. For me, this one has just stood the test of time and proven itself .. and it’s a cherished piece because it came from my family ❤ I am not sure I would today buy an item from Hermes or any other "big" brand name, there are great quality options and great designers with amazing craftsmanship. Second hand bags are great options as well to me.
@@hitachips Your purchasing experience is how it is described in the book Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster. I think the cost of a Kelly was $4,000 in the '90s.
@@Chickadee_That's interesting! I haven't read Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster, but it sounds like it captures the era well. Back in the '90s, luxury brands were definitely less hyped than they are now.
I have never been one to follow trends. I am content with buying what I like and looks good on me. And that bag does not impress me at all. Even the real thing doesn't.
to each to their own, and as much money as we have, my husband makes a lot of money and together we make 6 figures.. I would not be CAUGHT dead of owning a HERMES BAG simply because I have to show the world my status quo..FOOL are those who spend 5-40K on a PURSE to hold things..and then what? Capitalism, overconsumption, and the war about "look at me" have everyone divided while companies laugh their way into the bank. I am too financially savvy to waste my money on frivolous things. Let's not forget the psychological acrobatics that Hermes makes you do to be "IN THE CLUB" 🤣🤣🤣 I travel and do me! and also...WHO CARES!
@@easygoing6397 I agree that capitalism is not bad- to the extent that it fosters innovation, creates opportunities, and drives economic growth. However, it becomes problematic when it promotes unchecked consumerism, deepens inequality, and manipulates people into chasing material symbols of status. The key is finding balance-valuing experiences, community, and sustainability over frivolous consumption driven by corporate profit motives.
And if you have started to watch Tanner learhersteins videos where he takes apart the designer bags and shares the actual cost of materials and production …. The sales price is NO comparison.
A few years ago I saw 7 women carrying the same LV bag in the span of a 30 minute walk (including 3 girls hanging out together) and since then I have a trick- Imagine tomorrow you go downtown and every second woman is wearing the luxury item you dream of - bag, shoes, sunglasses, doesn't matter. Do you still love that idem due to the beauty, craftsmanship and function? Or now that everyone has it it's a bit meh.. If the latter - then maybe you don't even like the item but just it's exclusivity. Save yourself the money!
My favorite bag is the JPG/Eastwest Birken. I absolutely LOVE ❤ that bag and would buy 20 even if a million people had one because I love the design and functionality. Plus my bag would be an ancient color few or no one has.

There is something delicious about cheap anchor stores selling their version of these overhyped pretentious, purses. It’s just a purse. Anyone that throws that kind of money at a piece of leather to hold stuff is a bigger joke, than the people that want that *look*. And truly, it’s not even a great design. As someone already commented, it’s better to have your house paid for and some money in the bank for those rainy days, even if you carry a simple leather bag. One thing for sure, you won’t get targeted by thieves! Great topic! Thank you for bringing it up.
This! You have to be careful what you carry and where you carry it. I once saw an elderly lady loading Gucci luggage into the trunk of her car. That's a recipe for disaster.
Personally, I don't enjoy designer dupes because it feels inauthentic, like I'm trying to be someone I'm not. I'd rather find a smaller artisan brand than authentic designer or dupes. I'm also not against dupes in general. I want everyone to be happy with their personal choices and also with themselves. ❤
If birkin costed about 900 dollars that would be fair 😂 its way too much for that ..that bag was misused and abused by Jane Birkin she would stuff her bag up with all short of things like her underwear idk Totally hippie life and that now is seen as a professional bag or whatever People like being told what is cool cause they won't have the responsibility of choosing for themselves
@@Kleillaa Actually she didn't, because she ended up HATING the bag and found it unusable for what she wanted. She didn't wear Birkin and she actually tried to get her name removed from the brand.
@@lulupomegranate True, she went back to her regular hand basket, which I think looked cooler than the Birkin bag anyway. It’s a very clunky, impractical bag imo.
