But some cons need to be consider: - No Speaker - Pretty big and heavy if you have small hand - The rubber band sometime make me itchy, just need to wash it everytime I workout
I am into climbing/mountaineering. We generally use 2 watches, one as backup. My Tactix7 was sooo inaccurate for SpO2 (as important for us as heart rate), that I got a TRex2 as the backup. I ended up giving my Tactix7 to a relative: other than the backup flashlight, not a huge upgrade over my old Fenix6. Just got my TRex3, thanks to your excellent review. I haven’t climbed yet, but the offline maps look very promising. I still like my Garmins but, the clunkyness, slow renderings, and specially the unbelievable bugs on the Fenix8 not only stopped me (and team) from even trying to get them: we have ‘Nokia-feelings’ (Blackberry-feelings, perhaps?) towards our Garmin equipments: excellent brand that, overconfident on their uniqueness, failed to be ahead of the game. What the hell, Garmin! Being challenged by Apple, I can understand. Loosing the bid to Amazfit, we are all stunned.

Fenix E still has some advantages if you ignore the price. The body battery / sleep score discussion is the same along with the maps being significantly more detailed and routeable. But for a general smartwatch experience the T-Rex 3 is pretty amazing!

Been running one for 9 days now. I agree that the sleep metrics don't accurately portray my reality. When it comes to workout metrics, however, I find it easily equal to my Fenix 7x Solar. I thought I would miss the Garmin, but I don't. Obviously I am not running the 8, so the Amazfit isn't up to that level, but I believe it better than the 7 series. I have been on the Garmin ecosystem for a while now, and I miss it, but not enough to switch back (yet).
The T-Rex is the first smartwatch ever to tick all my boxes since the inception of the smartwatch. Insane set of features for the price. I think if amazfit continue to improve while staying at the same price point in the future, the competition is in for a bad time.
I'm with you, I love the watch at the price. I have had mine about the same amount of time as you. I love the new features that you outlined like voice to text, photos in text and other features you already mentioned. **CONS; I am a bit perplexed and disappointed after owning the T-Rex 2. It appears there are a few features that are 1 step forward and 2 steps back from the T-Rex 2. Examples are I have lost the ability to use the remote camera (android user). I also really liked the music/podcast streaming option controlling your phone streaming content which is now gone. These two alone don't ruin me on the watch, but they are features that I believe someone dropped the ball on. Just an opinion😉.
Thanks for sharing. A couple of comments: Remote camera control is available on T-Rex 3 and works on both iPhone and Android in my testing (iPhone 16 / Google Pixel 9 Pro). Add a version with an LED flashlight and they will likely have a Garmin convert out of me when I move on from my Fenix 7X SS. I'd prefer to stay MIP having previously also owned a Epix and Epix Pro. I just really like the MIP displays, but 2000nit might just be enough to not be so annoyed by glare.

Thank you Dave for this nice video. Amazfit is good brand, I think that they are doing exactly the same that they did when they launch the Stratos 2 (it was fantastic watch at this time). I went from Amazfit (Pace, Stratos2 - 3) to Garmin (945 - Instinct 2X and since 1 week Fenix 7X pro) but I had hugely hesitate with this TRex 3.. Nice follow up review. About importing routes to watch, one can use the option in app under Profile / 3rd-party account linking / Komoot / Import routes, to import planned routes in Komoot. So you avoid gpx exporting. This is for now the best way for me. Nothing for Strava unfortunately, so sync Strava with Komoot and upload to watch.
@@ChaseTheSummit Yeah, me too, some little quirks to be solved (but also Garmin has some of its own :D ), but all in all very nice device with app. Also it is nice to see they are updating things regularly and listening to reviewers/comments. Keep up the good reviews and good luck!
Good stuff! What I'm missing is the training stuff- easiness of creating workouts in the app, connecting with other platforms for online workouts upload etc. 💪
I am waiting out for a Falcon 2 with better sensors and a speak and much improved software at $500 and below then that will definitely be a Garmin killer. They arealmost there just need to improve apps software and sensors.
Love the comeback reviews! I am still trying to decide between Fenix 8 (965$ for titanium 47mm amoled), POLAR GRIT X2 Pro (795$ for steel version) and The TREX 3 for 295$... ;) And I still need help!
