I saw that game and every televised Cowboy game in the 70's. Things aren't the same today. NFL football was great back then.
This was my first Cowboy game. When Drew caught that pass it felt like the stadium was bouncing. It was so loud. A real Wow moment. I sat in the opposite end zone and viewed the throw and catch. My mom bought season tickets the next 5 years. So happy my favorite 88 made the HOF today.
My parents were at that game. I think a neighbor had season tickets but couldn't go. Something came up last minute so the neighbor called my folks and they said heck yeah we'll go !! They were in the sitting the endzone seats where Drew Pearson caught the game winner. So that play unfolded and came right at them. I remember my mom saying how loud Texas Stadium was after that play. It was rocking she said.
You were there! I am jealous bud!
Fan since 71
I was 8 years old and a Vikings fan. But I liked the Cowboys and Redskins as well, and watched this game with my family. The first half at my Grandma's house during Thanksgiving dinner. I was rooting for the Cowboys that day, and in fact we all were. This 4th quarter was so amazing. We all went nuts. What a game!!!
Clint Longley Game!!!
#1 Dallas Cowboys 😎
From Wichita Falls Tx!!!
I lived and died with the Cowboys back then. It crushed my spirit when they lost to the colts in the Super Bowl. For me, the couldn’t just win, they had to dominate virtually every aspect of the game. When Roger went out, ON THANKSGIVING DAY no less, I could have tossed my turkey. Clint Longly came in and it seemed like it didn’t matter who played QB, they had a kind of magic about them. During the different eras when they appeared unbeatable, had they not done one thing, or chose to do something else, they could have been the most amazing football team forever. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, story of my life...😂 These days, I don’t give a damn about professional sports, but my comment about the story of my life was tongue and cheek as I’ve lived a blessed life.
Clint Longley
A Game To Remember Gladiator match up!
Back then the games were alot more physical than today! Great Come back and He was a Rookie!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I wouldn't say more physical, I'll say more like attack the key players to take them out the game, even if its a coward cheap shot.
I remember this game and remembered the name Clint Longley to this day. I had it in my head what I had seen as an 11 year old in 1974, but when I saw that last TD that I had remembered, it looked totally different than what I had in my head. I had also remembered it as occurring on the other end of the field. 😂
“I could watch the tape of that game and I would bet against him” 😂
Need to see a Drunk History on this game with Danny McBride as Clint Longley
Roger was a star, that day Clint was a brighter comet.
I was 12 and watched it at my aunt’s house. Great memory.
After the game, Blaine Nye said, “We just witnessed the triumph of the uncluttered mind.” Of course, that mind proved to be quite cluttered less than 2 years later.
I was 10 years old and remember watching this game, Clint Longley had one heck of an arm.
JayDogTitan 1464 yes sir👌
I was in 5th grade, and remember screaming my lungs out, everytime the Cowboys scored. I never knew why Longley was ousted. Hard to believe it's been 45 years. Here's the game.

I was having Thanksgiving dinner with my buddies from Ft' Gordon GA while in Savanna , watching the game on a 19 inch B&W TV , couldn't believe my eyes !
Jeff Dwyer : I was at Ft Gordon at the same time, in MP AIT.
My dad, born 1952, still remembers this play and says the announcers said, "What's a Longley?"
HaroldM814 A Winner!!!
👏👏👏👏
Imagine growing up a Die Never Cowboys Fanatic in the '70s while one parent loves the Steelers, "Franco's Italian Army" and the other is a Redskins fanboy. Now you know why I'm so damn crazy.
That’s my great uncle. I never met him but it’s cool they made this clip.
#1 Thanksgiving Game!!!!
Go Cowboys 😎 The Clint Longley game!!!!
Go Dallas Cowboys forever 👌
Gang Ster The Jason Garrett game against the Packers, and the Emitt game, the moment you knew that Cowboys team was going to be truly special under JIMMY Johnson. Against the Skins.
