I was completely stunned when I found out this mall was all cgi. It is so perfectly rendered down to the last detail. One of my favorite artists on youtube! Thank you!
The best part is, the used software is completely opensource and free.
did he use blender for the entire thing?!
@@MKVideoful
@@MKVideofulit's blender right ?
@@MrCrashyBashy yes!
@@MKVideoful *to an extent, the video was rendered using a render farm
You should make more of these behind the scenes videos. It’s interesting to see your process making these videos.
Yes! He needs to make more
Agreed! I'm trying to learn Blender and dabbling in animation, and seeing videos of artists' processes is very inspiring. Plus this guy is just super talented and that whole video was so beautifully rendered! It's fun to see how it came together.

alright y'all let's not demand things of kane, he's busy enough
@@infinite_jess Good point. It was mostly a suggestion, but I totally understand. Between this series and that Backrooms movie, he already has a lot on his plate.
Whoever made the shopping mall music did a phenomenal job at capturing that feeling of browsing and wandering around in a mall. In fact, you could play this in an actual mall and no one would notice the difference because it fits so well. Again, one of the many reasons why I love this genre of music.
I'm pretty sure that Kane himself made all of the music, could be wrong tho :)
@@BurntMemoriesAltNah, you’re somewhat wrong all the music he used isn’t his.
It also sounds echoey, just like in malls
@@BurntMemoriesAlt its from the album shades by riverworn
@@NotZawie But it's been remastered because nothing on that album sounds like mall muzak. It's light R&B jazz. So Kane changed something.
Gotta love when the jumpscare has literally no sound, and because of this it's a billion times more effective
Love your work Kane, thanks for being you and so dedicated o/
Exactly! You shouldn't need to deafen someone to scare them :)
@@samuraiowlmusica quiet scare means the actual reaction too is more effective
As you can see me personally if I saw that thing in real life, I would run I’m gone
@@samuraiowlmusic 🤣
@@Zynet_Eseled my dad was once playing a horror game with my brothers watching; when he got hit with a jumpscare, it was my brothers' screams that scared him, not the monster 🤣
Wow - The '90s mall muzak' was spot on, and I STILL have a hard time believing that the whole mall was CGI - even in these rough cuts it looks so freaking good. Cannot wait to see what your backroom movie is like... Just don't burn out on us or turn into a secret creep or anything like that, because you've got an amazing career ahead and a lot of fans who are happy to be along for the ride!!
There is still a feeling of "on rail motion" regarding how the camera moves
I spent so long not sure if the mall was CG or not because of the specificity of which mall it was that the third act reveal where the mall is overgrown hit me like a train
It’s almost, like, a weaponization of Suspension of Disbelief or something; where you get the viewer to convince themselves what they’re seeing is the ordinary as a low-budget stand in for the fantastic and accept that premise to hide the fact that it’s a deliberate construction the whole time
The only thing that was a giveaway was the main character having no reflection of the mall surfaces. It's basically unnoticeable most of the time, however.
@@canaconn2388it would probably be the same if it was real. Most people try not to move all over the place with a. Camera.
Muzak is always the height of terror. It adds to the “split second away” nature of liminal spaces.
most people peak at one viral success and milk it dry until it doesnt even have a soul anymore. coming up with an equally interesting story with even more polish than the last one is absolutely fantastic. i like this series more than the backrooms now. im glad you're making this movie but honestly im more captivated by oldest view.
I still like the Backrooms more, for its literal endless possibilities. But this series is undeniably well thoughtout.
@@FaiaHalo sure yeah, i can see where you're coming from there
3:18 don't just scare me like that kane
lol
Lmao
Its crazy how genuinely photoreal some of those rendered screenshots looked, what an incredible project, especially from a technical standpoint.
Still can’t believe you created an accurate replica of an entire mall IN BLENDER! You’re a hug inspiration to me and I love your work!
He even rendered them from the actual mall's blueprints, too! I don't remember how he said he got a hold of those, but he had pictures of the original Mall blueprints to work from, so it's dead accurate!!
Worth noting: Kane and another person worked on the mall together.
As a 3D artist myself I can recognize how much effort you’ve put into your content and it’s honestly applaudable! Keep up the good work and post more behind the scenes content like this!
The oldest view is hands down one of the scariest shit I've seen all year, and now this making of… My jaw is on the floor. I was 100% certain the only CG shots were the ones in the tunnel; took me a while to spot the tiniest bit of texture mirroring but I was seriously starting to think everything was real, and then you casually show the WHOLE MALL IS CG?! This is INSANE. You're really, really, really talented. Great job, cheers from Italy!
all backrooms universe is in cgi :) but I see that people barely mention it so I just found out this video because I was confused
@@WildBeretthis isn’t backrooms related in the slightest but I get what you mean
@@Llamu it kinda is when the main character literally mentions the backrooms in the video
Haha! The "Giant Infestation" is funny as hell! Keep up the amazing work!
A part of me is wondering if something like that will happen in a future video
I screen shoted it :}