I also liked this watch overall. But i miss BLE HR sharing. Looks like it was better possible on older watches(software versions). Now I've ended up with the Garmin Fenix 8 after all. The Garmin also feels a little more comfortable on the wrist if you wear it for several days. And during strength training, for example, it recognizes the muscle areas better. But the Garmin is of course 3-4 times more expensive.
Coming from a Garmin Fenix 6 pro, I don't think I'd go backwards in some of the health tracking aspects. But I agree it appears to be crazy good value for what it does. My likely next watch is a FR 965. But I'm still pretty happy with the Fenix.
Longtime Garmin user, I tried the TR3...and it falls short in too many areas, the worst problem is the unreliable HR when Garmin have now nailed that. Maps display is poor too, speed/pace lags badly, etc...
The fact that it shows you the depth, and can tell time, just tells me that the dive rating was a compete afterthought A simple software update can add things like decompression alerts which appear to be lacking in that short clip you showed going from 140ft to like 70 feet in a few seconds.
i actually would not say a garmin killer. it still has many flaws but i would defnitely agree to call a smartwatch killer for anything that in its price range this include Garmin F165, coros pace 3, apple watch SE and other brand. i would even agree this watch can compete with AW series 10 or Garmin F265
almost 1 yr later i am overall happy with my Suunto Race ( though not fond with the latest update personally), but i feel if i would shop for watch now, probably i would be happy with the TRex 3 as well, especially since it costs only 1/2 the price. either case, the Fenix 8 for my need would be money wasted i dont have to waste.
Looking to get my first gps watch. Don't feel i need most of the features offered. Plan on using it as a hunting watches. So, gps, altimeter, and barometric info is priority. I like the price of this particular watch. Would you recommend it to a newbie?
actually, the way you explained their AI capabilities, it appears it is better than garmin. Strava just said most used watch this year was the Forerunner 965; these kinds of capabilities is what it needs to keep ahead of the T-Rex
I noticed in this video you mentioned that you felt there was an update. Possibly for sleep, tracking accuracy? Wondering if you updated it and if it seems to have changed anything?
I wish the T-Rex series had a speaker. You can answer calls but can't hear anything. Makes no sense to have a speaker. I still really like this watch though.
Same here with the Trex 3 had a speaker! Thatś the only reason why I haven´t upgraded from the Amazfit Balance as it has nearly all the features of the Trex 3 and has a speaker for phone calls
Wanted to ask your opinion on the running on treadmill feature, as T-Rex gives u two options, either let t-rex calculate automatically your speed like every other watch, but they are also offering stable speed which allows you to set the speed as on treadmill(and adjust it, but you have to pause activity), which seems like a really good idea to me, however as a previous consumer of suunto and garmin, they don’t have that feature to choose, is there any reason why? Am I missing something?
Can u compare the calories burn data with main brands like Samsung or apple. I have the t rex 3 and the Samsung watch ultra. I put them both on a consistent workout activity at the same time one on each of my wrists.and the Samsung usually shows 5000 calories burn for a 11 hrs workday but the t rex 3 is only showing 3000 calories for the same amount??? Which one is the misleader or the lyer??l here Samsung or the t rex 3???
I have both the Balance and the T-Rex 3, and in every single situation the Balance is brighter and easier to see than the T-Rex 3. I've made multiple posts on Reddit and put up multiple comparison pictures of the watches side by side and the Balance is always brighter. I've had both watches for about 1 and 1/2 months and hands down I would say the Balance is a better overall watch and has seen more frequent and feature rich OTA updates. Maps for me on the T-Rex 3 look like garbage but I'm not sure if it's because I'm near an international waterway but it's a mixture of either blackstreet grids or White Street grids, wether the mapping is in light mode or dark mode on; my maps are always half of my streets are colored blue like the neighborhood I live in is partially underwater. 🙄 It's kind of a joke how bad it looks. The AI features on the T-Rex 3 kind of suck compared to the abilities on the Balance. The assistant doesn't seem to be as robust and updated on the T-Rex 3, it still can't properly tell me what the weather will be like tomorrow, but the Balance can. At least the T-Rex 3 can take a hit where as the balance would probably get a scratch.
Great review Dave as usual. Just wondering, I am currently using Fenix 6 Sapphire. Which one better do you think? Should I keep the fenix 6 or change to Trex 3?