Not birkin, but dior for instance was shown to use slave labor, plus i had chanel sunglasses that broke afer 2 weeks, so i am not really buying luxut anymore
Sorry but to bring ethics into this is a little hypocritical. Dior just recently had a big scandal about illegal Chinese immigrants manufacturing Dior bags for 56 dollar that were sold for 2700 dollars. Is that quality? Is it ethical? Designer brands seem to have the same ethical practices than the counterfeit market. Also, what you didn’t mention is, that dupes became so good, that they are of nearly same quality and that’s one reason fakes became so popular today. And they sell it for a fair price, instead of these designer brands who charge you up to 20 x the actual costs of a bag. I don’t buy designer and I don’t buy dupes. I avoid everything that has a label on it because I think the fashion industry is just ridiculous.
Im concidering buying a Hermes bag kit from Babylon Leather. How fun to be able say that i have sewn the bag myself😃 From the reviews and videos ive watched it seems like they use good quality leather and materials. Im exited to start this crafts project, and learn how the Hermes bags are sewn. And i feel like even though it will be a dupe, i can carry it with pride knowing that i put hours of work into sewing it.
Good idea. So you might have a different product and story to share. Hi friend. I'm running a small leather craft business. Can make bags, moneybags, shoes and boots. Please check my Instagram account @hundraleathercraft I appreciate your support and visit. Thank you. May God bless you. Wishing you a very blessed beautiful and joyful HAPPY NEW YEAR 💐🌨️🌨️🎄🎄
I used to collect 2nd hand designer items and refurbish them for a profit or to keep and use myself. It is a way tfeel like I'm taking a creative approach and breathing new life into decades old items that were most likely headed to the landfill or to turn into moth food in someone's attic.
It must be noted that all high-end designer labels doesn't guarantee they are ethically produced without animal cruelty or labour exploitation. Personally I prefer a well-crafted bag over a over-priced designer bag.
Ironic that Jane Birken’s intended design of the bag was for moms to use as a carry all tote. She also asked Hermes in 2015 to rename the crocodile Birken after learning about animal abuse in the production process.
Im not at all concerned about luxury because I take care of my cheap things and they last me for decades. I cannot justify paying thousands on bags, shoes, and clothes when for me that money can be used for better things or better investments that will allow me to retire earlier. My cheap but unique items have gotten me compliments for years because I know how to style my finds so they look expensive. In the end, good quality or cheap quality, it’s just stuff.
Anna , let's be honest. Those of us that have purchased real items all along are a bit salty now. I still don't do replicas. I'd rather just get what I can afford. Everything these days is watered down including the fashion industry, unfortunately.
Hi Anna, Did you know that luxury brands-at least in Italy-contract smaller companies to produce their bags? These companies often exploit Chinese workers who live in terrible conditions. (yes, in Italy)!!! . In one way or another, it's the same issue..
I purchased a rabbit fur sweater for $2 dollars at a secondhand shop recently and I couldn’t feel more luxurious. I love luxury within my means and grateful to stay warm with natural fiber that stays out of landfills
The luxury bags are also not free of exploitation and unethical practices. I think it's rather hypocritical to all of a sudden worry about the ethics of products when it's a dupe but no one bats an eyelash when unethical practices are related to luxury brands. We can't hold double standards.
I think sustainability is a complex issue, whether it’s Hermes or Walmart. For me, it often comes down to the design I love and whether I know I’ll wear something long enough to make it worthwhile. Personally, I could never bring myself to carry a real Birkin or Kelly bag, as I’d constantly worry about damaging it. Recently, I sold many of my luxury bags because I found myself gravitating towards less well-known brands instead. Over time, I’ve grown disillusioned with the luxury industry as a whole. These days, I find myself appreciating quality, design, and uniqueness more, often from less mainstream designers. I also really resonate with your shift toward appreciating the smaller, simpler things in life. Once your consciousness is awakened, your focus naturally starts redirecting toward what truly matters. That’s the journey I’m on right now, too. really enjoyed your most recent content about sharing failures too!
