I have zero issues with Sal. Borderlands is a power fantasy game, and he is the ultimate power fantasy. It's also worth mentioning that until you have enough skill points to permazerk, he's rather squishy...
1:49 You forgot to mention that when the game decides how much moneyshot bonus your left gun should have, it looks at the magazine size of the right gun. So holding the Grog in the right hand gives you full money shot bonus on your Orphan maker that should barely get a bonus.
So the main gun with 1 shot remaining all the time just makes the extra gun way more powerful than both combined? Actually an amazing way to play hadn't thought of that (that or the fact that combining the skill to have the bullet refunded and the last shot bonus dmg stack)
@@icehawk3442 I think you misunderstood me a little bit. The left gun does not check how many bullets the right gun has in it's magazine. It just checks the maximum number of bullets it can hold. However, there is another moneyshot bug. If your right weapon has an empty magazine, your left gun will receive the moneyshot bonus from your right gun on all shots fired. But it has to be 0 and not 1. So you would need to fire away all your ammo or get the inconceivable bug that doesn't make your weapon reload automatically.
@Wesley Eberly I was targeting the sirens abilities by getting more specific, but zero also has a specially made suit that has a number of powerful assassin functions for example
Switching to your sidearm is faster than reloading your primary "but what about holding my primary in one hand and the sidearm in the other?" Your primary is a sniper rifle "So?" ....whatever, go for it.
You also didn't mention that the mag size requirement on money shot is insanely broken, because it only looks at the weapon in your right hand. That's why having the grog in the right hand and a low-mag shotgun in the left hand is so insanely broken.
Yupp of you get a mag size of say 17 on the random ruby then use the shotty you'll have so much more damage. Also side note equip the rough rider shield for constant money shot
At first I didn't think being able to hold two guns at the same time is impressive then I realized that means he can hold a slag weapon and fire his main gun at the same time. This means he gets access to slag whenever his ability is available and he got a slag weapon. It's just a point and click adventure at that point.
Honestly that’s the entire reason he’s OP. The guns are made or have wild ass effects, ideally helpful and good at least in certain scenarios. When you allow a character to hold two different guns…well, you basically get the most powerful character. Unless you want to nerf all the guns, making them less ideal for other characters just to make sure combining them isn’t too powerful, you kinda have to accept that. That said, you can mod Salvador to gunzerk with two of the same gun (like, if you have a torgue quad, and you hit gunzerk, you’re now holding two quads even if every other gun in your swap slots is different). It substantially reduces how OP he is, to the point where Axton kinda beats him out. It’s odd that gearbox never adjusted him in this way, and also kinda frustrating.
@@rajkanishu But it's the most obvious advantage. As long as you have guns of three different elements, you have no fear that an enemy can resist your weapons. It's a guaranteed hard or soft counter to every conceivable target.
really good video; every time i play Sal i always go "God i love this character so much" whenever i see big damage numbers, at this point he's just a main staple of the franchise for me and was my very first playable character introduction into the Borderlands games.
3:25 The Lady Fist didn't have 800% extra crit damage on launch. It was only buffed in late 2013 during the 100k loot hunt over a year after the game came out. People would use the crit Fibber instead which has a 700% crit damage boost, but it wasn't commonly used until UVHM came out.
@@ItzTermx Yeah, at level 61 you could one shot Terra with a Fibber and a Quad. People did it with other guns too. I think the videos are still on RUclips.
holy shit this video makes me feel old lol im only 19 so to me this game came out what feels like eons ago. the fact that its been more than a decade, and people like you are starting to make retrospectives on the series is just wild to me. i had no idea back then that even after all these years i would still be all over this franchise. back then i was still getting used to the hype and adrenaline behind reaching Level 50 for the first time. man, i love this game so much, and i love channels like yours that show love to it, too. what an amazing trip down memory lane, this video was
Funny thing is i have been playing all borderlands game for more than 10 years and i still have to actually go end game in BL2. It takes ages and it's so hard for me, also on console and i don't want to use weird things to get quest items and such. I never killed a raid boss, i never got to OP i dont even know what that is. My two best attemps were Anarchy Gaige LVL.72 but i've had loot given to me so it dosnt count imo. Like i had the norfleet. I never looted one ever. Never had seraph weapon either. My latest attempt was Axton LvL 80, barely making it in Uvhm. I used the tooth pick (rainbow ar i think if i remember) mainly. Borderlands 1 i've had all vaut Hunter max level highest difficulty soloing all the content. (I farmed weeks on weeks like 8h per day the armory and only ever had one Pearl. Undertaker i think iirc. So i abandonned that) I got multiple character close to end game in TPS and the only one i finished was athena infinte shotgun build bulletstorm something. Here i can deal with the game it's just so tedious to farm xp and loot. And BL3 i have all characters done and fully ready for end game.
