Well done, admire your comment to your values. I'm disabled having broken my leg nearly 6 years ago. That happening & ending my working life I can only make small changes. I have a small terrace house, a wee poly tunnel, soft fruit trees, a roof full of solar . I do what I can for self sufficiency for me & my son. I envy your life style, I'd have loved to have retired to Sligo my Dads home town . But I make do with enjoying Corby & its surroundings. I wished I could be as minimalist. I'm riding myself of stuff stuff stuff. My small 2 bed home has acquired too much in 20 years. Donating recycling is a goal. Thank you for inspirational film . You always get me thinking, as a therapist I know life about the journey. Enjoying the here and now . In Scarborough on hols about to go out on mobility scooter this cold & frosty morning . Keep plodding Merry Christmas x
We have just started our journey out of the rat race. This is a more natural way of life and I have never been more happy and contented with it. Love these videos and feel as though we have a lot in common this way of life is good for the soul and something not many would appreciate. Have a lovely Christmas and I look forward to seeing more from mossy bottom you are an inspiration to many.
I love the simplicity of your lifestyle, I understand how busy it must keep you! I'm not in a position to move to the country as I rent a council house but I'm fortunate enough to have an allotment and love to be outside! I hope next year brings you great growing success.
The commentary in front of the cottage is so very relevant to how we should all be living through these difficult times , with Covid and our struggling economic future. Taking pleasure in the smaller things in life is key, and a lesson many would do well to heed. “Less is more” how true those well chosen words are.
"I don't believe in living my life in anticipation of something" - A wonderful quote. I don't think I could live the life you have chosen. But I am certainly envious of it and want to move more towards that type of life.
Hey! Great video as always. I wanted to share here that you don't need to really do what you did - live in the countryside and living a self-sustaining lifestyle. I noticed for myself that I was not so long ago in a rut and thought to myself, I want to do this but it is too much of a change. Instead, I bought a really cheap house, still somewhat near a major city and it has all the common benefits of a somewhat modern home, but I can also grow my own veggies in the garden. For me this is a great step towards "quitting the rat race" because the house is very cheap and in around 8 to 10 years time (maye sooner) I will have payed off the mortgage on it. I guess you could say I'm trying to live a somewhat more frugal lifestyle (some may be familiar with the FIRE movement), it touches on your way of living in some degree so felt like sharing it here. All the best!
Wonderfully said. It is amazing how perspectives change when you are building or rebuilding your own home. We are still surprised by it, but have no issue with it as we restore a house and garden in France. We work from dawn til dusk and enjoy (almost) every minute. We can see the advancements. But to others it is not fast enough. Yet it is fast enough for us. Love watching your videos. Thank you.
These videos are like bedtime stories for adults---I savor them like a good book. Such calm, focus and intentional living. Thanks for letting us spy on your life as it unfolds.
I love your videos. They resonate on a very deep level. I too am off grid with solar and back up batteries, I’ll address water in 2021. Thank you so much.
Such a kind hearted and level headed human you are. Wish this world had more people like you. It’s beautiful to see you living so authentically. Thank you for sharing your peaceful life with us. ❤️
Yes, I think the tendency with most people would have been to spend time, money and energy by concentrating on getting the cottage done. But you are learning so very much by living simply on the land and in your caravan as well as enjoying the life you have chosen. I totally agree with your philosophy. Have an enjoyable Yuletide and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year. 🎄
Hey mossy bottom family, happy solstice for yesterday. I lived in caravans for ten or more years and loved it. I'm now in a converted horsebox and loving it. In the woods with a stream which generates power. I have a wind turbine and solar panels. Introverted and happy with my chicken's, ducks, honey Bee's, horse, milking goat, ferrets and my dog's and cat. Oh and my plants and crops. What more do you need. The only thing i need to go out into the lunatic asylum for is coffee, rice and pasta etc. ✌️.
It takes a huge amount of graft to live on your own cook, provide food, restore buildings therefore time is definitely not on your side! Totally agree with your reasonings and finding joy in small stuff, really is the best way of putting real life first....fulfillment is key....Merry Christmas to you and animals at Mossy Bottom
Your dog is precious :) I had a rescue.....possibly border collie....possibly aussie....he was the most faithful pup I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of his life.
