    Just realized this bug is the reason I got called a hacker by a Skull Merchant lmao. She stood on hatch for 20 minutes whilst I had 4 gens left so I did one gen and it powered the exit gates. I assumed it was just a change made to help the last player alive but BHVR being incompetent definitely makes more sense lol

      Legit reported someone over this bug because there were 3 survivors left, had 2 I was chasing around shack, then the third survivor popped the last two gens in one go. Don't think there's any real risk of them getting penalized if BHVR is aware of the bug but the fact that someone can get reported over a bug that they might not even be aware of is a major issue.

      @@FemboyKaiSaku And AFAIK the additional gens do not pop. I had a moment, when I realised, that when they needed to get 1 more gen, there were 4 gens. Just for a moment, I was thinking I was going crazy, since in the next game I checked if there is 7 or 8 gens total. Spoiler: 7 gens.

      Literally, I tried to explain in the chat at the end that there were 2 gens left and suddenly there were none, I was the killer, and a random Nea just typed.

      I think it's more like an anti killer winning feature. Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist, but I think a survivor main might have sneaked this in.

    As a developer, this looks more like poor code work getting ready for the 2v8 game mode. If they were adding in the code needed to handle a 1v4 and a 2v8 game mode, they might add code to check how many players are in a game. If you did that poorly you might code to see how many players are in the game but forget that people can rage quit messing up your assumptions. Its just a guess though, without a way to see the code base can't really prove anything. But adding new functionality is a very common place to introduce new bugs.
    For example if in the 2v8 mode the survivors need to complete 10 gens, while the1v4 needs 5 gens, you might introduce code to check the player base and make the % of gate powering for a 4 survivor game be 20% per generator, and in an 8 player game 10%. But what if later the designers want to add a 6 survivor mode or a 12 survivor mode? Well as a developer I would future proof my feature a bit and make it be a value based on player count, so the designers can now just pick what % each gen is worth toward gate opening per player. Whoops I coded it poorly, a player leaves a game and now we get wild values, because I never expected my call for "how many survivors are in this match" to care about disconnects.
    Again just a guess though.

      This does make sense, however BHVR already had a different logic for handling a variable amount of survivors (in private matches): # of gens required = # of survivors + 1.
      Here's my guess: since the game starts with four survivors, the display shows 5 gens, and throughout the game the number shown is (5 - # of gens done). However, when someone DCs, the game makes a recount for the amount of gens necessary to power the exit gates (so, for example, if there's one survivor left the amount of necessary gens becomes 2) and when this number is reached the game powers them up regardless on the displayed number of gens left.
      If that's the case, this is the stupidest and most easily fixable bug i've ever seen, and it's atrocious that it actually got to a live release. All they had to do was save a global variable with the required number of gens at the beginning of the match and change
      if (# gens done >= # surv + 1):
      to
      if (# gens done >= saved_variable):

      Gens are so boring though, most boring part of the game. 90 seconds is already too long, not from a balance standpoint but just fun stand point. Add more gameplay to gens or something first.

    I lost a lot of matches from this but I only realised it later when I was literally looking at the gen counter knowing they would finish one soon and it went from 2 to 0 making me question reality

    As a programmer, it is quite head scratching for me to see how can player's connection to the game and gen completion being connected at all. My guess is spaghetti code, or there are high level game-industry-specific coding practices that I am not aware of

      When you make a custom game with 3/2/1 suruvivors there will be only 4/3/2 gens needed for the exit gate powering. I am pretty sure it has something to do with that. If a guy leaves and now there are only 3 ppl, its one gen less. Spaghetti code at its best.

      One theory I've heard was this was a feature they were tested to help with disconnections but they scrapped it but they didn't remove the code and now it's reappeared. It could also be a 2v8 feature that has bled over into the main mode since there are other 2v8 features that are being bled over like more generators than normal and sometimes 2 hatches are spawning.

      As I understand it this game is built on sand, figuratively, because it used to not be hosted on dedicated servers or something (?) and now some things about it are not implemented in a good way now that they are. Some features they said are gonna take them years (like any way to see your teammates perks) I can't understand how they would be difficult to implement at all, so I will assume that the game runs on some seriously terrible code in some places.
      It probably would do the game a lot of good to redo a lot of its foundations, maybe be able to implement a proper spectating and rewatch feature and some other long requested things, but that would off course be a lot of effort and the decision makers seem pretty fixed on their 3-monthly release schedule.

    Well its just part of an old dbd bug back in the game remember how gens used to decrease if players don't connect to a trial, aka if 3 players load in only 4 gens need to be completed and only 6 gens spawned. So the game is probably thinking 3 players X gens done there should only be X gens left and lowering the value because its probably something scanned over and over and not once per game since that sounds like dbd code.

    Yeah this bug caught me off guard several times... had to clip it to see I wasn't tripping. Also discovered another bug or "feature" when playing Cenobite in Macmillan Estate. If the survivor tries to open the box on the edge of the map right next to the wall and you teleport to them, both of us end up outside of the map. Only way to come back inside was to fall into the void a dozen times

    This actually happened to a streamer friend of mine, he had 3 kills and 4 gens left, all 3 disconnected and didn't spectate, then out of nowhere 4 gens popped instantly, and all of us were just speechless and confused. Didn't even know this was a problem for a lot of people. This is kinda sad from Bhvr tbh.

