Tell them how you looked him in the eye, a man who trusted you, and killed him!." Professor Minerva McGonagall then intervened and battles Professor Snape herself but instead of Snape fighting back his colleague, he then deflects Professor McGonagall's attack towards the two death eaters behind him, before escaping through the window, to avoid further harm on any of Hogwarts student most especially Harry..(since it's obvious how Harry was furious at him during that confrontation and might fight Snape himself.)
I think Snape’s left his book at the bottom of the cupboard because he always wanted to pass on his knowledge to someone. Interesting that it ends up in the hands of Harry, the son he never had.