As a 70yo widely traveled person (plus lived in 4 countries for significant times) I´d say THE most common negative attitude of people these days is the point you made..... people focus on reaching some end point and almost miss out on the enormous potential pleasure/value/satisfaction/purpose of the journey of life itself ! My respect and good wishes to you.
I admire the fact that you have made that choice, and not just dreamed about that way of life. Keep on doing what you're doing, and never rush things to please others. Alan the dreamer saying goodbye untill next broadcast.
“Joy in small things” - so, so inspiring! Thank you for everything you share. The adoring look on Moss’ s face is absolutely delightful! Season’s greetings.
Your videos are really hitting home to a place inside my mind that has always craved a return to the basics of life, but that is afraid to leave the rat race. I switched my dreams from "princess" to "farmer" at the tender age of 5, but the intellectual expectations were always to pursue academia and climbing the career ladder in a stable job. I'm getting ever closer now to a crossroads in my career vs dreams pursuit, and I am so glad to have found your brilliant mind and videos to help guide my decision making. Already started my veggie plot here in Co. Wicklow alongside maintaining a full-time hospital based dietitian role, and am feeling more alive in that plot than ever before in my adult life (reminiscent of my country-life childhood adventures). Sorry for the long-winded comment, but I guess I just hoped to say thank you. I hope to one day cross paths with you and your farm! Thanks again, Didi 😊
Missed the calendar this year next yearI will have to be quicker, glad to hear you sold them all. Such a lovely place they will be wonderful pictures I”m sure.
Yes, gardening requires a lot of tools/equipment, especially: spade, fork, hoe, watering can, wheelbarrow, pruning saw, secateurs, pots, raised bed materials, etc. And handywork requires tools/equipment like: saw, hammer, power tools, nails, screws, etc. I used to live in the country, but the bushfires came through and destroyed everything. I'm looking to put a tiny portable home on the land next year.
Watching your video just makes me feel calmer, with all the surrounding nature around you and lovely animals. Thank you for sharing, and happy holidays🎄♥️
Most people don’t realize how toxic conventional life is! Making money, nailing the dream job, buying the dream house, getting more status is what they aim for. But they lose their souls in the process and have no idea who they really are. You, on the other hand, know who you are, know what really makes you happy and you live each day to the fullest, enjoying growth, discovery, and renewal! Your videos are a graduate seminar in living an authentic life. I admire what you do very much and feel so good at the end of each video I watch! Happy Holidays to you and your animals! Best wishes for a super happy, healthy and productive new year!
You are so right. There is something so amazing about seeing a seedling push through the soil or seeing a new bird in your space. I am so inspired by your life. I hope you go from strength to strength. I bet you don't even miss your corporate office! You seem so content. Have a great day.
Its finding that balance between dependence and independence that you are happy with. I'm just starting on my journey after playing at it for years. Cant believe I've not come across your channel before. 👍 I will be following with intrest. Thanks 👍
Nobody today has any idea of the infrastructure that supports their lifestyle. I learnt the value of my water supply when the pipes in my house kept bursting and I had to turn the water off until I could save the money to get them repaired. It took 8 years to replace it all. I admire your fortitude and your courage to live as you do. I have a friend who lives on a boat with solar power and pumps for water and batteries and diesel engines etc and he knows how to keep it all going and it amazes me. The way society is going I think we might be facing the kind of situation Britain faced when the Romans left lol. Merry Christmas for you and your little family and best wishes for the New Year :)
Thanks for the reminders ,the video has really helped me to refocus, we moved to Leitrim from the uk with the same thinking with our son ( nearly 18) now questions why we don't chase a career ect and time as you say is the most important commodity we have, it's hard to explain that to someone who now craves a life in the rat race.
You’re inspiring and a very special person. I’ve been watching your channel for quite some time and have always enjoyed each and every episode. I’ve also observed how you’ve grown and matured in ways I admire. No doubt your wisdom influences my own course and path, and for that I thank you. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and HappyNew Year!
vIBED oUT • Channel I think that governments are a problem but anarchy isn't much better. Figure out what you can do. Government should be happy when you have people ready to work hard at their own business.
