My Granddad took me to see this when it first came out. I was about eight years of age; I was bowled over by it. When we got home, Nan asked 'Was it any good?' 'Granddad (born in 1892) said flatly 'A bit far-fetched'.
Random facts: This Movie introduced the Ford Mustang. Odd Job was Pro Wrestler Heel Harold Sakata who was apparently a really nice guy in real life. They did a parody of Odd Job in Austin Powers: Random Task. The Actor who played Random Task is currently serving life in prison for Murder. Honor Blackman who plays Pussy Galore had to leave a hit British TV show (The Avengers) to do this movie. Pussy Galore was parodied as Alotta Fagina in Austin Powers.
Classic bond movie on so many levels. Great music, theme, story, gadgets...etc. Oddjob (and Jaws) are the best henchmen. Hence their appearance in Goldeneye 64 splitscreen.
I was 13 years old when Goldfinger was released. The sexiness of the movied caused my Mom to refulse to take me to the nearest theater to see it. So, my buddy Russ and I each told our Mom's we were going over to each other's house, and we both walked about two miles and anxiously waited in line to buy tickets, thinking we might be told we were too young to allowed tickets. Turns out, our money wasn't too young. Everything in Goldfinger worked for me. I love this movie! To my 13-yr. old brain, it was highly realistic. Walking home after dark on the shoulder of a two-land blacktop road, some guy in a Corvette, doing about 90-mph, zoomed past us . The passenger side mirror brushed against Russ's jeans. We figured we could have been murdalized, with no possible expanation for what we were doing walking on the shoulder of 14 Mile Rd. after dark. Starting with Thunderball, more and more about the Bond series no longer worked for me, until the movies all began to look like goofy parodies of Goldfinger, which will always, in my mind, be the sweet spot for Bond movies, balancing the fantastic with the real world, and having the most gorgeous girls, most perfect villians, the best fight scenes, and the most fiery electrocutions.
There's a really old Blind Wave reaction where Eric and Shane watch the "James Bond vs Austin Powers" Epic Rap Battle. That has a line in it where Austin says to Connery's Bond "you are a bit rapey". I think back to that during that scene in the barn.
If I remember correctly, Galore really changes sides when Tilly is killed... in the book both Tilly and Bond are kept prisoner and Tilly starts a relationship with Galore. The barn scene has always been the most criticized scene in the movie. Galore plays better here though than the book, however. In the novel she is stated as being gay outright (no implying or signaling) but Fleming had views on homosexuality that were criticized even in his time. He held the opinion that homosexuals were "reacting to a trauma" and could be "fixed"... which is what happens with Galore in the book at the very end.
Do you know this for a fact, that Fleming thought this about homosexuals? One of Fleming’s longest friendships was with Noel Coward, who never hid his homosexuality with his close friends. I think if homosexuality had bothered Fleming as much as you claim it did, he would have distanced himself from the playwright, especially after writing the Bond novels had made him famous and a public figure.
@@andrewroberts299He wrote in a letter in 1959 to someone objecting to the way he wrote about that she "only needed the right man to come along and perform the laying on of hands in order to cure her psycho-pathological malady." So, yes.
This movie has so many classic lines. Many people consider it their favorite of the franchise. I don't think I'd rank it *that* high, but it's definitely enjoyable. I am very, very excited for "Thunderball".
Goldfinger basically perfected the Bond formula. To the point where supposedly more down to earth and less gadget laden films that came later still retained a high level of fantasy and camp.
If you get around to watching Quantum of Solace, they homaged the gold paint scene in the movie except the girl was covered in oil. It took me a second viewing to get the reference.
Here is another amazing fact about “Goldfinger”. German actor, Gert Frobe, who portrayed Goldinger was a popular actor that frequently appeared in movies filmed in London. What is amazing about Gert Frobe is he did not speak English, despite portraying so many characters that spoke fluent English.
In the novel they actually rob Fort Knox with the help of the criminals and their men. However, Goldfinger has them lined up as fall guys to be caught while he gets away with his share. He was also working as moneymaker for the Russians. Operation Grand Slam was supposed to be his last mission in the West. But I guess that would have been too expensive to film. Apparently Gerd Fröbe (Goldfinger) did not speak English at the time. He got the lines through an earpiece. that you don't notice it is a testament to his acting skill.