@@russellguercio5357 yes sir brother
Longley family #1 I know alot of them there great folk awesome story but Cowboys hatter's we're always #1 lol
I remember that game like it was yesterday- what a comeback- great plays
Me too but hated the outcome. HTTR
Never ever forget that name, and I'm 60 years old...one of the most crushing moments in my childhood as a Redskin fan. Couldn't wait to go outside and talk smack with my chums bout how we beat the Cowboys and put Roger the Doger out of the game. And, then comes in "Clint Longley" and throws this bomb to Drew Pearson...I'm still hurting!
I went to Lake Highlands High School in Dallas with his little brother, Kevin. That following Monday, he was like a shining Prince strolling down the halls, girls hanging all over him.
Passed by cowboy stadium in Irving many times, now they have AT&T!
As a former 3rd string player in the NFL for 4 years. Any opportunity you get is rare. You better be ready.
Of course the winning catch was to Mr. Clutch..Drew Pearson!!
My Cousin Clint Longley aka the mad bomber. Great game he played like a HOF QB that game!!! #1 Baby!! Man I wish Roger didn't piss off Clint us Longley's like to fight if provoked 💯
#Cowboys4Life
#LongleyFamily
Chris Longley Tx I think that was a big game Roger was the team with Drew Pearson Clint Longley was the MAN that Thanksgiving Day!!!
👊👊💯💯💯💯
Chris Longley Tx love the game I've known u and ur family for year's!!! ✊ Wish Clint and Roger got along he had a hell of an arm!!!
Salute 😎 to your family bruh. TeXas style. Cowboys forever 😎
TruTh 👊👊
i was 6 months old when game played and in my 45 yrs of life never heard of longley till just now damn but he was throwin bombs though and pearson was the best recieving end of those bombs too
He started the last game of the 1975 season against the Jets
I was at this Dallas Game!
I remember watching this I was like Clint who the rest is cowboy history
Now that was a GREAT GAME!!!!
As proved by the Seahawks and Cowboys this season, the best way to insure your team a victory is to play your 2nd-string qb.
i was seven and remember the pass - fun memory
Robert Bermudez I GOT YA BEAT.I WAS 5 AND REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY. WE DECORATED THE CHRISTMAS TREE AFTER THE GAME CAUSE EVERYBODY WAS IN GOOD MOOD.
Patrick m that is good for sure - i also remember i watched it happen on our old 21" b&w tv!
8 for me.
i'd sure like to see this game in its entirety. i was 8 at the time, and scooby doo, popeye and my big wheel were the only things that mattered.
Clint Longley was the man for 15 minutes
I always imagined Longley to be like Chris Penn's character from best of the best lol
I'm a Cowboys fan and remember watching this game on TV , just wondering why the DB (20) for the Redskins stopped?
I remember this game !
Wow cant believe it's been 34 yrs!!!
Time Fly's. Great Memories brother😂 and real fans remember this
@@chrislongleytx123 hey Chris are you related Clint???
Clint "The mad bomber" Longley.
Lamonica might take exception, to Longley's use that nickname.
Put Drew in the HOF.
In case you missed it , he got there in 2021
Clint Longley in the interview is a dead ringer for Kenny Powers from "Eastbound and Down"
How Drew Pearson is not in the HOF is criminal
Remember watching that game
Who's here on Thanksgiving Day 2021 watching this
Dutch Robbins
"Clint Longley the ONE TIMER mad bomber"...a Thanksgiving day of madness between two rival teams that simply hate one another.
If I recall the Oakland Raiders qb Daryle Lamonica was call the phrase "Mad Bomber".
Although the Dallas cowboys finish the season divisional standings at 8-6 that year of 74.
Last time cowboys didn't win their division was the year "65" at 7-7.....500 mark.
The following year of 1966 their first winning season as a franchise team was.....10-3-1.
Eastern division conference champs that year.
Correction on my own comment......72-season the Washington Redskins won the division that year.
Cowboys won a wild card exciting playoff game that year against the 49ers.
Payback came in the 1982 NFC Championship Game! Gary Hogeboom tried the same thing after Danny White got sacked, and he failed. Threw a pick-6 to Darryl Grant to seal the Redskins victory.