Tough call, the Fenix 6 still has some advantages like Body Battery and sleep metrics seeming more accurate. Then there's the mapping which is still superior on garmin even though it's a bit laggy. The T-Rex 3 feels more modern and has a more intuitive user interface. It provides a funner "smartwatch" experience but I'd say it's still not as capable in terms of being a sport watch. It will boil down to your needs and what you're looking for.
I really want to love my T rex 3 But the latest update removed the ability to control music on my phone one of the main reasons I have a smartwatch So far now I will be going back to my GTR 4
I’m having trouble deciding between the trex3 and garmin fenix 7X as there are some really good deals in the uk for the fenix 7X what are your thoughts please
What to you think of the reaction time for voice controls compared to an Apple watch ? Do you need the phone connection to use voice commands ? Or is there a good base ai on the watch itself like on apple watch 10 where you can use voice commands off line for timers, alarms, reminders, translator functions ? Unfortunately there's no speaker for feedback like on apple watch :-( When can we expect a newer follow up watch from Amazefit ?
@@NeoVdV the voice commands are pretty quick. Sometimes taking 2-4 seconds more complex tasks taking 5-7 seconds. Some commands work offline like changing settings or starting activities. Anything involving a search goes online and requires your phone. I wouldn’t expect another TRex anytime soon since this one is so new but I could be wrong. I’d expect another model in the spring but likely a different series.
@ChaseTheSummit Thx. I got used to the apple BUT I new step away from apple products in general. I think Amazefit should and can add the option to activate voice control by wrist up movement so you don't need your other hand to push a button when in an activity. And having a speaker to acknowledge the command is very useful. I don't need voice assist to do internet search or calculations etc as then I need to bring a phone and the you can better do it on your phone anyway ! I now use the apple watch without having it connected to an iPhone from day one ! Only need the old iPhone 11 for when I want to install an off line map or a software update, else the iPhone stays off and in a drawer at home. Yes the trex3 is recent but the balance is up for a new version I think ;-)
funny IA's audio apart, how are recorded the data from the Helio ring and the Trex? if you sleep with both, which one is recorded at the morning? I tried with the Balance and a Trex ultra, and "wins" the device associated earlier.
Any problems with the heart rate spiking at the beginning of exercises and then getting stuck while paired with a heart rate strap? This has happened to me on the last 5 runs and the problem lasts for 10 minutes. I am talking to Amazfit about it but wondered if you had any similar problems.
Hi, having a forerunner 245, would you change to an amazfit or stay with Garmin? I had one amazfit before, but It would "fake" HR in the first 40 min of every cycling activity (about 70 bps), only after 40 min would it pick up my actual HR, So I am kind of indecisive between staying with Garmin or going back to amazfit
The T-Rex 3 has a lot of advantages over the 245 but if you enjoy the Garmin ecosystem and the metrics you might want to consider something like the Forerunner 265 unless you absolutely need the basemap provided by Amazfit for navigation.
Thank you very much for the video, I have it and I'm very happy. But when I go out for a run with the Phoenix 7 on one wrist and the T Rex 3 on the other, the T Rex gives me fewer meters covered. Has anyone else noticed this? I understand that none of them are perfect, but I find it curious.
It started off pretty bad but lately is getting closer to my lab test (55) displaying 52. I think it takes a while for the watch to learn your physiology.
i have a TREX3 for 3months already. I noticed that when i was in the plane and flew about 29, 000 in altitude, the Trex3 altimeter was not accurate. Have you tried the watch in the plane? The TREX3 can not calculate the altitude accurately when you are in the pane.
@@emz0470 no watch will. Inside of a plane they pump in oxygen to simulate lower altitude otherwise everyone would get high altitude sickness. Your watch probably displayed 5000 feet in altitude which is normal. Hike to the top of Everest and it would be a different story.
You don't have the Curve app in America??? That's how we do the payments in Europe to carve up convert any brand of car like Visa or other to a Mastercard and then we can use the zeep pay
Anyone know if the maps on the t rex 3 actually show remote hiking trails like in the mountains? I am planning a hike to the alay mountains in kyrgystan which are extremely remote and wonder if those trails will actually show up on the watch map. They do show on mobile apps like gaia and alltrails.
In my area they do (White Mountains NH USS) from what I understand they use maps from OpenStreetMaps so whatever you see on the website you’ll likely see on the watch. Hope that helps!
