I've been a fan for a while, but your "delivering your load..." line makes you a legend. Great work here, favorite gaming channel person.

Excellent timing, I was just about to search for a review of this game when the video showed up in my feed. Cheers!

I'm a bit of a components tart. I would never have bothered with the original Brass but Roxley really buttered my parsnips with their updated version and I now have both Lancashire (with pointless, but lovely clay tiles) and Birmingham. It can be a fiddle to get started but I find the game to be just about the ideal weight for what I would call a "complex" game. It's tough but not to the degree that it leaves me losing the will to live after hours of fruitless toil and fuck all outcome.

Yes! Snarky, honest, brutal and funny. Another classic. The review, that is.

I like that the element of luck is very limited and that with the 6 possible actions and a generous hand of 8 cards, there is almost always something useful to do, you only have to find it. It is clear that the game was designed to reduce the number of episodes where you have no good options like in some other games. Usually there are several good options, and the art is to find the ones that optimize your game and which order is the best.
You can even increase the difficulty by reducing the player's hand to 6 cards instead of 8.
it's true that there isn't much point to put level 7 and 8 manufactures on the players' boards.

I couldn't agree more with your thoughts on the overbuilding mechanic. Don't even teach it to new players. Another wicked review. Keep up the good work!

I also prefer Lancashire to Birmingham. Both got the lovely makeover, and Lancashire has less rules and plays faster. If I ever played Lanc to death, I could maybe see graduating to Birm. Also, I enjoy the card draw of the game. It is like the game hands you lemons and tells you to figure out how to make lemonade out of it. The other players are usually having just as hard a time of it, too.

Absolutely wonderful game. Was a brain burner to learn for us but me and my other half persevered and now it's our favourite game by a distance.
It's complex enough to keep things interesting and rewarding but not too complex that you feel overwhelmed. Theme is fantastic, pacing is tight, beautiful balance of tactics and strategy. Absolutely top game.
Oh the review wasn't too bad either. I disagree with the wild card action being a waste; it forces players to push for key locations knowing you can take them next turn and if they don't you get your pick of the board. Scouting is sometimes a loss of tempo, other times it's a fantastic investment.

I was a fan of the “stuffy and visually unappealing” original back in the day, but would never get it to the table with the current group, so no point in buying the new generation now.
Your script and delivery is better than ever.

I think you said the latter but just making sure before I buy as I value your opinion. By the way is ham the food pronounced UM over there "what's for supper Mum? where having UM dear!" -Take care

It's short and easy. Never had any problems or confusions. Also, having a runaway leader is not a problem if it was achieved through good tactical/strategic decisions. I hate artificial catch-up mechanics. Let good players be good.

    Anti First. (They annoy me.)
Edit: I really enjoy this game. Unfortunately, everyone I play games with hates it.
Edit: this game is actually the sequel. The remake of the original is "Brass: Lancashire".

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  2 года назад +5

Lancashire is the original game repackaged mate. Essentially the same with the Birkenhead thing and a couple of other minor rules removed.
      I wouldn’t say this is a sequel. Not enough to make it a 2.0. More a 1.5.

Yes, no stupid insert in the box, but I have to disagree with one of your cons: I had a few games where we didn't expect the winners and the tables were completely turned. Also, could you try to have a nicer tone of voice during your reviews? I mean, even when you say something like "see you next time", it still sounds like an insult...