3:21 as well
The Dallas mall makes me feel nostalgic for something I never had, and I love it. Amazing job on the animation dude.
I still struggle wrapping my head around the fact that this is all made with 3D software. The precision in the details is what makes the experience of watching feel genuine. True masterpiece, technically and story wise. 👌
The Oldest View is jaw-droppingly masterful. It evokes such a range of emotions. Your work is incredible!
Incredible to me how stuff like the “Giant Infestation” looks more like a photoshopped image of a real place than the digital model it really is
I honestly thought you had filmed this before the mall was closed and demolished. Watching exploration videos of the mall, it was never this clean after closure. This blows my mind
The thumbnail jumpscared me. There's something so scarily uncanny about Mr. The Oldest View. It's incredible
3:21 was an unnecessary jumpscare lol
otherwise, I'd really like to see more videos like this as I always wondered the process of "how" you create your work!
He’s just a goofy lil (big) guy…
That was both terrifying and hilarious at the same time. I can clearly imagine Wendigoon jumping in his chair with that moment.
He's got such kind eyes, though! And big arms for big hugs!
@@luistenma85 that's what popped into my mind too 😂
@@luistenma85he would squirm and freak out like tyler1
Its much easier to hide rendering flaws behind the rough VHS look of your Backrooms series, but something as crystal clear as this shows your immense progress. This hops, skips and jumps right over the uncanny valley...and you put all that hard work out here for free. We shall watch your career with great interest.
Getting a view into such high quality content is truly something
One could say, an *oldest* view
I actually really love how this video for the most part feels like an actual recording of the chronological development of building a retro mall. Like this feels like some architectural filing of how a certain mall was built in the past.
If there's one thing that's always stuns me in your work, it's that how realistic your materials are in your CG
I’m curious how you were able to get the camera motion to sync up so perfectly with the sounds wyatt made as he moved the camera. The camera motion looks so natural and it just FEELS like an old found footage reel.
I think that’s honestly what sells it when it comes to believing the mall is real. The actual mall itself looks amazing! It’s only heightened by the camera’s constant movement as though it’s held by an unsteady hand by a person who isn’t necessarily always looking the same direction the camera is pointing.
Проделана просто невероятная работа! Большое спасибо за твоё творчество! =)💜✨
As a fellow blender created and filmmaker , I have so much respect for what you do. Making realistic environments and mind bending, lore filled stories in a short period of time is incredible. Keep up the good work.
At first i literally thought this was recorded in real life! Absolutely unbelievable work!
Me too
Gracias Kane por tu gran dedicación a esta serie de videos que vas subiendo, la verdad espero con ancias el cap 4 de the oldest view ❤
I have lived in Dallas my whole life. When i first saw Valley View Mall and the giant tree thing i was stunned. me and all my friends would go until the place shut down. Great tribute Kane, thanks :)
Kane is gonna be an absolute monster in the film industry in the future. I'm certain we'll see him pop up in numerous titles.
Really happy to have helped work on this huge project, thanks for the opportunity ❤

