- Chapter 2: GT leaps forward as the industry catches up
After the huge success of the RTS, the rest of the bike industry was left frantically trying to catch up... but GT was already two steps ahead. Using feedback from highly talented GT Factory Racing athletes like Nico Vouilloz and Mike King for R&D, Jim Busby, and the engineers continued to push the boundaries of what suspension could do with the introduction of the LTS.

as a teenager growing up in Chile I used to follow my heroes (Brian Lopes, Mike King, Nico, Myles Rockwell and RIP Jason McRoy) through magazines and luckily catching some races on ESPN. I always wanted an RTS but it was way out of my parents budget but recently I purchased an RTS with serial number from June 1992 and I am restoring it. I also ride my GT marathon Team issue. Watching this video takes me back to these great memories as a kid. Thanks GT
We better get a full length documentary when these are all done. I will 100% pay for it. These are fantastic. Professionally done with all the legends. Goosebumps.
I love this! i was both an avid rider, mechanic and worked at a bike shop that sold GT as its flagship brand in the mid 90's. I had all the same magazines they showed and sold many of the bikes shown except a Lobo etc..
Guys and Gals , I still have my LTS 1000 in Carbon from 1998, basically Mint condition . cause i never went Crazy on it. People in Bike Shops or on the Road turning their Heads. You guys were years ahead of EVERYBODY. The XTR Shifters are as good as todays Industry Standard. Let me know if you at GT want to connect. Not sure if there are many still out there in Original Condition. GO TEAM GT. also very cool to see Hans Rey and Juli Furtado again , Much Love to the Legends
Was awesome seeing all of the designs I remember reading about for hours when I was a kid!!!!! Stopped mountain biking in 2001 and came back in 2016 and jumped immediately into DH.....man did things change 😅
Love this stuff man...! Been riding GT since the early 80’s....BRAND LOYALTY...by earning it through hard work...’nuff said!
My favorite memory of the LTS is when the Intense M1 came out and other teams were flocking to that bike as their own, the LTS was still carrying GT to the podium! I still ride and RACE my 96' LTS occasionally!
Only problem with the LTS was BRAKE JACK,TERRIBLE. The I-Drive was Jim Busbys Best Design EVER !!! I've had the RTS,LTS,4 I-DRIVE'S And Yes,the Carbon STS... THE BESTOF TIMES 🤔 🤟👀
I put Fox Piggyback Shocks that I got from Dave Turner's, TURNER BURNER D/H Bike on the I-Drive's...Night and Day Difference! Most came with HODAKA Brand Shocks... Yes that HODAKA. 1960's Dirt Bikes. 🤟👀
Still own and ride my beloved GT LTS 1000 DS !
Straight pure lean innovation process.
And then you hear "Yeah, those frame broke a lot"... pfff look at the year they where made, pushing the limits of tech at that time.
Got three thermoplastics, one STS-DH, one STS-1 and one LTS. Love'em love the design perhaps one of the most beautiful designs ever.
Good to see GT look backwards in order to go forwards again, about time.
Love this series, SO interesting!! I miss my RTS 3.
Superb video about GT , well done .
GT Forever GT Forever GT amazing. Loooove
Kickass video dudes!
Thanks for checking it out! Glad you dig it. 🤙
@@GTBicycles1 Dude, why wouldnt i check it out, seeing as i ride a 1999 zaskar as my main bike
I was hanging out at the Busby racecar shop Laguna canyon at this time working on David Busbys Alcohol dragster. And David's brother asked me If I could do wheelies on a bike he had built.I was videoed wheeling over 2x4s in the parking lot, which I beleive was what he showed GT.It was the LTS.Pretty good times compared to now😢
Loving this series!
Nice as always 👍👍👍
been wanting my dads lts since i was a kid, now its mine
My LTS got stolen grrrrrrrrr. Been looking at the GT force the new LTS ish just hope the suspension works as good as the old LTS or better ;)
Man, a lot of subtle ragging on ProFlex. I had a 755 and it was extremely rideable. Sure, the front fork squeaked like mad, but it was stable. Unshielded urethane...not a long lasting idea, but it did work when it was fresh. I also sold GT bikes during the LTS/ i-Drive era. Sold a few of those suckers, but it was still a hard sell against the classic horst link 4 bar. Zaskar sold well, but the idrive...not so much.
Bring back the A.O.S.
Correction about my Comment i wrote LTS 1000 , but is actually the STS 1000 in Carbon. the Decals came of long time ago ;)
Why there is no tri bike ? Your bike is very good, from road bike to mountain bike and bmx
🤟😎👍
A little skewed view of the time. GT had the bigger budget compared to other companies. San Andreas cycles, Foes, & Outland VPP were just as or more critical to full suspension mountain bikes of that era.
Did I miss something or did they just pretend they invented that? Specialized did but GT did it better.
Funny how much bull shit this video is, yes may have been better at the time, but LTS design was flawed, I still have a LTS but retro is so much fashion over function, the therno plastic even put GT out of business, strange how make it sound so good!