I have been a Fossil purse gal for 18 years. Good bags. All of mine are leather. I have a Fossil bag I have owned since 2010. It still looks new. I take care of my stuff. They get cleaned and conditioned all of the time. All in I probably have about 20 Fossil bags.
There is a third option...learn the techniques to make the "authentic" thing yourself. It won't have the label, but it is every bit of the luxury and craftmanship at the most reasonable price these things can actually be.
Am I the only one on the planet who thinks the Birkin bag looks like an elderly "church lady" bag? I don't get the appeal. But getting in and out of my Honda carrying a $78 dupe would make me look and feel as foolish as walking into the gym wearing a Harvard Medical School hoodie.
Midrange brands been duping classic designs forever as a rule not sn exception. Shein did it better even within the bounds of copyright (cuz they're ghettofabulous eastern customer base had *better taste) and now the midbrands will outdo Shein.
@ its practical for daily use if you are super rich. You can put your make up pouch, a small tablet and credit card wallet and cellphone in it. And you go into your office/spa our boutique that you own
I think you've spoken so eloquently on this topic, Anna and it's made me think a bit deeper regarding buying dupes. I absolutely love your videos. Happy Holidays to you 🌼.
I have no problem spending 7,000€ or more on a Birkin bag. However, what annoys me is the expectation that one must first purchase numerous unnecessary items, like accessories, to even have the chance to buy the bag. I dislike feeling manipulated or pressured into buying things I don’t need, just to be deemed “worthy” by the company to own the bag. This is why I find dupes to be a fair alternative.
The most important thing when shopping for anything is to make sure the item is vegan. Making sure no animals were used to make the item. Thats true "Leveling up." God bless all of you and happy new year. Melissa Plessinger
I am someone who will never have enough money to buy luxury bags and I would feel really cheap walking around with a Walmart version of one. The real ones are often pretty but to me a handbag is meant to be used and needs to be functional for everyday life. I buy practical, stylish, and functional leather bags, keep my inventory down to a reasonable number and make sure I take good care of them. I don't worry too much about being robbed. I understand the appeal of the collecting beautiful designer goods but I just can't see amassing great numbers of things which don't get used. In my 60s I'm finding being overly attached to possessions is pointless.
I didn't hear about it so I went to Walmart site but can't find it, surprisingly enough when I entered Birkin, they showed few real pre owned bags for like 10K+, I assume those are from their marketplace. So what do I enter to find their cheap version, I'm curious now.
Anna, thanks for sensibly weighing in on this. I was a single parent professional who neverhad money or time for things like designer bags. Now I'm retired I've had time to look at what's out there and love the design beauty of many of them. I am saving my money to buy vintage & pass to my child. I DON'T buy anything made in China (period) and NEVER go into Walmart--and won'tbe making an exceptionfor these Birkin dupes!
The big picture question you should ask yourself is why do people focus of stuff and people who can buy stuff who may not have souls ? People who look superficially good wearing shiny expensive stuff and pretending good manners when we have forgotten what is truly important and priceless in society. Health, good manners, sincerity, civility, politeness, Integrity, kindness, hard work, resilience, generosity, honesty. Why are people not respected and heralded for skill set that truly matter instead of appearances. What does the jet set bring to the table? Except pompousness and pontification.
The luxury brands are not better when it comes to the environment. Burning their items that don't sell, using cheap labor knowingly. And let's be honest none of these bags are worth the prices people are paying, not even hermes. The markup is to make the owners rich always has been.
I think people who preach about luxury are the most hypocritical. It doesn’t matter if you owe money on your house or you are renting. It doesn’t matter if you owe money or you are a miser and save every penny. The point of life is having experiences. No matter what you choose to spend your money on, as long as you can afford to pay your bills and you don’t have to demean yourself or take from others to afford your lifestyle…you are living luxurious. Enjoy your life and let other people live their own lives. That’s what we all need to understand. We shouldn’t all want the same things in life.