I think weapon merging is a little different than you mentioned here. With the grog, you get the healing if it is out when damage occurs I'm pretty sure. So if you have one gun out and swap to the grog before the bullets hit, you gain the health. Or if you throw a grenade with the grog out you gain health. You aren't really merging its effect in this case the gun is just out and its effect works. If you watch speed runs of the game, the any% with gaige, they do weapon merging there to stack I think its crit damage from one gun onto a different gun.
@@ItzTermx The idea of the pimpahab is stupid at first : a sniper and a very bad rocket launcher paired together ? Thats stupid. But then, you kill Vermi in 20 seconds, and you discover a new world.
That double grenade skill is underrated, epic magic missiles for instant slag and storm fronts for instant grog healing. Chain lightning are good for flying enemies for those storm fronts can keep up heals on a few raid bosses even, OP as hell.
I think the passive weapon stats stacking was what made Sal so fun. Made you think of all the creative ways you can exploit BL2’s crazy gun mechanics to do some insane damage. If the ability was just to shoot 2 guns at the same time, it might as well have been just a double your damage button which is no fun
That’s what I’ve been saying this whole time. If a bl2 remake/remaster comes out and it fixes salvador he’ll still easily be the best vault hunter thanks to his ability to never run ot of ammo and the insane amount of free damage skills he has, but he’ll be nowhere near as fun. It’ll be moze all over again
Great video, however you forgot to mention that the Grog has another very important effect that's not obvious to most people - the 200% type B crit damage bonus which means it's multiplicative.
Got it free when it come to Epic and chose him because I thought shooting two guns was cool. One day I meet a cool guy in co-op who played a lot longer. He gave me a grog nozzle, the permanent one, and explained me the basics. All went to hell after that.
What I usually do is play on the community patch and challenge myself to not use any exploits or cheap strats (no grog, no 400anarchy norfleet, no b0re abuse) etc... Usually works fine into op10 until you try to do raidbosses, then it becomes painfully slow and tedious. Unless you play sal. Then you need to spreadsheet out every weapon and finish your borderlands phd to avoid exploits, and even then you just tear every raidboss a new one
I am glad you mentioned that Salvador is OP without exploits. Dual DPS or DPS and utility together is insane, and not many people understand that fundamental aspect of Salvador makes him so strong. The fact that he can regen ammo and basically gunzerk forever, means that even the downside (high ammo consumption) of having two copies of a weapon is basically non-existent. Also weapon merging works with identical weapons two lady fists together gives Salvador +1600% crit, this is actually worse than Grog and Lady Fist. Which gives +800% due to the Grog's x3 multiplier I am convinced that the spaghetti code that is Salvador is what lead to dual-wielding bugs in later titles such as the buffmeister exploit in Wonderlands (patched) as an example, and those only got patched because these games were more recent. Gearbox is known for being lazy when it comes to this sort of thing.
Dual guns means you have a counter to every elemental resistance in the game and still have a slot for the grenades. You can either use grenades for damage, guns for utilities or vice versa. Every vault hunter can do that but not to the same extent as Sal. Sal literally doesn't need the glitches and still remains amongst the strongest Vault hunters in the game.
bee shield sucks for that cuz its permanently down on higher difficultys and you get almost nothing out of it even if it's active since the harold kills fast without slag and bee
I always played with my two buddies. I was Zero and Maya, my best friend Axton and Krieg, and his younger brother Salvador. Lets just say he was always full of himself.