It can be any GPX file from any source. You simply "share" the file with the zepp app and it will import into your routes library. Komoot makes the process easier because routes can be auto-imported.
@@ChaseTheSummit sweet, we ran out of time last time we were in Boston but that's on my list of places to see at some point! Thanks for the hard work reviewing all them watches!
Picked up the trex 3 for black Friday. The build quality is way nicer than the trex 2. Replacing my samsung galaxy ultra as my daily driver for a bit. Agree with you assessment of the additions it needs with the one call out for a speaker to take calls on. Great value. This is my 8th amazfit watch, I keep coming back to them. A few other things that I like with amazfit over samsung are the ability to sync all workout recordings to strava seamlessly. With my galaxy it does not sync auto recorded walks / runs. In addition i find that every month i have to reauthenticate strava with samsung health. Amazfit also makes sharing heart rate from the watch easy with a bike computer ( which i can't get to work on mu galexy watch ultra). I also like all health and device mgmt in one app with amazfit vs 2 with samsung... for the price nothing beats this watch currently
Health, metrics, yada yada. Now, Minesweeper? Now we're talking. Also, if you're worried about privacy, be worried about the national breach, Google, Microsoft, and Garmin (who was successfully breached and down for days). If you think your data is completely off-grid, you're going to be quite shocked when you see that it's mostly NOT the Chinese.
@@ChaseTheSummit Only audio track is enabled. I checked on different computers and there are no subtitles. Open this video on another account and you will see that there are no text subtitles.
@@user-dart thanks for letting me know. It's enabled, however sometimes it takes RUclips a little while for them to turn on. Maybe in a couple of days!
@@ChaseTheSummit Thank you very much for your answer. I will wait. I really want to see your review. I watched all the previous ones and bought them already. I am testing them for now but I really like the watch.
Maybe a scuba-diver is here in the comments, would it really be that hard for Amazfit to program a dive computer? I thought this are just some metrics like "okay you were X minutes in Y depth, now wait a Z minutes on depth A"? Or do dive computers need other certifications? There are lots of watches out there that can go very deep, but only a handful of them has a diving computer and I dont get why. Why would you build your watch to withstand these depths, but dont give apps to use it?
I wondered the same. I'm a bit naive in diving but I have to assume there's a reason they didn't include scuba features. For example, is there some sort of certification or liability they'd face by putting a scuba profile on the watch? What if it malfunctioned and caused injury to a diver? That may be why they decided to limit it to free diving so there's no liability involved. Just a guess!
I bought my T-Rex 3 few days back. Anyone else facing colour fringing phenomenon during dim light or complete dark? I feel like I got a flawed product.
@@ChaseTheSummit the display is absolutely fine. It only gets bad when during dark watch brightness goes to the lowest level and only then colour fringing is observed. Even at that moment if I increase the watch brightness to the maximum the fringing is gone. I am unable to comprehend why am I facing this issue because had the display been faulty it would have been like that all the time, but it only gets like that during pitch dark/ dim light only.
Sub titles ? Thanks. PS: Oh I see... vocal translation... sorry, the french voice is female... that doesn't match beside the robotic tone. Also, think about people learning english, listening and reading to improve their key for a large portion of the internet... This is why ''translation by voice" might be nice, but not on the other hand, that great.
Cool. I missed that. The email option is just about all I’d agree to. The root of the issue is Chinese law. They don’t need to disclose if they have been required to divulge information to the Chinese government. It’s just not worth saving a few dollars.

The Trex 3 does broadcast heart rate. It’s in the activity settings.
Excelente vídeo, tenho um T-Rex 3 e estou muito satisfeito. Parabéns pelo vídeo 👏👏
That wahoo kickr run looks amazing. Hope to see a review on it soon even though I’ll never own one lol.
Yup! Review coming soon!
The fact that it shows you the depth, and can tell time, just tells me that the dive rating was a compete afterthought
A simple software update can add things like decompression alerts which appear to be lacking in that short clip you showed going from 140ft to like 70 feet in a few seconds.