I prefer to buy preloved designer handbags. I also love antiques which were also preloved. I want the artisan skill and superior leathers and woods used. Nothing from China for me.
I recently discovered preloved bags, often not even used for a fraction of the price and would never buy new again. If I could afford a birkin I would buy one, because they are stunning
Jane Birkin designed it on an aeroplane on a napkin and gave the design to the CEO of Hermes. She was huge in France and a partner of Serge Gainsbourg. It is an interesting story.
I once bought some cheap bag I liked not even realizing it was some dupe until a coworker told me and I was really upset because I just liked the thing and wasn't trying to look like someone I'm not. I just don't care for luxury brands to even tell a dupe when I see one. Edit: and even if I became very rich overnight I'd never buy a bag that costs like a car because I wouldn't want to support such ridiculously hight prices 🤷♀️
There are online and in person stores where for a few hundred dollars - 1k you can have a custom and beautiful handmade leather bag made in Italy that surpasses the quality of most designer brands and you can often choose your own colours, hardware etc if you’re able to see past labels. A lot of actually wealthy people will take quality over brand names
9:30 Please give me a break. What exploitation and environmental damage. The same exploitation when buying another bag made in the same factory that doesn't look like a Birkin. It's a myth that some criminal gangs are making counterfeit bags. It's just factories making them. They aren't hidden in some underworld. They are regular professional factories were every other bags are made. I don't care to buy any of these dupes personally. I prefer a bag with shoulder straps.
Imitation is the highest form of flattery. As someone who buys real Birkins and Kellys I don't begrudge anyone who wants to buy the dupes of these bags. The Birkin and Kelly are fabulously, well crafted bags in my opinion. I think the quality is exceptional in the luxury space. They also come with status ( or at least perceived status). So if someone wants to associate themselves with these bags by buying the dupes, I get it.
The status is not "perceived". The bragging rights are in full force and effect. It separates the haves from the have not. However, a birkin dupe from Walmart is just a very sad optic IMO.
I would never spend my money on brand names, I want very good quality and well crafted most brands are made in the same building as poor quality items, I only buy quality not names
It’s really just the idea of not putting luxury first. I’d be more concerned about raising a good family and the least of my worries is where I buy my stuff.
I couldn’t care less about brands and also don’t like replicas. I care about quality though. There are so many beautiful clothes, bags, and shoes in Europe from designers who aren’t world-famous, and the prices are very affordable. I live in the U.S., and I’m often asked where I got certain pieces of my outfit because they look expensive, even though they really aren’t.
i love how you're now tackling consequences such as ethical practices and environmental damage. please keep talking about those to reach more people regarding ethical practices and environmental sustainability
I’ve been to Walmart’s website and cannot find the Birkin dupe. I think they are ghosting me. Can someone tell me how much I need to spend at Walmart before they let me buy one? I think I’ve hit the required dollar amount by now. 😬
If someone can afford a bag its fine, but as an average person and todays economy it just makes more sense to just buy what you can afford. I personally buy and dress for myself, not for trend , classy and elegant is great, but i love to break the rules of that for my own personal style. I really enjoy your channel more now.
Good morning;) really liked the topic today :) as I do most of your content . Just 2 points I wanted to respectfully make . For me personally , I don’t begrudge the wealthy their way of life or choices . What I don’t like is people that have money or appear to have money and flaunt it . The over the top displays of their wealth is appalling. Trying so hard for validation , attention, likes . When , in reality, true wealth doesn’t scream for attention. My second point is that I agree that all the dupes and fast fashion are not ethically made - but what about designers that destroy their past seasons leftovers so that their brand isn’t watered down , trying to maintain aura of exclusivity. This is also unethical. Thank u for all u do ;) have a wonderful day 🎉
Thanks for the video. I choose style and quality, it doesn't matter the brand. In fact, with known brands I feel like I am paying for the name not necessarily quality and uniqueness. Luckily I live in a place where nobody cares about brands, and the people who do or care are not always people we want to mingle with anyway 😊
A high cost does not always amount to high quality and ethical practices during production. Chanel & Dior has proven this and a lot of other luxury brands I’m sure are doing the same to keep profit margins up.