Sal always has been one of my favs (played every character to max about 2-4 times) because he starts out actually.... Like the weakest ? Just taking a look at new game speedruns he really isn't better than the other characters. He is actually slot worse until you get his skilltree and weapon choices really going . After that you can build into whatever You want. You wanna use the gub? Sure try it to your hearts content. You wanna spam bullets with butchers and never reload? Sure go ahead. I love this. I love the fact that sal really has unlimited build options just because he can pretty much break everything. This game has so much awesome loot and equipment it's a shame 90% of it goes to trash for most of the characters at higher levels while sal is able to make use of it. Ofc those things are still much worse but they're still playable.
I think its fine to have one "broken" character. Makes it a little bit easier to do raid style content for people who are not maybe that good at games or dont have friends to play with. Everything should be soloable in borderlands anyways and its good theres a character that can do it well
This was enlightening. I didn't really realize how all of Salvador's skills and bonuses interact but I love playing Salvador. I honestly need all the help I can get.
This makes me nostalgic for the first time I played bl2. I was Maya, and my two friends were Gaige and Salvador. At one point during the playthrough the Salvador-player starts laughing excitedly and explains how he just noticed he had become incredibly overpowered
When i was Playing with a friend he was struggling with a enemy and got downed... I just walked by Moneyshot/killed the enemy and revived him like nothing ever happened.. my friend was quiet and mentioned that i did like over 500k+ damage.
this is a really cool video! salvador is fun to talk about in terms of balance, as he has had a very interesting history throughout borderlands 2’s lifetime, along with his mechanics and abilities, and how they make him who he is. i do think salvador is broken in some regard, but i think it comes a lot down to the weapons he can take advantage of rather than him exclusively. earlier on, when a lot of dlc weapons didn't exist, such as a grog nozzle, and the level cap was 50, i think he was better balance wise as he didn't have access to any of the now well established powerful gear he can use, and you didn't have as many skill points to work with. while you can rock the rubi and harold, you still have way less skill points than nowadays so you kinda have to invest wisely. i think he was designed to be a glass cannon, dealing out heaps of damage and taking heaps of agro, with the gunlust and rampage trees allowing for massive stat boosts and constant damage, and tank giving increased survivability so you can take more heat, but the addition of several weapons like the grog nozzle, new legendary class mods, etc, along with the hugely increased level cap, it basically nullified any sort of weakness that salvador would have had in the past. the grog made his tank skilltree almost entirely obsolete, allowing him to just go all in on damage and duration, which allows him to be even MORE powerful and tanky, as with the grog, damage = healing, with more damage = even more healing. i think Sal being able to capitalise on weapon effects is really cool and unique to him, but that alone almost pushes him over the edge entirely with balance singlehandedly imo. i would hate to see it nerfed, but it probably would be necessary to make him more reasonable. even then, there's so much more to talk about with salvador, such as his skills like money shot and overkill, along with general jank like guns in his left hand not being affected by certain skills/gear, but i just wanted to give my 2 cents. he's a fun character, and a macho man for sure. edit: just realised editing this comment to change some things accidentally got rid of the heart i got oops fknwnfn still, thank you anyway for the heart!!!
"Game coding wasn't that advanced in 2012" I'm pretty sure it was plenty advanced to have done it correctly. It's not like we are talking about Doom 2 here. Surely it was just laziness and/or apathy. Someone who does know please correct me if Im wrong.
There's another busted skill that Sal has - 5 shots or 6. It's a kill skill that gives you a chance to receive +2 ammo to the magazine after a shot and with a class mod boosting it to 10/10 you get 50% chance for it it happen so 50% of the shots consume ammo and 50% of the shots refill magazine back, which gives you almost infinite ammo on most guns, with ammo regen effects that Sal has it actually becomes infinite. Very strong with Vladof sniper rifles, you use them like a machine gun on Sal.
Thanks man I play krieg and sal to this day. Awesome content I will agree 100% on this video. Salvador is the character you get on to have fun with. Or to help carry other friends in raids lol.
Money Shot is even more broken than what you said. It scales up to 12 mag size (instead of 10 like the description says). Which means that the full bonus you can get with 11 points is 1056% and not 880%. For the Grog Nozzle healing applying to the other weapon, it's more about the Grog Nozzle being broken than Salvador. Healing from Moxxi weapons works with every damage you do when holding the weapon. Yes, it's easier with Salvador, but using Chain Lightning or swapping weapons with slow projectiles (like a DPUH) works well enough on every character.
