I'll give it in a nutshell - Mynamar is a basket base since it got its independence in the 1960's and still running the country via the military, vs Thailand who is the best out of the 4 financially but still plagued with corruption, vs Vietnam who comes in second best but still run by a Commie govt so will never progress far, vs Cambodia which is still a basket case since the Commies took over in the 70's and never recovered from the Pol Pot regime. It is still regarded as the poorest country in SE Asia.

Vietnam fought a war against france, america, china and the khmer rouge until 1979, and Vietnam was embargoed by the america until 1994.
Well, If you travel to Vietnam now, you will see that this country has changed a lot compared to 20 years ago.
So don't think that Vietnam's Communism is the same as the Communism of some other countries (a typical example is North Korea)

I can tell you that you want to be East Asian so bad 🤣 but Japanese, Korea, Chinese didn't see Vietnamese like that. More than that Thailand and Laos didn't have only 1 Ethnicity. Many Karen, Arka, Hmong, Tai/Dai, Khmer, Malay, Mon live in Thailand and Laos for century not just Mon and Khmer.
For Vietnamese wanna be Han Chinese. the han chinese as a whole is very different genetically to Vietnamese. There may be some link between far southern Chinese like cantonese and Vietnamese. Most Cantonese are mixture of northern Chinese father and yue mother.
The general Chinese population which include northern Chinese, central Chinese and eastern Chinese are very different ethnically to Vietnamese. The Chinese people from northern, central and eastern regions look much more “northern” , especially northern Chinese. These Chinese might be mixed with Manchurian, Mongolian, xianbei,xiongnu, jurchen.

Banh cheo is not an original Cambodian food. Banh Xeo was invented in Central Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty, far away from Cambodia. It's was brought over from Vietnamese vendors. Cambodian food is not yummy, so Cambodians have to steal delicious recipes from Vietnam.. What a shame.