You discuss ethics. Which is valid. However when we see unethical things being done by lux brands, for example Balanciaga or even the rich and famous Sean Combs and Oprah, I think everyday people look at a Walmart mass produced bag as not a big deal. Coming from someone who had a Kazaa and Limewire account in the late 90s. But now digital downloads are everywhere. In 2 years no one is gonna care about dupe purse. Just like we don’t about dupe perfumes.
I have a Chanel lambskin square pearl bag and a Chanel handbag but my lambskin square petal bag I have worn 2 times and I am very careful but somehow still has small scratches on the leather and the gold on the clasp. I don’t know what happened but I paid over $3,000 for it a few years ago and I am upset that it already has scratches. No one notices now but I notice the price I paid for it. I’m saving up to buy another *xbagy* bag now that I won’t be paying full price anymore.
Great video. I'm a new fan of your channel and I love your vibe. Also, I can't see that these two Balenciaga pieces are close enough to the *xbagy* and cute enough so it's good enough for me.
Buying Hermes is also unethical because they are charging way too much for a bag that they probably pay someone pennies to make. With current economic times though, I do believe this channel is out of touch and I will have to unfollow. Most people can't barely afford food and I rent and I live in Canada which is a developed country.
I am hard on bags (and shoes), even when with reasonable use, and I use them until too worn. So, I wouldn't buy a costly utility item. But I do insist on leather, quality, function, and style. If a dupe fills that bill, I'll use it. But I mostly use independent creators on Etsy and have them customize features.
Hello Anna,Happy New Year ❤ may you please tell me your opinion on bottega veneta small andiamo, and murakami Louis Vuitton bags which one are you considering to buy?! Do you think its tacky or classy
I mean you make choices with repercussions when you buy luxury items. Didn’t you see the sweat shops they found in Italy? At least when you buy the Walmart bag you aren’t pretending you bags ARENT made in Chinese sweatshops. When you buy the real thing you’re still supporting sweat shops just making them way, way more profitable.
Hi Ana, I have loved your content already in the early days because you were upfront and didn't shy away from saying unpopular things. You have amazing integrity and I admire how you have tried to self improve yourself and upgrade your content to not only great fashion advise but also to self development. I think you reflected excellently on the trend situation and talked about every aspect of the Walmart bag topic.
I think she's tone deaf on the subject because she clearly can't understand the pressure that social media creates to keep up with the Joneses. If she can acquire a Birkin if she desires it, why can't everybody else be satisfied with cake?
It didn’t. I still buy them. Yes it was a shitty campaign. I think people jumped the gun when they saw the children. My mind thought of shedding light on human trafficking. Everyone else’s mind went the dirty way. No children were hurt or trafficked for thst campaign so it’s a non issue.
luxury brands are the ones that most exploit workers. but a lot of people don't talk about it just to maintain their status with these scholarships. Whoever buys these products is also supporting work similar to slavery!
I’m glad you mentioned “certain” people because honestly, some of us who don’t care about brands, just go to stores to find a good purse or item. I remember when dupes looked exactly as the real. Now, there’s a blurr everywhere that even preachers are preaching about it.
The other element I've always wondered about is "Do you even like the bag?" Or do you like it because it looks like a Chanel, Hermes, etc.? For example, I would not buy this bag at any price because I don't like how it looks when it's open. It doesn't appear to be functional. Thank you so much Anna! I really appreciate your content and have enjoyed watching you grow as in individual.