Came for the behind the scenes, stayed for the sublime mall music.
You did such a beautiful job man. It feels just like I remembered it as a kid. It's like you put some love into that. It looks like the last time I walked through it to go to the AMC theater. You did an absolutely phenomenal job.
I absolutely love this, please make more behind the scenes stuff like this
0:44 Kane... You have the power to make any cgi look real... And this is what you do with it.
So many hugs from Mr. Oldest View. -semicit.
Dude doesn't hold back on the soundtracks even for the BTS footage! ❤️
I'm still fucking amazed by this. Jesus christ. In terms of like, early filmmaker success, you're straight up surpassing Sam Raimi rn if that makes any sense. This is insanely impressive.
Not ashamed to admit it took me to about 40 minutes in to even consider this wasn't filmed at a real location with some fancy editing around it. Amazing work here this was arguably my pick for the best rendition of found footage horror since the birth of the genre.
during the "giant infestation" image, all i can hear are those videos of like 500 different markiplier intros playing at the same time
You did a great job with Valley View! I was able to recognize it right off the bat. The last time I was there though it looked pretty rough with buckets everywhere cause the roof was leaking. It is quite eerie walking through an empty mall. They kept the AMC open for a bit and since the theatre was on the second floor you still had to walk through a small portion of the mall to go see movies and ride right on up that escalator. Great job! As scary as this was it was also nostalgic and brought back some good memories.
I cannot even fathom the amount of effort and hours of lost sleep spent creating this. And it has paid off brilliantly. You and your team have created something truly spectacular here. I speak for many when I say that you have inspired me to go above and beyond. Now please, get some rest!! You deserve it.
I love when people make amazingly detailed things and then give a glimpse into the work in progress. Thanks for this!
YOUR TELLING ME THAT IT WAS VFX, I genuinelly thought that it was a real mall with someone pushing arounb the giant
3:22 THIS SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME
the Genie GS-3246 cameo was such a delight, when i saw it in the original video i audibly gasped
Always get massive chills in my back and legs whenever I watch The Oldest View! Amazing.
It's crazy how all of this is just CGI, I for reals thought this was an actual location throughout the whole video and only some things were CGI
i was almost falling asleep watching because it's late here and then 3:22 happened... thank you kane i am now fully awake and i will never sleep again
If none of us knew this was made with Blender this could pass off as real. Kane you do such a phenomenal job at these. I always get so excited whenever there is a new upload.
This is really really inspiring, seeing the rough bits makes the final project seem less like a perfect untouchable thing and more like a sculpture that had to be built up. It makes me think I can make my own sculpture.
I might make my own rolling giant for fun, I love huge puppets
The part when the music stopped and just zoomed in on the giant literally made my heart stop for a sec
I have loved everything about this series to date, and it's even cooler getting to see some of the process behind such a fantastic work! I can't wait to see what you have in store for the future!
the fact that you’re only 18 is absolutely mind-blowing. holy shit dude
As someone who went to this mall as a kid, the videos fucked me up. What a great recreation of it and the statue, great work Kane
This is AMAZING! I can't even imagine how long this took you to build from scratch. The rolling giant is definitely your best work yet, thank you for showing us the behind the scenes!
Okay this is actually insane. When my friend and I were watching this we were discussing whether this was filmed in a real mall or cgi. This is mindblowing Kane, you're actually insane at what you do.
There is so much work behind all of your videos. Seeing this makes me appreciate them even more.
It's completely mindblowing that none of the mall was live action. Just stunning. This was your best work yet, and I'm hype to see what you dream up next! ❤
Man I love your content, thanks for letting us see this, really shows the amount of time and attention to detail you put in
as somebody who considers themself a connoisseur of genuine classic MUZAK tracks, whomever did the music for the Oldest Views background absolutely nailed it, it sounds almost exactly the same as the "late era" of the company, 1990s to 2000s (though IRL most of the tracks at that time were just covers of existing popular music) right down to the instruments (especially the guitar and the way it was tuned)
I believe Kane does the music himself as well!
@rabelaisian-crow he usually does, but not this time. He does, however, credit the artist who made the music in this video and the original TOV uploads.

