Great work. was told years ago that you have to be careful in what you spray on helmets because it will eat into the material. Understand that's why you would use a base coat but do you need to be careful in what you choose?
My experience, not so much with a shiny helmet, but more of the flat helmets tend to have reactions, depending on the quality of the helmet real cheap helmets tend to react like crazy the higher-end ones I never really had a problem with. But the shiny Walmart specials or no name brand Amazon ones have a graphic on it and you’re scuffing it up to put artwork or base color on top you have to take it all the way down to the bear because sometimes those cheap helmets have cheap glue that holds the graphics on and they will react to your base color, so I usually just kind of sand the whole thing down and start fresh. It takes a lot more time I know but at least I know when I put the final coat of clear on I’m not gonna get a surprise reaction it’s gonna go on with no surprises .
Well it’s not like I’m just on this helmet have a few jobs in different stages in the shop so I jump from job to job till I get close to the end then it’s just bust threw and finish (some jobs are drying due to primer some are waiting to cure to buff waiting on shipment of paint etc…) My base price for just about any helmet job is 450/500 bucks to start and if super crazy with colors and mult ideas up from there This job I believe came in and sat for a week or two before I could get to starting then think I was done in about 2 weeks. Just taking my time
Nice Work! I have 2 questions... Q1-If helmet already has color to it, after sanding would you recommend a base coat before painting design? Q2- What type clear coat did you use? Thank you.
when i paint a part i try to spray it the lightest color of the project or dust a white on the job because lighter colors over a darker base do not show up as will or you have to spray several coats of the lighter color on to get the color that it is now spraying a darker color over a lighter is the opposite example helmet is yellow and i have a purple graphic . that purple covers no problem over that yellow...... can always go darker not lighter have a helmet job im posting in a week or two that's white base and spraying yellow, orange, purple, red with very little amount of paints cause im using that white base to pop the yellow and orange colors clear coat..... Ive used house of kolor, ppg dupont ....about all of them you can use a low end clear like shop line or nasons there fine clears its just there thinner low uv covrage not a Heavy Solid meaning thick clear= high solid grater uv protect also lower end thinner clears air dry faster cause they are thinner and usally i have to sand them down again and re-clear to get the smooth finish to bury the graphic paint edges
Great job I like the fact that you show the mistakes you wouldn't of known at the end result 🤘
Great video. Nice paint job 👍🏾