I am guilty of having a house before my garden.. But it is one good reason for that. That is the building permits and regulations in my municipality. To be able to develop the land, I had to have an approved water source, (in my case a well) and a sewage system. Then I got the building permit which is for 2 years, can be extended to 3 years. I would not have been allowed to live in temporary accommodation like trailers or a shed, only during the building period. I work fulltime unfortunately, but I am looking forward to the spring to develop my garden further. You are living the dream. That cottage will be so wonderful, guess I´m more anxious than you seeing it finished and ready to move into! Merry Christmas to you and your furry friends, from Norway.
I think you have come a long way considering the modest help you get from volunteers. I also love you philosophy of life and see you as one very wise man, far beyond your years and the lifestyle your indicated was your upbringing, for lack of a better word, quite "normal" and "common" as westernized modern lifestyles go. As always, I also love seeing Moss-hes beyond adorable, and your other animal companions and co-workers are just as sweet. Many blessings be yours and theirs my brother in humanity, always.
Daniel, You are an incredible human being. You have so much to offer in your words and your beliefs. You are an inspiration. Even if we all were only able to take a few steps to decrease our carbon footprint, it would be wonderful. As I have gotten older, (I'm 70) I've learned so much about letting go of "stuff". Just makes for stress and clutter. Do you allow Moss and the cats in the caravan? I love those kittens who are growing rapidly. Merry Christmas, Daniel. May peace and light be yours abundantly in 2021. Much love.

What an idyllic scene! Cats, dog, pigs, ducks, greenery, tranquility and no doubt very fresh air. From where I am, one of the most polluted places in Europe, it looks absolutely wonderful! I salute your brave decision to leave the rat race and create a whole new life for yourself. Hats off to you.
As we have come to expect from Mossy Bottom, valuable and universal words of wisdom. Live in the moment, not for some trophy future. Go well, and let's have more on the cottage restoration in 2021. No pressure.
You will never die from a lack of knowledge. I think what you have accomplished is amazing. When I was your age, there was a big "back to the land" movement as well which led to those innovations in solar panels and wind and battery power. I think your generation will do it better.
Every year People magazine selects the sexiest man alive. Well they have it all wrong cause Daniel is definitely the winner. When you add up looks, personality, intelligence, humor, and handiness, nobody could beat out the mossy bottom guy.
I'm in envy of your green pastures, sunshine, and open coat.... We have a foot a snow and are solidly into permifrost season. Everything's cold and asleep. Glad you and yours are not! Also, as a first-time home owner who renovated a house left for destruction, I can perfectly attest to the need for every tool under the sun. Just two days ago I sang my father's praises for giving me a socket set years ago, allowing me to service my snowblower. As much as I want nothing, I find I need - NEED - certain things, and probably more of them than I'd like.

Exactly. If you’re lazy in the countryside you’ll end up eating fresh air sandwiches.
Love seeing your homestead growing and changing! I actually often think the opposite - how you manage to do so much every day!
“Life is a journey, not a destination”, and you have proven this.
Thank you.
Your process is your life. A full and beautiful one. Happy Christmas to you, Moss, and your growing entourage of critters great and small!
A very mossy christmas to you too and to every mossy fan out there. God bless us all.
These videos are like bedtime stories for adults---I savor them like a good book. Such calm, focus and intentional living. Thanks for letting us spy on your life as it unfolds.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL
I really admire the ambition you have had to get started and make this a reality for yourself.
I got my calendar this week, and very lovely it is too, its already up on my office wall, to remind me there are other ways of living.
I feel as though I just walked into your garden and you're talking to me.
What an interesting and pleasant online experience.
You are my inspiration, try to write in English but not good enough. I like your way of,life the most . God blessing, Save you in peaceful life.
I love your videos. They resonate on a very deep level. I too am off grid with solar and back up batteries, I’ll address water in 2021. Thank you so much.
Your way of life is so much appreciated. We enjoy seeing your progress. Everyone feels your calmness.
I love that you are restoring the cottage. Happy Christmas, stay safe, warm, dry, comfortable, contented and happy!
Your kitties on your lap got me. BTW, you are looking healthy and content these days :)
Bonus points for your profile picture ☺️
Allowing time to become our friend, not our enemy. Very insightful. Thank you very much, your content is amazing and inspiring.