Grant intercepted a pass and returned it for a ten-yard touchdown in the 1982 NFC Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys, which the Redskins eventually won 31-17.
I was 10 at the time and my brother, an Eagles fan, bet me 50 cents the Skins would win. That was big money!
How is drew Pearson not in Hof??
He's there
#1 by far!!!! I date his cousin Chris. Great story every Thanksgiving I hear about it. Go Cowboys!!!
Brooke Craine I remember Jason Garrett in 94 against Green Bay
Raymond Solis Jr. Great memories brother love it
Brooke Craine I Know Yo guy he my partner 💯😎
Gang Ster Great Game Clint Longley aka mad bomber my people
Brooke Craine Great memories I know your man Clint Longley cousin Chris he is a boxer lol love me some Dallas Cowboys best team in all sports
Has to be most famous tg game ever...I was 9 in 74 and Longley was on fire. I think staubach kicked his ass 2 years later after a camp cheap shot, Roger was a great guy but you would not want to f with him. Hyper competitive too...Dallas fan when I was real young but became a patriot fan in 76....from NH
Seems like there should have been a safety back there. Especially on Drew Pearson, Mr. Clutch!
Congrats to Drew making hall of fame!! He burned alot of teams with the hail Mary!! Remember Vikings! Oh well I glad I grew up with football in 70s and 80s it was Football !! Just Football !! Watching Steelers cowboys ! Glad fans back. Oh and I'm checking the CFL game to. Their fans are back to. I just good to see.
Awesome
I almost lost my Thanksgiving turkey supper on that last bomb. The safety, Stone, got turned and lost the ball in the lights. He had had a pretty good year that season with 5 interceptions. Stone played eight or nine seasons, the best with the Cards in the late 70s. Longley was out of football in a couple years.
Stone led Washington in interceptions in 74 as their nickel back
Sadly he let the fame go to his head....I did see him in court one time. On a positive note, the first Cowboy game I ever watched, and it was GREAT
I was at this game sitting on the Redskins side of the field and was the first one up in the air when I saw Drew Pearson breaking free running down the left side of the field I knew it was Six. PS twenty years later I was at the NFC championship game against the 49 niners when Troy was knocked out of the game and Bernie Kosar came in and threw that little slant pass to Alvin Harper for the game winning TD just pure coincidence I got to witness two of the greatest comebacks by back up QB’s in Cowboy history, by the way as of this writing that was I think the championship game the Cowboys have won it was so long ago I had muscles a tan and a full head of hair back then. Lol.
People who went to Abilene Christian College know who the mad bomber is! My first year there was 75 , all the upperclassmen talked about Clint! I missed him by 1year, I did know Randall “Tex” Cobb! Who also went to now called Abilene Christian University , Tex went 15 rounds with heavyweight champion of the World Larry Holmes and when the final Bell Rang and the Smoke cleared Tex was still Standing!
I remember that game
The urban legend is that after Longley's football career completely imploded he could only find work selling carpet remnants from the back of a van
Good. Bad person
Did you notice that the Washington Cornerback seems to just quit against Pearson? I mean, he totally was man to man as slows down almost to a stop...WHY?
The Skins DB is probably thinking: "No way # 19 can get the ball to Drew... he's too deep, now."
I swear to god these Samsung commercials are getting annoying
they have been
Tony Romo #9hunnit #ScrambleGod The Clint Longley game. Romo u know if anyone does brother. Gonna miss you Tony Romo 😎 Big D
#HOFRomo
#CowboyGreat
Hitting the deep ball wasn't enough
Playing the hero to the fallen hero must've been a bit too much
But
Literally hitting the hero 🙄
Are you kidding me 😤
Thanx Longley for the memorable '74 Thanksgiving Day heroics vs the dreaded Foreskins
Same thing happened in Atlanta back in the 1970's. The Falcons were killing the Cowboys until Staubach was knocked out of the game (head shots on a quarterback were OK!!)!!!!!!! Danny White came in the second half and beat the Falcons - like they owed him money!!!!!!! Dallas won the game!!!!!!!