    If they get rid of hatch this change might actually work to fix tunneling, camping, 3 gens, and slugging for the 4k. It would still give survivors a chance no matter how many were dead, and the killer wouldn't need to slug to prevent hatch from spawning. It wouldn't stop camping and tunneling all together, but it would let the remaining survivors still have a chance if it happened, so it would be a less viable strategy, and therefore less popular. Also, the hatch standoffs that some survivors do, where the last 2 stop doing gens and hide to try to get hatch, would not happen anymore. There would be no reason to hide anymore without hatch, and the matches would play out more interesting most of the time, with people still trying to split pressure and do objectives, even if the match had a bad start. I think people would d/c or kill themselves on hook less too because of this. This could actually be a good change if they do it right. Something needs to be done about people intentionally dieing to give the team an advantage tho. For example, they could take away self unhook attempts, except for the resolve mechanic (anti-camp meter) and perks like deliverance or wicked. Slippery meat would need to be changed too, but that's a much needed perk update/rework anyway. BTW, before I get destroyed in replies, calling me an entitled survivor main, I'm a killer main, have 5k+ hours, and just want the game to improve and be more fun for everyone. 🙂

      I think it’s because the Generator amount is dependent on X amount of survivors. Ex: You can see this in the custom matches where if there are two survivors there will be only three gens to do, so I believe there was a mess up somewhere in the code.

    I was playing killer today and there was 1 remaining gen to be completed but In the map there were 4 gens instead of the Normal 3 idk if that's intended or not and not to mention that two gens got completed at once while I had deadlock. And when that happened so many times i got mad and played survivor and it also happened to the killer i was playing against and i sacrificed myself because i felt bad lol

    Even though this is a bug I kinda like this change ngl. I assume what happened was some wires must’ve gotten crossed in regards to custom games since in custom games you can start a game with less than 4 survivors and that lowers the amount of gens you need to do.

    It happened yesterday while i was playing killer, was steamrolling the game and killed 2 people at 4 gens, started messing around, ignoring the next gen pop and then the 3rd one pops, gates powered, i thought "Am i tripping ?"
    Then played survivor and noticed the two gen pop and said "Damn, what a great new implementation"
    Honestly hope this is a feature cause no one has fun cleaning up a 3v1 at 4-5 gens, games i played (killer or surv) with this active kept being interesting instead of plain doomfesting

    I think this might be a ReWork for Lauries perk called Lone Survivor, or Bills perk called Left Behind. those are endgame perks that suck but this would really make them playable.

    I knew somthing was up with gens. They were going to fast some game. Sometimes they would do it and get 2 for 1. It would go from 3 gens to 1 get but there would be 4 on the map still

    This looks like the remnants of the feature where if a survivor DCed before loading in the game you could get games with 3 survivors only needing 4 gens. So when the players DC the game sees it as a player not properly loading in so there should be one less Gen to complete, this would work all the way down to 1 survivor would only need two gens. So when one Gen is already completed with 3 dead, the game is saying that the lone survivor only needed that one extra not the four they’re supposed to do.

    Well it also solves the issue of the 1 v. 2, when there's only two Survivors left but too many generators to feasibly do. It creates a no win scenario for both sides, because if Survivors come out and try to do generators, it just means one of them has to run the Killer for 2+ generators without being caught and if the Survivors don't do generators, then the Killer has to find them in whatever futt buck corner of the map they decided to hold up in. Worse yet, if a Survivor does come out of hiding and do generators, then the Killer might slug them to prevent hatch to catch the other Survivor, forcing you to bleed out while they hold the game hostage looking for the Survivor that didn't come out of hiding. Its one of the most asinine aspects of the game.

    I quit the game because it just wasn't fun as a casual survivor trying to learn while getting tunneled. So I think this is a good idea but too powerful, because people will quit on purpose as a strategy.
    I think there's potential here to incentivize killers not to tunnel but it needs work to prevent abuse.

    I had a game where an extra generator spawned on the map. So, instead of having 3 gens at the end, there were 4 I had to guard.
    Now I know why...

      My man, Killers are long ago fighting this shit, to make some interesting matches for decent survivors. Sadly now it will be utilising Slugging, and slugging is really bad strat.

    A minor bug that only happens on the screen after a match, is the game referring to Survivor perks as "Items" and Killer perks as "Power"

    so i got the perfect timing to take a break... perhabs they messed up that spaghetti code with implementing the 2v8... im sure its already implemented on last update. its only a if statement to unlock the mode but when some devs are pushing faulty code on the prod branch you get the bugs... the good ol "it works on my mashine" statement.

    Oooooh. I was playing survivor in a match and I was sure we had two gens left. But when we compleated one, the exit gates were powered, so I thought maybe I was wrong. I don't think I will play while this bug is around.

    I think it’d be a feature the devs could actually implement, as a survivor main, I love it. Though, they’d need to seriously buff killer stuff equally somehow, so it solves their tunneling 3 gen problem, but means that killers won’t need to do so anyways to win

    I like your theory, but I feel it might actually be related to the new 2v8 coming next week. Since that mode modifies almost every aspect of the normal trial, it makes sense that some code got screwed up and resulted in this bug.

    The part we’re there’s only one survivor and they popped 4 gens is an old school feature from when closing the hatch didn’t trigger end game. It was to make the game easier for the last survivor. The multiple pops with 3 survivors is most definitely a bad glitch and should not be a feature.

    3:35 the only reason why i used to camp survivors on the hook before the anti-camp was because they were toxic, then i started tunneling the toxic guys because i couldn't camp them anymore , and then the genrush meta came (with sable and BNP changes a while back) so now the game is instantly lost the moment i start doing good? GOOD JOB BHVR
    let's hope it's a bug and not a feature

    I swore I was going crazy. Had a match where someone got tunneled out by a spirit sometime after the first gen popped. The remaining three of us managed to get one more done before the other Kate got killed leaving just me and the other person. She went back and forth slugging whoever got downed first but when she was chasing the other person I finished a gen and was so confused that the exit gates powered
