Carrie's mom had the best performance to me. "Eve was weak! Eve was weak!" "I can see your dirty pillows." "Take off that dress. We'll burn it together and pray for forgiveness." "They're all gonna laugh at you."
I agree! "They're all gonna laugh at you" is my favorite. Piper Laurie knocked it out of the park here, she's my favorite in this film. This is a dark but beautiful movie, and I love the intense brooding scenery, music, time period, everything. Telekinesis is actually a real but rare thing. I don't think it happens to the degree that is in this movie though. It's funny I was thinking just yesterday about this movie and I thought about how funny it was Betty Buckley was around the same age as the schoolgirls but she played their gym teacher and she mentions that here. She was my second favorite character in this movie and Carrie is third.
Completely agree. Julianne Moore as momma in the 2013 remake was terrible. No shade on the actress but she should not have played that role. She was too evil and witch looking and stale. Piper brought life to it and actually acted like a real crazy Christian woman.
Totally agreed Jako.. And it's always been amazing to me, how this movie intertwines fear, wit, paranoia, neurosis, all of which draws the viewer in to make it all the more terrifying ! Not to mention, incredible performances, editing, camera work, lighting, and complete and tightly woven together.
Though I was born at the end of the 70s, I obviously have no memory of it. when I watch this movie I literally feel like I went to high school with these kids in 1976. It is that grainy footage. It is that music. Love this movie.
Carrie White is my hero. 42 years later and I still tear up at all the pain and abuse she went through. She wasn't safe from abuse even at home. Sissy Spacek....what can I say, she brought such depth, such feeling to Carrie I could feel everything Carrie was feeling. Brilliant performance, absolutely perfect in every way. #CARRIEWHITEFORPROMQUEEN❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Carrie deserved an Oscar for the shower scene alone. The horror, the abuse she suffered, her helplessness, the shock, the ridicule, the shame, and loss of innocence
Bobbie Bodamer This is one of my favorite Stephen King novels, and yet not, because it seems painfully familiar to me, and I know all too well the long-term effects of bullying. You're afraid of people for a long time.
@@caseyb.1259 I'm late to reply here but what you said about being afraid of ppl for a long time is so true. I was horribly bullied throughout school and I'm still dealing with the emotional trauma of those years even now that I'm well into my 30s. I have severe trust issues and I don't even like ppl standing or sitting too close to me because I start trembling. I wish I could escape the memories of my abuse because it's an everyday thing which I can't seem to live down.
I was 5 years old when this film came out. I remember seeing the poster at the movie theater and being absolutely terrified by it. Years later, it became one of my favourite films.
stillstanding I watched it in a theater a month ago. and I totally cried when the gym teacher encouraged her to go to prom, sitting outdoors... totally cried. so perfect.

Peppermint Snowdrift I actually loved this movie. One of the best horrors out there without being too extra or have unnecessary scenes. But I guess anything can trigger anyone. A children's book traumatised me. I got cold reading it and my best friend laughed at me when I told her. Rolls eyes.
Perpermint Snowdrift - For me the movie (and book) was more sad than scary. And is one of my favorite movies. I feel it sends out a message about bullying. But I can relate because I was terrified by The Exorcist movie. The book I read when I was about 13 & yes, it's disturbing, but for me seeing & hearing those things in the movie was terrifying. I was well into adulthood before I could stand to watch all the way through. I still have 3 rules about watching it....1. I never watch alone 2.I never watch late at night before bed 3.I mute the crucifix scene because I HATE what's being said. I know a lot of people laugh at the movie & would probably laugh at me, but I don't care. Different things scare different people.
Sissy Spacek neeeeeeds to be in more movies. Also, I love that the "I might've known it would be red" line was an error. It added to her mom's insanity, and it was also a bit foreshadowing. That dress WOULD become red eventually.
When Margaret says the "I knew it'd be red" line as she sees Carrie in her pink prom dress, she really wasn't that far off. Piper has a point about Margaret: in her mind, it is red. After all, pink is just red and white mixed together.
I felt so sorry for the Carrie charecter in the shower scene 😐 if i had been one of the girls in the locker room i wuddof helped her with empathy and kind caring words n actions!

Man, I knew Betty Buckley couldn't have possibly been much older than the girls playing those teens. Soon as I saw the movie, I was like take off some of that makeup and mess up her hair and Buckley could have passed for one of them! LOL
If I had to choose which Actress to win the best Actress role (Piper/Spacek) in this movie, It would be a very very tough decision!! It is like watching a tennis match were no-one misses the ball. She is just an innocent little girl that happens to have the power to move things, and pushed over the edge. She snapped......
@hippotrot123 The accidental "red" dialogue really is a blessing in disguise in its inclusion into the film. It could show margaret white's inability to tell colours apart due to her mental instability. On a more symbolic level, it seems like Margaret is making some prophetic allusion to Carrie's blood-stained RED dress later after the prom. Hence "I might have known it would be red". Eerie mistake in dialogue!
I mean the movie "The Help". It's another example of a movie that has a lot of talented actresses in it. Sissy Spacek has a small role in it as well =)
Audiences rarely realize the dark, depressing places that actors have to go in their mind to give convincing performances. I think that's one of the things that contributed to Shelley Duval's mental collapse. She went too deep.
Same as Alex Wolff in Hereditary, there was an article on FB and people were laughing and saying he was acting too hard, I was like what?! Dude that's how we get great performances, it annoyed me seeing people say that

Piper's acting is almost campy, but often times dogmatically religious parents tend to be eccentric. Maybe campy isn't the word as much as too real. If you've had very religious parents, or have known friends that had them then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Piper and Sissy's chemistry as Margaret and Carrie in their scenes were PHENOMENAL! Great acting between great actresses!

And to think, she came out of retirement to make "Carrie", and then her film career REALLY took off. So much for retirement.......
I always felt it was quite sad that it seemed like Tommy had realized he genuinely liked Carrie and then everything went to Hell.
In the book it's especially prevalent. He completely realizes it, even thinks "i love this girl"
