The “microscopic decay” needs to be specifically explained as the digestive process of yet another life form consuming the sugar and urinating alcohol until they either starve to death (a dry wine) or poison themselves in their own waste products first (a sweet wine).

I love this a great deal, and it will surely provide incredibly valuable information. Thank you. However, describing grapefruits as sherbet flavor constitutes almost criminal misleading of a curious alien. No one, not on this earth, or any other sapient species, should have to endure eating a grapefruit.