It makes me wonder if they're just trying to avoid any liability by not including those features or marketing as a full on scuba watch.
i actually would not say a garmin killer.
it still has many flaws
but i would defnitely agree to call a smartwatch killer for anything that in its price range this include Garmin F165, coros pace 3, apple watch SE and other brand.
i would even agree this watch can compete with AW series 10 or Garmin F265
Always dropping a banger video. I had this amazfit but found myself enjoying my fenix 8 way more.
I totally agree with you, thanks Dave, great review.
Super taf mec 👍🏻 merci pour ton travail 👌🏻
I have a suggestion Chase what you think of doing a comparison with all the watches under 400 usd who packs bang for bucks. By the way great video
almost 1 yr later i am overall happy with my Suunto Race ( though not fond with the latest update personally), but i feel if i would shop for watch now, probably i would be happy with the TRex 3 as well, especially since it costs only 1/2 the price. either case, the Fenix 8 for my need would be money wasted i dont have to waste.
First from the Philippines. Awesome content!
Looking to get my first gps watch. Don't feel i need most of the features offered. Plan on using it as a hunting watches. So, gps, altimeter, and barometric info is priority. I like the price of this particular watch. Would you recommend it to a newbie?
It's a great watch but if you want something simpler and more geared towards hunting the Garmin Instinct series might be a better move.
@ChaseTheSummit thank you
actually, the way you explained their AI capabilities, it appears it is better than garmin.
Not considering the price range would you prefer to take the t-rex 3 or the balance?
T-Rex 3 or instinct 2x ? Could you be kind enough to help me out and share your insights on choosing either one of them.
I would like to see the Garmin settings in the barometer/altimeter area on the T-Rex. I would like to manually set the sea level pressure.
I used the Trex 3 on a 20 hour Brevet with gps on accurate mode , and navigation on .. After 20 hours , it had 47% battery left
Wow! That's impressive. I'm assuming always on display turned off? What brightness setting?
AOD during the workout I kept off .. but had to raise to wake up many many times since I was using navigation …
Brightness was at auto
I paid 322$ for my trex3 since I had to import it.. Still worth it, would have paid 5-600$.
We just need a swimming drill log...the watch is amazing for the price
I almost always have my phone with me to listen to podcasts. Is it wise from a battery point of view to give the watch this option?
Can u compare the calories burn data with main brands like Samsung or apple. I have the t rex 3 and the Samsung watch ultra. I put them both on a consistent workout activity at the same time one on each of my wrists.and the Samsung usually shows 5000 calories burn for a 11 hrs workday but the t rex 3 is only showing 3000 calories for the same amount??? Which one is the misleader or the lyer??l here Samsung or the t rex 3???
Octagon shape, Suunto inner bezel, and Garmin-ish screws.
@@ChaseTheSummitthanks for the reply. I'll stick with my Fenix 6 then. 👍
Do you plan any follow ups on the garmin fenix 8?
There will be lots of Fenix 8 content in the near future
Commenting again LOL, You have the wahoo kickr run, when you do content on that machine, can you talk about if it integrartes with garmin connect.
I'll have a full review soon!
I really want to love my T rex 3 But the latest update removed the ability to control music on my phone one of the main reasons I have a smartwatch
So far now I will be going back to my GTR 4
Strange. Mine still has that feature.
@ChaseTheSummit I no longer have the ability after update 3.3.6.1 I did about a week ago
@ChaseTheSummit it doesn't control phone music since I took update 3.3.6.1 a week or so ago
@@DanT271Factory reset done?
@GroteGeer I tried 3 times unpaired and factory reset but still only watch music control
have you tried the earbuds? from amazfit?
I have not.
I’m having trouble deciding between the trex3 and garmin fenix 7X as there are some really good deals in the uk for the fenix 7X what are your thoughts please
If you using it for gym ,running ,walking
T rex 3 is your choice , it’s accurate with long battery life
Does it do tone alerts for text and app notifications?
I have just bought a Garmin Epix for the same price
@@craigward26 great deal!
For me it is waaay better than Garmin
The battery life is amazing
And nit just that
Overall looks also
What to you think of the reaction time for voice controls compared to an Apple watch ?
Do you need the phone connection to use voice commands ? Or is there a good base ai on the watch itself like on apple watch 10 where you can use voice commands off line for timers, alarms, reminders, translator functions ?
Unfortunately there's no speaker for feedback like on apple watch :-(
When can we expect a newer follow up watch from Amazefit ?