I think you are confusing two different playoff games versus the Falcons. There was a 1980 playoff game in Atlanta, Danny's first season as the starter. Roger was already retired. White played the whole game and led them to a great comeback by hitting Drew Pearson with two TDs in the last few minutes. However, there was a playoff in '78 against Atlanta at Texas Stadium that Dallas was losing that Roger got knocked out of and Danny came in and saved the game.
It's literally you don't touch Don Meredith, Rodger staubach, Danny White, Troy aikman and Tony Romo cause that's Cowboys royalty
That game won him a permanent job as the Cowboys' 2nd string quarterback. Had he just been patient (Staubach was already well into his 30s), he would have won the starting job after Staubach retired five years later. He chose to be a *punk* instead, and flushed a decade-plus career in the NFL down the toilet. Not too bright, Clint!
Not really. Danny White was with the team by then. Longley would have been third string at best.
Longley was jealous of Danny White when he came to the team in "76
Longley's star obviously shone bright
for a brief time, especially Thanksgiving '74, but
apparently something was not right with young Longley.
Things turned out well
for the Cowboys with the arrival and subsequent career of
the great athlete Danny White. Of course, as all Cowboy's fan know
White couldn't quite get Dallas to the ultimate NFL game, the
Super Bowl, getting very close several times. White was and still is a good guy, and
IMO, had a great career.
I hope Clint Longley is doing well and I wish him the best.🏈
@@t4texastom587 White was not the primary reason Dallas didn't make it to the Super Bowl. Quarterbacks can't play defense.
Dak....watch this clip!!!!!
Hell yes!!! Lol we better beat the skins an the eagirls lose then go from there. The coaching staff is bunk the players all the talented players we are loaded! 💯 bro
Clint "No Longley Welcome in Dallas" Longley.
Clintlongleysoneshiningmoment
Damn the dbs look like they were running in mud
Clint saved roger.
I was a diehard Redskins fan and still are. We were absolutely devastated and hated the Cowgirls even more. Still do lol
After George Allen retired, he and Tom Landry became good friends. Landry said Allen never got over that game. He brought it up every time they were together. “How could we lose?! We were two touchdowns ahead and we knocked Roger Staubach out of the game!” he would say.
8-)
1. Stand up straight. 2. Take it like a man. 3. Be nice to your sister. 4. Don’t drive on the railroad tracks. Oh yeah. And don’t hit Roger Staubach.
Mess with the Redskins , don't mess with Roger
And he was traded to the Chargers for #1 & #2. And Landry drafted TD. Boy the Chargers got hosed.
J B 😎👌
Tony Dorsett???
Wellch -yes.
Chris Longley Tx are you related?
Of course the vid doesn’t tell you he was highly recruited. He was hardly a nobody.
The Real kenny powers
Who's here because skip said this was best cowboys game?
Probably made good money at chargers
Hitting Roger Staubach while wearing the star. Not a great career decision.
Sorry meant Longley
Grandpa Colin brought me here. Herd.
Absolutely no way they can lose this game absolutely you no way. Blow Out Cowboys 41 0 if even close Jason. Garrett just walk off the field just walk off throw your clip board in the trash. Let's Go Cowboys
Anybody here because of Baker Mayfield beating the Raiders as a Ram after only 48 hours of being on the team??
Tho the "Redskins" moniker no longer exists and currently it's the "Washington Football Team" the uniform design and the colors remain intact .. it's still a great rivalry called "Dallas vs Washington", instead of the old "Cowboys vs Redskins".
Cowboys vs Commanders
What in the hell is a
comm-Ander
joe theisman "Who is that guy?" Well it wasn't Norman Einstein . . . .
I was six years old and wasn't really a fan of football until 2 years later so I don't remember this at all.
staubach started the fight. my cousin told me.
P Brickley no he just finished it... the second fight Longley walked up and sucker punched Staubach who went face first into a chair... by the time Roger came to, Longley was gone and hauled ass in his car
And Longley finished it!!!!!