Still completely mind-boggling that this is all rendered, amazing artistry at work Kane! Excited for your next project ❤
You the goat, incredible work as always and I'm mesmerized to see this is all created from basically scratch, honestly impressive
The quality of the rendered set is absolutely astounding. It really does look like it was actually filmed on-location at the mall. If I hadn't already known that it's a computer-generated environment, I'm sure I would have thought it was filmed in the real world. Incredible job!
it’s absolutely incredible to see how everything looked behind the scenes!!! you’re so talented😭❤️
This is absolutely awesome, it’s amazing seeing this childhood mall recreated in cgi…makes me miss the good memories I had there…thank you very much!
Not only is the modeling stunning, but the way you did motion tracking AND sound design is incredibly impressive and adds so much to the whole experience. I cannot wait to see what else you do with this and whatever else you make down the line!
I love this!! I really hope you're able to somehow encorporate that fire with that lighting it'd be so cool. I love all the shots especially the ones like at the very end or when the music cuts off with the giant's face. Really excited for everything you're doing dude! Can't wait to see more TOV eventually ❤
Loved watching this. Every frame of the mall is such a blessing
I love to see how my favourite creator makes his works. Its great to see you branch out and make things like behind the scenes videos. Very informative and very interesting!
You have sold me so hard on the atmosphere that i keep looking at the images youre showing here and repeating in my head that it's a 3D render but the trance still isnt broken😭🖤❤️ excellent lighting and natural camera angles do wonders
1:45 ok, thats scary as hell
Kane, you do incredible work brother. You're so damn young too. You have a bright future ahead of yourself. Never grow stagnant, never stop learning, never grow complacent. I did those things when I was good at art at a young age and I've lost it now. Don't ever lose your creativity man. You have a gift.

"VERY rough Giant movement/environment test" I KNEW the giant was gonna do that why is it still terrifying?
I am amazed at how detailed this all is, I would have never thought the mall, and everything was all CGI, you did a great job at the realism, amazing!
mind. freakin. blown. when you don't look close, these deadass just looks like pictures of the mall. even when you DO look close! it's a photo from the 90s and not a CGI render. hats off to you and your crew sir. brilliant work.
I am actually furious at how incredibly good you are at this omg. This is IMPOSSIBLY good, I'd been wondering just exactly how much was 'real' and now.. well now I know. O_O
You guys have a very good understanding of lighting a scene. Awesome work!
Holy crap! I didn’t know the mall was CGI! I have been to the REAL Valley View mall many many years ago and literally couldn’t tell the difference, I thought you just made arrangements to film in the mall before it was destroyed. WOW! Impressive!
If you're willing to answer, how do you get running shake? Are you somehow recording cell phone telemetry data and importing that as a path, or is it a plug-in that provides just enough randomness in the bounce of the jog?
Either way, it's pretty convincing and the whole piece was excellent!
watched this to feel some comfort/closer after having been spooked by the actual movie... but finding out it was basically all animated is somehow even more unsettling. like my ability to detect what is real is slipping

Pretty mind blowing that everything is made by hand. nothing like a good handcrafted anything. good job. holy moly. this gave me stupid brain
I used to shop at Valley View mall here in Dallas when it was in its prime. This is so well done, I didn't believe it was CG/Blender until I found this video. Well done well done sir!!

I could not tell you how much joy seeing behind the scenes videos for projects this big gives me
I love seeing how all the different pieces fit together, it's just very cool to see
And how I cant tell sometimes which of these are the model mall and which are the real one, there's just so much here convincing my little monkey brain that this is somewhere I could be and stand and walk around and maybe get flattened by a giant puppet careening toward me at breakneck speeds
It's all just so cool :]]]
Seeing the behind the scenes really made me think of the mall differently. Thanks Kane!