@@NeoVdV the voice commands are pretty quick. Sometimes taking 2-4 seconds more complex tasks taking 5-7 seconds. Some commands work offline like changing settings or starting activities. Anything involving a search goes online and requires your phone.
I wouldn’t expect another TRex anytime soon since this one is so new but I could be wrong. I’d expect another model in the spring but likely a different series.
The Trex 3 has both online and offline voice controls
@ChaseTheSummit Thx.
Yes the trex3 is recent but the balance is up for a new version I think ;-)
sounds like trex beat garmin this time! too good to be true. :-)
funny IA's audio apart, how are recorded the data from the Helio ring and the Trex? if you sleep with both, which one is recorded at the morning? I tried with the Balance and a Trex ultra, and "wins" the device associated earlier.
The watch will be prioritized if you're wearing both devices.
I'm using external app with Garmin to create route anyway
Any problems with the heart rate spiking at the beginning of exercises and then getting stuck while paired with a heart rate strap? This has happened to me on the last 5 runs and the problem lasts for 10 minutes. I am talking to Amazfit about it but wondered if you had any similar problems.
Strange, I haven't had that happen. What heart rate sensor are you using? I wonder if it's intermittently losing connectivity.
@@ChaseTheSummitHRM pro plus. I have two of them and have tried both and the problem persists.
@ChaseTheSummit I am using a Garmin HRM Pro. I have two of the same heart rate straps and have tried both of them and the issue still exists.
I have an older Coros and want Amoled this I tempting dont like the new pace pro look.
Do u think the VO2 max in trex2 is accurate? One time in my MTN bike activity it shows that my VO2 max is 52. I don't know if it's accurate
Is there a subscription required for the GPS?
No
No
You don't have the Curve app in America??? That's how we do the payments in Europe to carve up convert any brand of car like Visa or other to a Mastercard and then we can use the zeep pay
Zepp Pay doesn't work in the USA for some reason. It's disabled.
Knock out wood!😅 Here we say 'Touch Wood!
Can you upload a gpx file from AllTrails to trex 3 for navigation instead of Kamoot?
It can be any GPX file from any source. You simply "share" the file with the zepp app and it will import into your routes library. Komoot makes the process easier because routes can be auto-imported.
@@ChaseTheSummitOk great. Next question. Will a hike upload to AllTrails/Strava automatically after finished?
whats it like to upload route to follow?
Mentioned in the video under “maps navigation”
Curious what their new 2025 model will bring and deliver.
Hold on... you're from Micky Ward's area?! (If you're a boxing fan and Dropkick Murphys fan too, you'll know)
Yup! In fact I’m one town over from where he grew up.
Please turn on subtitles
They are enabled!
Bro for 250? There is no Garming offer anything better
Suunto Race S vs T-Rex 3, which one is better? 🤔
T-Rex 3 battery life is huge.
Man, I don't know why but youtube decided to start this video with the traslation in italian... well, it was quite funny! :D :D :D :D
@@GiuseppeSavo 😂 yeah apparently they dub videos in different languages now!
I bought my T-Rex 3 few days back. Anyone else facing colour fringing phenomenon during dim light or complete dark? I feel like I got a flawed product.
@@muneebahmad392 not sure I understand. The display on mine looks as good as my iPhone 16 display. If you see fringing I would assume a bad unit.
@ it works fine even when there's absolute dark in the room? You don't see any fringing?
You want too much for watch which is priced under 250$ on BF. Stop comparing it with 1000$ watch!! ;)
So much questionable T-Rex 3 content floating around out here. . . 🦖

@@OptimusMonk01 - There's a few of us all posting videos about this same product. I think DCRainmaker has one coming up soon also.
Matt legend! You’re review was 🔥 btw
I’d be worried about sending my location and notification data to china. I’ll stick with Garmin.
Check out the privacy section of this video. There are settings within the app to limit what data gets sent where.
Cool. I missed that. The email option is just about all I’d agree to. The root of the issue is Chinese law. They don’t need to disclose if they have been required to divulge information to the Chinese government. It’s just not worth saving a few dollars.
Longtime Garmin user, I tried the TR3...and it falls short in too many areas, the worst problem is the unreliable HR when Garmin have now nailed that. Maps display is poor too, speed/pace lags badly, no Body Battery, etc...yes it's cheaper, but there's a reason for that, the software is years behind.