Yea I showed the wiki screenshot to make up for forgetting about saying it lol. Don't worry I got a video in the series ALL about the grog in the works :)
I still say that Sal is really fun to play! Even if you know ALL of the builds and set-ups for Salvador, you can still easily get 1-2 tapped by much of the harder content if you do not know exactly what you are doing.
The Library of my highschool was where i first saw the trailer for Borderlands 2 and when sal came on screen it was love at first sight. ive put 2000 hours at minimum into borderlands 2 and only ever completed one playthrough as someone other than Salvador (shout out krieg)
I completely forgot to mention another weapon combo. Green Vladof launcher & the fibber. Fire both guns at the same time to pause ammo consumption on the fibber until you stop firing, or gunzerking wears off. You can do this to money shot Hyperius to death at speeds so fast, you can chain kill him to cause loot pools large enough to tank the frame rate.
very broken glitch though its main strength is raid bossing only its for most other combat situations not viable since you sacrifice any chance at healing
salvadors issue wasn't inherently him using two weapons at the same time, it is that he had so many bugs supporting him on top of not having a negative damage modifier while using two weapons.
I think it's still safe to say that Sal isn't much more OP at endgame levels than the others; Sal has PimpHab, Moxxi weapon healing, Money Shot, etc. but Maya has speed builds and insta-revives, Axton is an insanely survivable jack of all trades, Zer0 has b0re and Critical Ascension, Krieg has Bloodsplosion and Nova spam, and Gaige has Anarchy. In a co-op setting Sal achieves his intended role as a tanky DPS dealer. As long as you're using sane weapon combos Sal still has to work for his kills on OP10 like everyone else, and I think it's safe to say that Sal kinda just perfectly illustrates everything broken about BL2 in the first place.
don't forget about mayas cloud kill which with just a grog nozzle makes her close to invincible, also she can stack her killskills and get the healing effect on any gun
@@Halimat2.0 Maya became a lot more viable after patches in 2015 and again in 2019 that mitigated the abysmally bad elemental damage scaling at OP levels, before that she was largely relegated to Beehawk builds because her action skill was very useful for mobs.
Sometimes, you want something that will challenge your skills, your intellect, in order to achieve what deemed impossible. And sometimes, you just want to go around and kill everything you meet, yell one-liners, shoot two guns that do not shut up, and have a shield that doesn't shut up neither.
Inconceivable caps at 50% chance to not consume ammo. And you get the full bonus when your shield is depleted or you are very low on health. So you don't need to be 1 shot away from dying to get the full bonus. You still get it at full health with broken shield.
I have the same Sal since launch! I'm not going to be like "he OP, not play". This is new to me too, I dont really interact with Bl2 comunity, but Zer0 seems strong too. And I didnt know about the Pimpernel, and I dont know what a Ahab is lol
Zero is very strong, sometimes even better than Sal, but he's much harder to play. The Ahab is a rocket launcher from the pirate DLC. It's not very good on its own, so most people only use it for that exploit.
me playing Borderlands 2 for the first time: "Ooh that mohawk guy looked cool in the intro, it looks like he's the best at shooting. I think I wanna pick him for my first playthrough!" me after watching this video: "...What have I gotten myself into?"
