  • This calculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the mean value theorem. It contains plenty of examples and practice problems that show you how to find the value of c in the closed interval [a,b] that satisfies the mean value theorem. For the mean value theorem to be applied to a function, you need to make sure the function is continuous on the closed interval [a, b] and differentiable on the open interval (a, b).

      @@Practicalinvestmentsreally hate that so many others have similar situations with the classes.
      For me, I had to take online calculus, and my professor just responds to emails by adding a few words to a copy-paste reply. Never answers questions, nevers helps out anyone, and has us use a textbook that is way too complicated and lazy.
      By which I mean, the definitions explain things terribly and vaguely, and the examples are like 1 + 2 = 3. Meanwhile, the exercises and hw ask us extravagent and complicated problems, none of which are ever explained or solved to let us see or practice anything.

      @marcushendriksen8415 5 лет назад +1

      This is too broad a question. Age is continuous; how are we supposed to solve this without any more information? All you have to do is break 144 into six pieces, which means you've given us a solution already (24). Unless she is not counting herself amongst the six but does include her age in the calculation of the mean (which is kinda convoluted, so I doubt it)

    Is there a way to determine if a function is continuous and/or differentiable w/o having to draw out a sketch graph?

    If we change the interval to [2, 3] for
    f(x) = |4x - 5|, then we can apply the MVT and we find f'(x) = 4 = [f(3) - f(2)]/[3 - 2]
    So, 4 = [|7| - |3|]/[3 - 2] = 4.
    This is true.
    But what value of c satisfies this condition?
    All c in (0, 4) according to the MVT and as it so happens in this case for c = 2 and c = 3 as well.
