After the song was released on the album, they decided to use it for the Broadway show. In the show, the song is sung twice. The first is sung from Mufassa to Simba. Mufassa sings "They live in You" referring to the Great Kings of the past. The second time the song is sung, many years after Mufassa's death, Rafikki tells Simba that Mufassa's spirit lives on. Rafikki then sings "He Lives in You" with the "he" referring to Mufassa. Mufassa then appears before Simba as he does in the movie. After the success of the song in the Broadway version, they decided to use it again for the intro to The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. It's pretty much a shorter version of the initial recording from "Rhythm of the Pridelands." While it works well enough for the opening of the movie, I don't think it's nearly as emotionally powerful as it is in the Broadway version.
What a pity that because Simba's pride was direct to video this song and Turner singing it didn't get the same recognition that Elton John did for the amazing original score. This song is fantastic