sal is who i used and i had no idea he was op. years later i found out he was broken. bl2 was also my first loot game and i didn't know what builds were
Do not use the Ahab on Sal with the pimpernel use the Duuurp with 6 or 7 mag size so you can easily boost it up to 12 with a neutral monk classmod as the aditional moneyshot bonus with an empry launcher is way higher than the base damage increase from the ahab Also the duuurp has a much lower projectile speed so the explosions will be in a much tighter group also increasing the damage cause more of them will actually hit
@@ItzTermx try it out its awesome especially against smaller enemies you can compare duuurp and ahab by shooting the pimp on the ground and while the ahab projectiles fly in all directions like artillery the duuurp ones practically all land within a few feet of the pimpernel projectile I farmed the torque vendor for a 7 mag duuurp and can therefore get it to 12 shots with a neutral monk classmod and can additionally also wear an explosive relic with no need for an allegiance relic to reach max money shot Ive done the calculations in my head pretty throughly and including the fact that the projectiles hit more reliably its definetly the most potent combo It also works well on a raider build with 6 MS and 5 incite and a low level tortoisr shield for insane mobility and firepower combined and also inconceivable constantly active as if u were using the rough rider
Wonderlands spellshot can kind of spell-merge, allowing the damage on your 1st spell to apply to your 2nd spell, the Buffmeister spell gives every gun shot a tiny bit of extra damage, but this damage can take the value of your 2nd spell base damage, allowing your Buffmeister-buffed shots to do A LOT of extra damage instead, don't know if this ever got patched or not, I haven't seen it in a while but I think that's more because the community condemned it, or maybe it did get removed
Sal, as broken as he is, still remains a character that every single borderlands fan should try. You don’t have to beat the game or 100% or anything. But give him a try. You’ll see just how much he trivializes every part of the game
I absolutely loved sal. I went with Zer0 in my first ever run on 360 but on PS4 I decided to go Sal... I tore that entire game to pieces lmao. Made farming bosses for rare loot stupid fast and fun, he was so disgustingly broken in the most fun way possible. So many different combos to work with.
One thing that i have decided to do as a op10 Salvador player is I discovered the no moxxi brawn. I have been playing it as a deputy build its alot of fun and in op10 takes some practice but its very fun and makes salavdor a more balanced character.
salvadors mechanics could be extremely fun in a modern borderlands game really, if borderlands 4 has multiple action skills again i feel like it should come back in some sort of way, just actually balanced and such. also, every borderlands game except 1 and 3 (if you dont count digi clone or iron bear) had a type of gunzerk in it, bl2 had sal, blps had nisha with her dual pistols and wonderlands had spellzerker, so thats interesting
It’s funny how Gearbox realized after the game was out that they inadvertently made a broken character and have tried to make a similar character but never Salvador again because he’s just too good.
The most powerful guns to dual wield for Salvador that I have discovered pimpernel sniper slag and a world burn rpg preferably the sniper in your left hand
I actually played this game on a Dell laptop with integrated Intel graphics that were so bad I had to mod the game into the ground, shadows, outlines, even entire texturing went. It ended up looking like a PS1 game, but Sal was still a blast to play.
It's been a while since I played Borderlands 2 but the craziest thing I recall doing (which will most likely sound plain vanilla here) was doing the Doctor's training program to obtain overpowered weapons. The last round had some mega robot with two sections and a gazillion hit points. I remember my friend and I trying out damnedest to kill that thing over twenty minutes of fighting--it sucked. Right up until one time I died and got sent to the beginning. And since I was playing Zero and had the skillset that sped up his bullets (i.e: added range and damage the further out the shot went) I accidentally discovered, "Hey, I can hit that thing from where. With a Sandhawk. And five seconds later, that damned robot with 90% of its health just died. So from then on out, we got to that damned thing, I died immediately, then killed it from extreme range.
uber crit swapping was mega dumb too. all the characters can swap to a lady fist before a shot lands for extra crit damage, but sal can swap to a lady fist and a grog nozzle for an extra 2400% bonus crit damage
Honestly I think he is better "balanced" for the game they made in terms of the average person playing through once and seeing how far they get. The vast majority of people will never put the time into a game to perfect build an axton or whoever to see all the content there is. And in terms of speeding through the early game and ruining it for yourself, again, hardly anyone outside of the small amount of people making/watching BL2 videos a decade later actually are aware of stuff like the grog nozzle or some best in slot weapon to farm and just play normal and TVHM using whatever they find along the way. In that sense, his basic power level without specific knowledge of glitches/mechanics helps push people along at a nice pace. I love the series, but I have seen so many people just drop off it with various characters when the scaling gets wonky and everything feels like a chore to fight. Its not so intuitive to people to go back and farm some specific named dude two zones back just for a 2% chance to make the game feel like its designed well again. If they power through it with sal and whatever random blues they found in chests and actually finish the game and try out the endgame, I think thats a good thing. I'd love to see the stats on the amount of people who even bothered with the OP levels. I would assume its much smaller than everyone thinks.