I love the Bond movies in this era because of product placement. They make them seem more realistic and in this world. That was when companies paid to have their products in movies, whereas now they want to get paid to have them. There was even a special edition model of a car in Diamonds are Forever, which was used in the movie and a Hertz exclusive rental car...
I don't know if I have a favorite Bond villain, but Goldfinger is a perfect Bond villain. His plan is legitimately smart, still theatrical without being some grand world ending scheme, and he's a great balance of over the top whilst also not being so outwardly villainous to where he doesn't blend in. Plus he's got a lot more time interacting with Bond than a lot of other villains in the series do, I love the moment where Bond is working out his plan and Goldfinger just sits back proudly, letting him work it out, to where once he does even Bond can't deny the supposed genius of his plan.
I know Archer had been on a few polls recently. I hope after you finish james Bond, you watch that. The more content you watch, the better archer gets, and a major boost to archer is definitely knowing the james Bond series.

@@karlmortoniv2951 in the book, Goldfinger would paint Jill in gold but leave her spine to waist uncovered. Oddjob painted her fully. Strawberry Fields got the same treatment in Quantum of Solace, but in crude. Geishas and concubines painted themselves. As did Elizabeth.

36:50 you have 30 minutes to move your car, you have 20 minutes to move your car. Your car has been impounded. Your car has been turned into a cube. You have 30 minutes to move your cube
Fun fact 1: This movie is actually considered better than the book. Largely because they changed his evil scheme. In the book, Goldfinger wanted to rob Fort Knox, but that plan is unfeasible because it would take weeks and he'd have less than two hours before the US military arrives. His scheme in the movie is actually feasible (for 1964 at least. Today it wouldn't work since gold is no longer necessary to back up banknotes). Fun Fact 2: The guy playing Bond's caddie during the golf game is actually just a random Bond fan.
Sorry, but your fun fact No. 2 is wrong. Bond’s caddie was played by an Irish actor, Gerry Duggan, who before and after his appearance in Goldfinger, had a long career in movies and television, both in the UK, USA and Australia. Who on Earth gave you this information?
If you are planning on doing the whole run, I hope you can attempt to keep track of the directors of each movie. The guy who directed the first two, Terence Young took a break for this one and then returned. While the guy who directed Goldfinger, Guy Hamilton would take a break as well and return to direct a few in the 70's. If you can keep track, then you'll probably notice similarities in their movies.
Goldfinger is a classic for sure. The next movie Thunderball is actually my favorite, I feel it was the first to have every classic Bond trope in one movie. But From Russia With Love is the 'best' movie on a movie level, and Goldfinger is the best Bond movie for Connery's run.
Everything that was actually cool about the late 50s early 60s is included in Goldfinger. It is absolutely phenomenal. But all I can think about is how damn good the chicken probably was in the KFC Leiter walks out of.
4:13 If my memory serves me right, the assassin Bond despatches at the beginning of the film, is, in real life, a famous British stuntman called Alf Joint. Alf Joint was the Bondesque character in the first few opening gun barrel sequences during the opening credits.
The bomb stops at 007, because a fan thought that was cooler, so they changed it. It used to be 003. And sean connery still says 3 more clicks and goldfinger would have hit the jackpot.😊
‘ those scenes‘ as you called them were perfectly normal up to about 10 years ago, we can only look at things in context.… In the last five years my view on society has changed so massively it’s unbelievable, how we live and how I remembered we lived
Shirley Eaton (Jill the golden girl) was very well known for British comedy movies such as carry on nurse before she starred in goldfinger.great reaction guys
In some prints of the film the bomb was switched off at 003 seconds, hence Bond saying, “three more ticks and Mr. Goldfinger would have hit the jackpot!”
I love Goldfinger, dude is filthy stinking rich, he's about to become even richer by nuking Ft. Knox and yet he takes the time to cheat at cards and golf as well
Watching Goldfinger is crucial to getting all of the Goldmember jokes & references. E.G Alotta Vagina is obviously a homage to Pussy Galore. Same with Random Task 😆 as the analogue of Oddjob. Goldfinger is phenomenal as most Bond films are. There are so many good ones: Thunderball. Diamonds are Forever. Live & Let Die. Moonraker. Octopussy. For Your Eyes Only but the best outside of Goldfinger is The Spy Who Loved me. While I love Sean Connery’s Bond I grew up with Roger Moore. The best Bonds are Roger Moore, Sean Connery & Daniel Craig. RIP to the legends Roger Moore & Sean Connery. Great reaction as usual. You guys definitely have to do more Bond reactions🙂👍

Strawberry Fields got the same treatment in Quantum of Solace, but in crude.