A few of us spoke of you on Kalle Flodin's live last weekend. He is nice to watch as well and lives remotely in Northern Sweden. :)
I'm looking to put a tiny portable home on the land next year.
what a lovely genuine and caring guy
Watching your video just makes me feel calmer, with all the surrounding nature around you and lovely animals. Thank you for sharing, and happy holidays🎄♥️
Your home is lovely. And you are so right. A home is so much more than a house. 💖
Just brilliant. You are the real deal. I just love how you are bringing the 'dream' to us all. THANK YOU X
You’re such a wise man! Very apt this close to Christmas!
Yes! Life is a journey, not a destination. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Just love how Moss looks at you while your talking/filming. Such love 😍
I so enjoy the way you live in the present.
You a very wise man. Sounds like an absolutely peaceful life.
It is very interesting how current technology can help to facilitate a rural lifestyle away from the rat race. Love the cats!
Just discovered your channel. Your narrating is very professional. Which I really appreciate. Here goes some more time gladly wasted 😂😂😂👍🏼
I'm trying in 🇮🇳 india... But without much money...I want to grow food and stuff too
It's our ridiculous governments that keep the potential green alternative community from coming together.
@@paxwallacejazz yeah
.."Governments" aren't meant to exist ,I think
vIBED oUT • Channel I think that governments are a problem but anarchy isn't much better. Figure out what you can do. Government should be happy when you have people ready to work hard at their own business.
@@Cate7451 I don't think there's a need governance if we become self sufficient 🌼
Good Luck🙏
Your dog looks at you so adoringly 💜
Daniel, You are an incredible human being. You have so much to offer in your words and your beliefs. You are an inspiration. Even if we all were only able to take a few steps to decrease our carbon footprint, it would be wonderful. As I have gotten older, (I'm 70) I've learned so much about letting go of "stuff". Just makes for stress and clutter. Do you allow Moss and the cats in the caravan? I love those kittens who are growing rapidly. Merry Christmas, Daniel. May peace and light be yours abundantly in 2021. Much love.
I have no doubt you live every moment to the fullest, working the majority of those moments.
Good to see another video...good advice...your sweet dog worships your every word...Calendars would be handy with a comment on what you do each month...planting this now....or prepare soil......thank you.
You are an inspiration. Wishing you a very happy and blessed Christmas!
I’ve been with you since the early days and I look forward to your vlogs which never fail to make me smile in some way. You’re one of the nicest and wisest of men and the world needs more people like you. I so admire what you’ve achieved already and the fact that you’re still true to your goals despite years of back breaking work. I just wanted to say how fit and well you’re looking and to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year 🤗
What an idyllic scene!
When you add up looks, personality, intelligence, humor, and handiness, nobody could beat out the mossy bottom guy.
you are a real farmer brother - the land, stock and crops always come before the homestead! Well done on the horticulture course.
love these videos, you look so happy and the animals clearly love you
I'm in envy of your green pastures, sunshine, and open coat....
You understand what really matters. It's a wonderful life. Take care of yourself, Happy Christmas to you and all your viewers.
Doggie..."Dad, who are you talking to? I'm right here...talk to me!" "Less talking, more petting, Dad!"
I was born in the UK,but have lived in the US for 21yrs..(and my folks are from Cahirciveen,Kerry)..What is noticable to me is the Peace&quite..The only sounds he is usually hearing are coming from nature..So good luck to him👍
Big winners = biggest risk takers. Congrats on winning this game of life! 🎉🍾
And so wise ... the true gold is time.
Money you can always remake if spent.
Time, once spent, is gone forever.
After watching this inspirational video, i came away feeling i'm the lazy bugger!
What a wonderful way of living!
I hope to start my journey soon.
I am done with this stifling covid life.
Just found your vlogs and am so impressed. Your sharing about what and why you are doing 'This' is eloquent and heart felt. Thank you so much for sharing. Western Ireland looks beautiful and I hope you are sharing before and after videos of your beautiful stone cottage. What a fantastic undertaking!!
There are many ways to live a simpler life, I found this 11 years ago. I left the rat race.
Well done Sir.
Actually I d like to order a bucket o kitties please.
I’m so looking forward to receiving my calendar..... thankyou. Such wise and wonderful words from a great guy, your living my dream. Mossy Christmas to you and a great new year 😁💕🇬🇧