Labor exploitation is everywhere. Look at Dior being investigated for their subsidiary exploiting workers in Prato. I would rather have a lab created diamond and a real bag leather bag made from a Guatemalan artisan. Affording manufacturers who are transparent about their supply chain is a luxury. It's even more disgusting when a luxury brand turns out 1000% in profit on an item using the same exploitative practices as a fast fashion brand.
Thanks for the breakdown! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
I just don´t get this dupes/counterfeits phenomenon. As a creative, the point about the ethics of dupes and counterfeits is so spot on. Regardless of how much a brand chooses to price an item, someone had to conceptualize it with the immagination, create it from their expertise and turn it into a tangible product. Crazy that any random seller doing dropshipping can copypaste a model that required effort and committment. I also wonder how many influencers promoting "Amazon dupes" actually keep and use the items they endorse, as I suspect they return everything after filming. I wish I could say I don´t judge, but whenever I see someone wearing a dupe I always think: if you need to buy yourself validation, at least go for the original 😂
Luxury brands also have been busted for unethical practices. I have no problem with a dupe if I like the style. I don’t like the Birkin so I am not interested in a dupe of that bag. My days of spending a lot of money on a bag are over.

The variety of textures on this *jklux* bag is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there is something for everyone.
When you showed the transparent *jklux* , my heart screamed, you didn't buy it. This is amazing
Branding now once mass production became a thing and craftsmanship was outsourced to factories on the other side of the continent
Exactly!
Exactly! This is why I buy from small leather shops. Good leather quality for waaaay less money
And honestly, if both a 200€ bag or a 15000€ bag last 10 years then there is no difference in quality but only in price.
100% true. See my comment above.
I agree with you 100%. Real luxury to me is having your house paid off ,the cars paid off and you don’t owe anyone anything. That to me is luxury and security. I am 69 years old and I saved my money when I was young and didn’t spend it on lavish things.😊
That’s def not luxury to me. That’s a given honey

And there are also brands that are well known, have good qualiity and are more afforable.
Look at the dior scandal i don't think luxury bags are made in an ethical way so a good dupe is great as all these companies are greedy and don't care about their employees either way
This is what I was coming here to say!
I totally think that as well. Respect is earned and should be reciprocated.
That's exactly what I knew, too.

I like to blend in now. I got so much attention in my youth from men and women. I certainly don’t need anymore.
This is why I purchase vintage. I don’t want to look like anyone else. I want to be unique ❤
I have a $39 Walmart Chanel dupe and it gets so many compliments. Surprisingly, it is good quality and looks great.
I'm not surprised that it's good quality. 💌
Same! I love it!
Good to you! Most of us live on a budget.
Well if your going to produce a bag for $56 and tell me I should pay $5600 plus for it then I see major issues LVMH
Plus one gets tired of a $10000 bag, just as fast as a $200 bag
And they Do go out of style, regardless of how long they
last. Basically, regardless of what Ana or others say, I think it boils down to snob appeal.
Exactly. We are sick and tired of the BS
Also the material. Exotic animal skins such as crocodiles and leathers
I like the Hermes scarves and belts. I have no interest in their bags which are really quite plain.
Designer bags are not made ethically either.
Your non designer bags also dear don’t fool yourself
@ yes both so why are designer bags so expensive if there not made ethically or with the same cheap material. I have seen gucci dresses selling for $1000 but made out of polyester. Channel selling $750 earrings but it’s gold plated not real gold . Channel not even using gold in there bags anymore but selling it for the same price.
EXACTLY.
And they are ripping off their customers.
And the SA's treat people like trash in the stores.

@EloisaMontesdeOcaTV Indeed. Making memories and not being in debt are true luxury.

Yet overconsumption is done by those who have money.

No damn ostentatious logos? How refreshing!
For me, this one has just stood the test of time and proven itself .. and it’s a cherished piece because it came from my family ❤
I am not sure I would today buy an item from Hermes or any other "big" brand name, there are great quality options and great designers with amazing craftsmanship. Second hand bags are great options as well to me.

