  • With the looming threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods entering the country, what could a consumer push to buy homegrown products look like on your next trip to the grocery store?

    Uhm, that is not how tariffs work. It is the AMERICANS that will pay a 25% Tariff on CANADIAN products in the USA. The Canadian government has not yet indicated that they will introduce a retaliatory tariff on American products sold in Canada, although they probably should. You should always buy Canadian anyways, to support nationalism. I am surprised this news channel released this misinformation and all these people fell for it. After COVID people have really lost their sense of reasoning...

    • @johnnyblazey
      @johnnyblazey 8 дней назад

      @maggypregnolato5517 it will be tough regardless but try not to panick - budgeting early/ inadvance mentally and/or physically would suffice, if not already incorporated in everyday lifestyle.
      Register at local foodbank(s), many churches have hot lunches, dinners, etc. but the cost of living ingeneral (as you had already mentioned), will go up.
      Due to that and also to stablize the mental Mind of All Canadians, wages and supports will have to increase as well for balance, stability, eqUalibrium of family needs...just like when there are price-hikes thru the years, wages increase to 'try to help prevent' collapse.
      If you can save a little bit of money each month (depends on currency input of household/ single, over time), purchase a portable agriculture vegatable growing machine/ start growing your own vegetables and/herbs, either as a primary/ secondary food source...indoor gardening.
      Also shopping local/ as others mentioned, adjust diet (first consult w/ your family doctor, dietian, nutritionist for healtb options and rezources) and buy Canadian.
      Eitber way, we'll all have too adjust mentally, physically, spiritually, fianancially, and modt importantly, socially...amongst ourselves and each otber as Family takes care of Family, tbe hUman Family but in our 'immediate' case, the Canadian Family (for connection, food, the cost of living, etc.) but also otbers that are in Canada from elsewhere and everyone elsewhere b/c We as in hUmans are All the Same at 'default,' regardless.

    • @ToPrepareHisWay
      @ToPrepareHisWay 6 дней назад

      Exactly. Tariffs hurt the consumer buying power within the country imposing the import taxes. If Canadian exporters want to keep their sales up in the United States then they are going to have to make sure that the quality is good enough to justify the higher price for American consumers. But the price of lettuce in Canada will go up IF the Canadian government decides to impose an import tariff on U.S. lettuce.

    What I want to know is, who is responsible for deciding on what products are sourced for our stores. Is it the companies buyers? How can buyers and suppliers come together inside our borders to start providing more affordable "local" options. I truly don't know how it works but have pondered this for years. Why it costs less to transport from further away than to buy closer to home. I think it should be a motivation for the owners of the big stores, even without this mess going on. The insanity of pumping out fuel emissions to move goods all over the world, while also shipping our garbage elsewhere when we're done with it. Having it end up in third world countries landfills where they're even less able to process it than we are. Just because it's all cheaper that way. So much for climate awareness

    As if the US is going to care about a few people boycotting their products. The increase in cost will make it an involuntary boycott since most people don’t have any room left in their budget for increases in the cost of food. Those prices are increasing as our dollar loses value against the US dollar and a trade war isn’t going to help. The aid package the government is planning will lead to a rise in inflation and an increase in our debt while accomplishing nothing. Just think about how much more secure our border would be if that aid money was spent on securing the border. Trudeau had planned 1.3 billion to secure the border and that was going to be spread out over three years yet he is ready to spend tens of billions on an aid package for businesses and people effected by the tariffs. If the same amount was spent on securing the border and the equipment needed to do the job was purchased from the US Trump would be happy, the border would be more secure and we would have the equipment instead just more debt and inflation.

    It all depends how the Canadian govt reacts. If the US puts 25% tariffs on all products from Canada going into the US that has nothing to do with Canadians. The US company importing the product will pay the tariff and pass that cost onto their US customers. It won't effect any products in Canada at all.
    If however the Canadian govt retaliates with tariffs on US products then it will have an effect on pricing inside Canada. However so far Canada govt has said it wouldn't be an across the board tariff like Trump is proposing. It would be on selected items that Canadian can easier switch to alternatives- example tariff US oranges then either substitute for a different fruit or source it from a different country. Canada govt is also proposing other ways to retaliate like cutting off power supply and oil. This could hurt Canadians by reducing the demand thereby reducing labour/ jobs but it would effect the US more (they can't run have the north eastern states with no power).

    So sad to see US blackmailing poor Canada again ! In the EU we have like national stickers on products, but we have such a large domestic market to begin with. We of course do not import lower quality food from the US. Only UK what is closest but its out marketed by our great EU products. Food from outside EU is minimal and in special sections of shops. I think outside 🍁 sirop we don’t really have something from Canada… Food from US is also minimal because it does not meet the EU regulations on food security. For Canadians , try to support local businesses! Support Canada❤ 🇨🇦

    Why r’nt you ppl complaining about the price of gas going up as well as everything else going up by your govt? They increase things here on a regular basis and i dont hear folks whining about that. If prices r going up, it shouldn’t matter who is increasing them it is still a heart-ship. It is expensive to live here!!! Why is that?
