I live in Ohio, about 2 summers ago, I was up at around 2:00 AM and heard a random huge explosion, that only one other person that I know of heard it.
Spartains that's actually a symptom I think, where you hear an explosion in your sleep but it's actually your brain making the sound instead of happening in real life. search it up if I didn't describe it well.
I wasn't asleep though, I think I was playing Skyrim or something like that. I asked a neighbor and they said they heard something like that too. I should've mention that, BUT, I have had what you're describing happen before, a few times actually. I believe its Explosive Head Syndrome. I've heard all kinds of stuff while falling asleep, Beeping, something Yelling, I've heard my name spoken before, loud crashes. Spooky stuff, its nice to know theirs an explanation for it though.

It wasn't paranoia, my friends brother heard something boom too. My best guess, and most likely guess is that it was a Military Jet that went supersonic. Wright Patterson isn't real far away from our house, about an hour maybe. Since its an Airforce Base though, an hour is a pretty reasonable time for a Fighter Jet. Its also not unlikely since Military Helicopters fly by everyone once in a while and while Jets are a really rare sight, it does happen.

The most mysterious audio to me is the awesome rave track you hear on the bus at 6am on the way home from the club while you're coming down. Nobody knows what the track is, but everyone knows it, and you only hear it after having taken a bunch of MDMA at a rave at roughly 5-7am and only ever on public transport. What makes it so mysterious is that if you have gum or a lollipop at the time, it's so much louder. And only other ravers can hear it... But they never hear exactly the same thing as you. The true world mystery.