Sorry but to bring ethics into this is a little hypocritical. Designer brands seem to have the same ethical practices than the counterfeit market. I appreciate your support and visit.
It looks like a mom bag or grand mom bag.
Renaming it made a difference in animal suffering?
Hi Anna,
Did you know that luxury brands-at least in Italy-contract smaller companies to produce their bags?
And you can choose a colour you like.
U r not d only one. Folks r just paying for clout
Midrange brands been duping classic designs forever as a rule not sn exception. Shein did it better even within the bounds of copyright (cuz they're ghettofabulous eastern customer base had *better taste) and now the midbrands will outdo Shein.
You are not alone....
I also don’t find it to be practical for everyday use. Doesn’t fit over the shoulder. And way to big to be used as an evening bag
Excellent point!
The most important thing when shopping for anything is to make sure the item is vegan. Making sure no animals were used to make the item. Thats true "Leveling up." God bless all of you and happy new year. Melissa Plessinger
Thank you for mentioning this!!! Vegan here!!
I collect to give my daughter too
The big picture question you should ask yourself is why do people focus of stuff and people who can buy stuff who may not have souls ? People who look superficially good wearing shiny expensive stuff and pretending good manners when we have forgotten what is truly important and priceless in society. Health, good manners, sincerity, civility, politeness, Integrity, kindness, hard work, resilience, generosity, honesty. Why are people not respected and heralded for skill set that truly matter instead of appearances. What does the jet set bring to the table? Except pompousness and pontification.
Loved your words
@@SilviaNevesSP thank you
I rather go out with a plastic shopping bag than a counterfeit one! 😆
I’m obsessed with my new *xbagy* bag! Their channel’s styling advice has really inspired my looks!
My question, what are people actually copying? Is the Birkin bag a copy of an older design, but with better marketing?
Yes they all copy each other. That’s the name of the game
Jane Birkin designed it on an aeroplane on a napkin and gave the design to the CEO of Hermes. She was huge in France and a partner of Serge Gainsbourg. It is an interesting story.
@EntertainingPlusEtiquette Yes, it is interesting. Helps to have friends in high places 😉
Anna I really miss hearing my dear elegant ladies. Can you please bring it back?😊
There are online and in person stores where for a few hundred dollars - 1k you can have a custom and beautiful handmade leather bag made in Italy that surpasses the quality of most designer brands and you can often choose your own colours, hardware etc if you’re able to see past labels.
Well said. I totally understand it
The status is not "perceived". The bragging rights are in full force and effect. It separates the haves from the have not. However, a birkin dupe from Walmart is just a very sad optic IMO.
I would never spend my money on brand names, I want very good quality and well crafted most brands are made in the same building as poor quality items, I only buy quality not names
I love this thought-provoking video. I love how your content has evolved.
Same thing.
Thank you Anna for bringing the value, environmental and social aspects to the conversation!
he variety of textures in the *xbagy* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
Love etsy
Hello Anna,Happy New Year ❤ may you please tell me your opinion on bottega veneta small andiamo, and murakami Louis Vuitton bags which one are you considering to buy?! Do you think its tacky or classy
I'll pass on both of them 😁❤
ditto
I’m a big fan of mid-range/artisan bags because the quality and craftsmanship are there without the ludicrous price tag.
Thanks for the videos. Happy new year! 🇧🇷
Totally agree with you, Anna! Excellent video. Thank you and take care!
Hi Ana,
I have loved your content already in the early days because you were upfront and didn't shy away from saying unpopular things.
Hi Anna, I love your videos.
I’d like to get your take on the Balenciaga scandal and how that affected how you buy luxury goods.
Can we trust that designer products are ethically sourced when we hear about Dior in Italy?
Ana does seem to have grown, matured or found her niche from when she 1st came on the scene.
I could buy the real deal, but prefer to live with the things i like and love weather they are real or junk. Don need ti impress noone.
