    In mean value theorem, there exists a number c in given interval [a,b] at which the instantaneous and average rate of change are equal having the other necessary requirements of the theorem. That's why, you wrote, f'(x) = [f(b) - f(a)]/[b - a]. This is the point I want to clear to you. JazakAllah.

      Remeber f'(x) is instantaneous change while [f(b) - f(a)]/[b - a] is average rate of change.