Longley sucker punched him, and then ran like a girl.
Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson said in his auto-biography that Staubach attempted to go after Longley but was restrained by LB coach Jerry Tubbs. Staubach than started cussing up a storm, and I don't mean hell and damn. Henderson couldn't believe that Staubach uttered the F word. Longley was jealous of Danny White, who Roger had taken under his wing.
mkl62 Roger went to the hospital not Clint Longley and I'm a Cowboy for life!!!!
HALL OF SHAME, WHERE'S DREW PEARSON?
Not bad
Apparently Longley took after the Cowboy defense - cheap shotting Staubach in the locker room when Roger wasn't looking. I was also suprised to find out Staubach was a real jerk towards Craig Morton - pointing him out to reporters post-game and announcing that Morton's play was why the Cowboys lost that particular game. That's not what a real teammate does. That's what a child does.
Documentation for your claim Roger bad mouthed Craig Morton.

No! Never touch Roger Staubach
Kenny Powers
UN tell this day Dallas still owe the redskins briefly they did it in 1978 came from behind and beat the redskins and Prescott today own the redskins he is 8 & 1 against the redskins hell emitt smith own the redskins gaining a hundred yards or more when he plays against the redskins everytime everytime they played
Wasn't Danny White also the punter ?
Known for putting the ball in the corner near the 2 or 3 yardline routinely. As a quarterback, Danny went to 3 or 4 nfc championship games. He didn't quite make it into the superbowl. When his wrist was injured his career was over and that season they were rolling through the wins, plummeted after his injury.
Not in 1974
Also remember Staubach got his ass kicked big time.
Yessss!!!! 👊👊
Landry got tired of Longley’s antics with the snakes and his fitness. Longley got tired of Landry’s head games of bringing Danny White then getting Roger insinuating about snaps to Longley which started the fight. As much I want to weep for Roger when Landry pushed him out in favor of Danny, I don’t. However Landry’s head games started to deteriorate when he didn’t let Roger call his own plays
and him starting Gary Hogeboom over Danny White.
Huh??? Landry pushed out Staubach?? Where did you get that nonsense? 1979 was Roger's best year statistically. He went to Landry to tell him was going to retire and Landry tried to talk him out of it pointing out that 1979 was his best year ever.
@@NBLP7001 Staubach said "The system was successful before me, it's been successful with me in the '70s and it will be successful without me," during his retirement speech. He was frustrated for not being able to call his own plays and Tom Landry wanted nothing more than to win a championship in the 80's without Roger, similar to Belichek nowadays
The quality of NFL video/films content has crashed in the past 15 years. This was shallow junk thrown together in about 5 minutes.
Hate the Skins...best thing to happen to them next to Danny Synder.
Clint was drafted in 1974, Danny White in 1975. Roger took a liking to Danny and pretty much took him under his wing, which I'm sure made Clint jealous. During the 1976 training camp, Roger & Clint fought each other with Roger winning. Later on, Clint sucker punched Roger in the dressing room and bolted. Roger attempted to go after him but was restrained by LB coach Jerry Tubbs. Roger then started cussing up a storm, even shouting the F word. Yes, Roger Staubach said F'ing. Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson witnessed this and wrote about it in his auto-biography. He also said that Longley's hobby was catching rattlesnakes. Weird.
Longley had a moment to last a lifetime with Dallas fans and he ruined it by going after Roger Staubach. Longley had a strong arm, but terrible footwork when he threw the ball.
Roger squared up against him in a fair fight later and beat the poo 💩 out of him!
Wrong who went to the hospital 😅😅😅
@@tr3day366 Roger beat him down
I don’t remember anything about the hospital, maybe he went as a result of the sucker punch from behind. But once he got back he took him outside for a straight up fight and beat him up. Longley was traded away the next day and disappeared into obscurity!
@@iamlsusam cause you were not there homeboiii
@@tr3day366 I don’t get where you’re coming from. Are you a Longley relative or do you just hate Staubach?
