Hello dear Adam.Well, have spent many many hours over a good two weeks scouting out various bushes / rivers here in North Bay Ontario Canada... and nothing. We lost all most all of our Elms a few years back due to disease. Searching amongst Tulip tree / apple tree. Nothing. Thought the hunt has been awesome - just being out in the bush. Cheers and ty for sharing with us.

Hey, that's okay! Like you said, you still spent a lot of time outdoors... and it's hard to beat those experiences! Last year (2016) I didn't not have a successful Morel season. Some years are better than others. Plenty of other edible species will be popping up throughout the rest of the year, and I'm sure you'll have lots of luck with them. Morel Mushroom hunting has always been a big thing in NW Missouri. I recall growing up we'd hunt them every spring. As kids we were told mushrooms had absolutely no nutritional value and every mushroom besides Morels were toadstools and so were poisonous. Had I only known.
Looking up what the trees look like where various mushrooms grow. Trying to get ready in another 6- to 8- weeks, in late April morels will be popping up when conditions are right.
When I find one morel, I'll stop and sit down. Usually, more are within sight if you don't walk away.

True story, my wife and I have been harvesting Morels for three years now. Year one we consumed nearly 200 total, last year around 20 or so (a bad season here) but this year we harvested a few on two separate occasions and my wife began vomiting violently within two hours on both occasions. The second time it was only one small Morel. These were prepared correctly, were not Verpas or Gyromitras, and no alcohol was consumed. Upon researching this and asking around several mushroom groups I was startled to discover that some people have actually developed an allergy to Morels Iver time. One in particular at 70 years old after over 40 years of consuming them. Ironically there have been no signs of allergies with portobellos, or shiitakes, and I'm curious to see if any other species I harvest during the summer/fall months have the same effect.