Geishas and concubines painted themselves. As did Elizabeth.
I recently bought and constructed the Lego set of the Aston Martin car from the 007 movies but the minifigure looks like Daniel Craig and it comes w/ several pieces so you can change the license plate though i hate dealing w/ stickers so i didn't do all of them.
Nice! I recently acquired the Eaglemoss 1:8 scale Goldfinger Aston Martin DB5.
My first taste of James Bond was when I was a kid. Dad took us to a drive-in and we watched a double feature. Gold Finger and Thunderball
Harold Sakata who played Oddjob had won a silver medal for the United States at the 1948 Olympics in weightlifting.
1964 was a good year. The Beatles and “Goldfinger”.
Y’all I’m a lifelong James Bond fan. It’s been fun watching the reactions. Hope you keep with it.
36:50 you have 30 minutes to move your car, you have 20 minutes to move your car. Your car has been impounded. Your car has been turned into a cube. You have 30 minutes to move your cube
I was just thinking tester that it’s been ages since you guys reacted to the last Bond film and here we are.
Gerd Fröbe who played Goldginger didn’t speak any English but instead just memorised his lines. I always thought that was a cool factoid
You guys need to do more James Bond's reactions.
Harold Sakata ( Oddjob) actually Did Wrestling as a Wrestler named Tosh Togo
20:09 A.G. stands for Aktiengesellschaft, it means that it is publicly traded
"Do you expect me to talk?"
"No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to cry like a beeeeeeeeeeatch."
God I miss these kinds of movies.
A.G. stands for Aktiengesellschaft, which is German for Share based Company, so basically a company that is traded on the stock market.
Why did it blow up when it hit the water? At that speed, hitting water would be like hitting concrete.
Oddjob is very close to the top of the Bond Villain Henchmen list, only one other surpasses him.
I love the caddy. "We got him now sir." He's like a Simpson's character.
Finally!
I have been been waiting for this reaction
4:13 If my memory serves me right, the assassin Bond despatches at the beginning of the film, is, in real life, a famous British stuntman called Alf Joint. Alf Joint was the Bondesque character in the first few opening gun barrel sequences during the opening credits.
13:15 was just about to comment that😂😂😂
The bomb stops at 007, because a fan thought that was cooler, so they changed it.
Love these Bond reactions, you can see the changes through the decades in the films. Craig is probably my fav bond though.
Sean’s best - in my Top 5 Bond films ❤
The plane blowing up on hitting the water is entirely accurate: at any real speed, hitting water is like hitting concrete.
GREAT INTRO!
GOAT Bond movie
Shirley Eaton (Jill the golden girl) was very well known for British comedy movies such as carry on nurse before she starred in goldfinger.great reaction guys
Love these reactions!! Hope we get to see reactions to all 25 films! One of my favorite filmseries
I think they'll have finished Naruto by the time we get all the way to modern Bond, but I'm actually up for that LOL
Took me years to question why Goldfinger monologs his whole plot to a group he was going to kill anyway.
His mania ?
When can we expect the Thunderball reaction?
At this pace probably in 2025
Did you notice how many seconds were left on the bomb? 007 seconds.
In some prints of the film the bomb was switched off at 003 seconds, hence Bond saying, “three more ticks and Mr. Goldfinger would have hit the jackpot!”
Today we learned that plastic explosive was created by frenchman, and golf was invented by scottsman. Calvin doesnt dissapoint.
PLEASE do 1 James Bond movie a month !!!!
I love Goldfinger, dude is filthy stinking rich, he's about to become even richer by nuking Ft. Knox and yet he takes the time to cheat at cards and golf as well
Awesome reaction! Already can’t wait for Thunderball !
🤣😂I love your videos... the commentary is hilarious.
In the final Bond Oddjob fight scene Harold Sakata actually hurt Sean Connery because he hit him too hard !
"Thish ish no time to be reshcued!"
If you ever played the 1980's arcade game Spyhunter, the car had the exact armament of the DB.5 from this film. Plus a spike caltrop dropper.
The plan Bond 'thinks' Goldfinger is going to pull off is really the plot of Die Hard 3.
The Sneaker Pimps sampled the soundtrack for their hit "6 Underground"
Everybody loves the powder blue terrycloth romper
