Love to crochet with paper, probably 25 to 30 years ago I would crochet around pictures of greeting cards and make tree decorations from them. Now I still do a bit of for my journals. I make coin flowers and button flowers. Also do up tiny mini dresses which as so cute! I like how you just crochet on a little bit of your items, looks nice.
Emily that is absolutely awesome. My eyesight isn't good enough anymore to use that thin thread. I appreciate you sharing how to do this. Blessings and Hugs 🤗
Thanks for reminding me about this. About a million years ago (o.k., maybe 40 years) I used to cut petal-shapes from recycled xmas cards and then crochet them together into baskets which I put handmade cookies into for the holidays. Now I make JJ so I'm going to use this technique on pages, embellishments, and pockets. Thanks for sharing a great idea!
Oh Wow Emily! I love this great idea!! These are so Gorgeous! I’ll have to get my Crochet needle out tomorrow! TFS!!! Big Hugs & Blessings!! Thanks for the inspiration! Prayers for your puppy. ❤️🥰🙏
These are beautiful! I will have to go and review the crochet tutorial as I haven't crocheted for 35 yrs! Now I know a blanket stitch as well! Thanks for sharing!
How absolutely cute and fantastic!!!! Never even crossed my mind to crotchet on my card. I done those little scissors, so pretty. Thank you for the inspiration - off to crotchet EVERYTHING.
I have been crocheting for over 50 yrs & you taught me about sewing a blanket stitch & then crocheting on that stitch...so you do not tear your paper. Awesome video. Thank you so much!!
This is very creative! To take something out of the paper world and add to it is fun and pretty! I can crochet so I thank you for sharing this amazing technique. Joyce :)
I love the look of these! I have done some of this and love your idea of doing the blanket stitch first! I've always done it with the crochet hook and I prefer the more delicate look of the blanket stitch on these. Thanks for sharing this!
Jamie Denton thank you! This is the first time I’ve actually used those holes lol! Very handy for this! That’s my favorite ruler for lots of reasons ❤️
This is so beautiful! Can't wait to TRY, lol to do this. I can manage a single and double stitch at least. These will really jazz up my junk journals if I figure it out. Thanks for sharing.
This just popped up in my feed. LOVE IT! For your arthritis, try using those rubber finger covers on your thumb and index finger. (office workers use them to help them turn paper pages quickly) They will help you pull your needle through without having to squeeze so hard.
This is a beautiful way to embellish. You are a better teacher than you think you are. I really enjoyed this video. I crochet, too. So, this isn't totally foreign to me. But, I am going to leave the fancy stitching to others, I think. Take care!
I love this! I crochet & knit, & I'm very inspired by this video & can't wait to add this to my journals. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Hugs from Ireland.
June Nicholls thank you, June! I meant to look up the conversions before I filmed. Alas, I forgot lol! I took a year and a half completely off from crocheting, and now I can manage it in very small increments. The crochet thread is definitely more of a struggle, but it looks so darn cute lol! Hugs!
Wow! Looks complicated lol. Guess I need to watch the “basic” video. These are very pretty and you are very talented!! TYFS! Oh....I wanted to say...I think it would be fun to add some small beads to the blanket stitch part. Anyway...this video has a few wheels turning lol. ❤️🦋💜
I think it is a beautiful way to embellish things for your journals etc, maybe another shell on the top of the two (if you know what i mean...lol) thanks for the video Emily xo
Diane Duncan oh, yes! I know what you mean! I’ll try that! I wish I had thought it through better for the video. I feel like a doofus 🤣 thank you for the advice! Hugs!
Great inspiration... I have crocheted so much in my past and then I began having issues with my fingers too, but a little crochet here and there is a wonderful option! TFS!
About a year ago I used your tutorial to do a circle and a journal with crochet edges. I loved the way it looked! So I am finally making a journal for me and using a bee and floral theme so looked up you video again an watched again to refresh my memory and did a small tag. 30:23 0
I hope you won’t feel so down on yourself, I think your great for one and also I am truly inspired in a wonderful way and can’t wait to find all the things I need to start crocheting on paper ! Thank you so much for getting through this video even though I think your hands were hurting you, I’m so sorry. This is the first I’ve seen of your videos and will love to now find more of you to watch and learn from. Tami Clutter
When I was younger my Nana tried to teach me to crochet but gave up declaring I was a hopeless case. A couple of years ago I taught myself the very basics (thanks YT) and was able to crochet a really bad doilly LOL. Thank you for inspiring me to pick up the crochet hook again to rediscover how bad I still am, but at least willing to give it a go. Not sure I will be including any crochet in any of my junk journals any time soon, but maybe in a few years LOL.
Apologies my husband is logged on... I love crochet as well. I love the edge you have put on your cards. I like to include sewing/crochet in my Journals. x Blessings x Mariana UK xx
Hi Emily. I have a suggestion which may, or may not help, and of course, we all learn differently and do what works for us. I have arthritis too and had to give up some hobbies as well. I have learned to try to save movements with certain things to save my hands. When I learned blanket stitch, I learned by holding my holes to the side, not top or bottom like you’ve done in your videos. Holding the holes on the right side, you can save movement by putting the thread through the hole, and through the loop as you come through the hole. I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s less movements. Also, if you wear a little rubber finger thingy (Clover has them), it helps pull the needle through without putting so much stress on the fingers. I have bad arthritis in my thumbs, and the pinching motion is killer! I love to hand stitch though, and saw Rachel (Roxycreations) use one and ordered immediately from Amazon and it helps soooo much! Hope you don’t mind the suggestions and hope maybe one of them will help. Big hugs! 🤗 Just remembered one more thing, which I don’t do but you may want to try. Someone told me once to hold the crochet hook like a spoon instead of how you (and I) hold it. It takes some getting used to! As I said, I don’t do that but have when I’ve crocheted enough to make my hands hurt.
Martha Manigross thank you so much for all of your suggestions! I will definitely try holding the holes to the side! I’ll try anything for less pain 😊 I’ve tried to spoon hold when crocheting, and I can not make it work for me. But, again, I always love to get tips and suggestions to make crafting easier and more fun ❤️❤️ Big hugs!
It's been a while since I did hand stitching but I think that if you sew FROM RIGHT TO LEFT (instead of left to right) on the blanket stitch, you can hold the loose thread towards you so that the needle comes up inside the loop so you don't have to take the time to put the needle through the loop in a separate move. Not sure how to explain this without showing you, but give it a try and see if it works for you. Love the items you made!
I love to crochet as well. I too have arthritis on my right hand and since I'm right handed, it's hard for me to crochet as well. I've crochet a few ephemeras and put them away. Thanks for reminding me of them. I think I'll do some more. Thank you for sharing. GOD Bless and be safe. P.S. I take an Aleve 1/2 hour before I crochet. Most of the time it helps me. Maybe it'll help you too.
Sissy Moss I can do Tunisian crochet without too much pain. And it’s very mindless. I can do it while watching TV. It helps with my anxiety 😊 I’m so glad you are able to knit ❤️❤️
Love the tutorial. informative and I love the fact that you showed what you did up close. As a side note, I would love to know more about the "Danglies" on that glue bottle. Did you make them?😍
Thank you, Karen! I did but make the danglies, but you can find crafters who do on Etsy. Just search glue bottle pin. Unfortunately, I’m awful at fiddly stuff like beads and crocheting now. My hands have gotten much worse since this video was made. 🥰🥰
That is just beautiful Emily! I don’t crochet but love the look. Do you think it would be a close duplicate if I took some thin crocheted trim and just hand stitched it to the paper edge..somewhat like the blanket stitch? I might give it a try. Thank you so much for the idea.
Cara Mia's Corner thank you! They are from Amazon! They are new and not very pricey. If you follow the link to some of my favorite supplies in my description you’ll find a link to them. Hugs!
Well that is awesome. You went a little too fast and off camera but I think I got enough to duplicate. I haven’t crochet since I was a little girl. My mom’s step mom taught me how. Like you I have arthritis in my hands and would need to find a comfortable needle. I like the shape of your wood handle.
Melinda Wiley oh, I’m so sorry I was out of frame and too fast. If you need a redo, I’d be glad to do it 😊 The wood handle is definitely better than just the steel hook. My hands can’t handle the tiny hooks anymore. I hope you have fun giving it a try! Hugs!
Emmephemera's Treasures oh no need to redo unless you are getting more requests to do so. It’s a basic stitch and easy enough but thank you for offering. 🤗💜
I may do that at some point. With arthritis, I’m never sure if I’ll be able to crochet or not. I’d like to make more items like this. I will put it on my to do list and try to get some pieces listed soon. Thank you Joan 😊🤗❤️
By soaking my hands hot Epsom salt water, hot as you can stand without burning yourself.Rince, dry then rub them with aspercream.wave hands in the air so not sticky.Wrists, elbows, neck and across your chest, above your breast.See if that doesn't make a difference.if convenient do it again I've had Arthur's for prb 30 yrs now and I'm still crocheting.
If your thread won't go through the head ofyour needle, turn the needlel head around just about every needle has a burr on it.If your needle won't go through the material run the needle through your hair carefully don't stab your head .see if those tricks don't help.
wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome! 🥰

Big hugs! 🤗