I don’t remember where I saw it, but I remember reading that Nisha’s double pistol capstone was built off of Salvador, and you could basically gunzerk or damage swap
I’m hyped. In my opinion, the most broken, as well as cheap, character has to be lawbringer. She simply made the game too easy. I don’t even think we want another one, she was just that broken

@@minhducnguyen9276 slag grenades exist
really good video; every time i play Sal i always go "God i love this character so much" whenever i see big damage numbers, at this point he's just a main staple of the franchise for me and was my very first playable character introduction into the Borderlands games.
God You just reminded me of how old I am, good catch completely spaced it
Ahh, Axton and the slag licked glitch.... Good times
@@ItzTermx Hey man, I was there too lol. Totally get it. It's been way too long.
@@HenryMyth I remember people used the fiber with a certain shotgun but I'm spacing the name (maybe the quad?)
@@ItzTermx Yeah, at level 61 you could one shot Terra with a Fibber and a Quad. People did it with other guns too. I think the videos are still on RUclips.
holy shit this video makes me feel old lol im only 19 so to me this game came out what feels like eons ago. the fact that its been more than a decade, and people like you are starting to make retrospectives on the series is just wild to me. i had no idea back then that even after all these years i would still be all over this franchise. back then i was still getting used to the hype and adrenaline behind reaching Level 50 for the first time. man, i love this game so much, and i love channels like yours that show love to it, too. what an amazing trip down memory lane, this video was
I'm 19 too bro, I remember when I bought this it was my first ps3 game. Well after Skyrim.
I'll make you feel young again:
I was your age _when BL2 came out._
So i abandonned that)
I got multiple character close to end game in TPS and the only one i finished was athena infinte shotgun build bulletstorm something.
This.
Sal is god mode. Double pen Harold's and grog nozzle and rough rider = OP
Indeed, But he is so fun with certain weird gun combos. Like having 2 shredifires will always been awesome.
@@ItzTermx or the lead storm with a bee shield
@@ItzTermx The idea of the pimpahab is stupid at first : a sniper and a very bad rocket launcher paired together ? Thats stupid. But then, you kill Vermi in 20 seconds, and you discover a new world.
That double grenade skill is underrated, epic magic missiles for instant slag and storm fronts for instant grog healing. Chain lightning are good for flying enemies for those storm fronts can keep up heals on a few raid bosses even, OP as hell.
and double the grenades for grenade jumping is so fun
Very true, I saved that for a grog specific part :)
Oh the Harold and grog combo, absolute classic 🤤🤤🤤❤️❤️❤️
*sighs*
*opens bl2 to start a sal build*
I am glad you mentioned that Salvador is OP without exploits. Dual DPS or DPS and utility together is insane, and not many people understand that fundamental aspect of Salvador makes him so strong. The fact that he can regen ammo and basically gunzerk forever, means that even the downside (high ammo consumption) of having two copies of a weapon is basically non-existent.
Also weapon merging works with identical weapons two lady fists together gives Salvador +1600% crit, this is actually worse than Grog and Lady Fist. Which gives +800% due to the Grog's x3 multiplier
I am convinced that the spaghetti code that is Salvador is what lead to dual-wielding bugs in later titles such as the buffmeister exploit in Wonderlands (patched) as an example, and those only got patched because these games were more recent.
Running through dual wielding an unkempt herald and grognossle with a bee shield is so fun hahaha. No aiming required and you never die lol.
bee shield sucks for that cuz its permanently down on higher difficultys and you get almost nothing out of it even if it's active since the harold kills fast without slag and bee
Everything should be soloable in borderlands anyways and its good theres a character that can do it well
In my opinion the grog nozzle is what puts him over the edge. He also requires far less setup to be effective
RIP my boy Yoteslaya 😢
When i was Playing with a friend he was struggling with a enemy and got downed... I just walked by Moneyshot/killed the enemy and revived him like nothing ever happened.. my friend was quiet and mentioned that i did like over 500k+ damage.
this is a really cool video! salvador is fun to talk about in terms of balance, as he has had a very interesting history throughout borderlands 2’s lifetime, along with his mechanics and abilities, and how they make him who he is.
i do think salvador is broken in some regard, but i think it comes a lot down to the weapons he can take advantage of rather than him exclusively. earlier on, when a lot of dlc weapons didn't exist, such as a grog nozzle, and the level cap was 50, i think he was better balance wise as he didn't have access to any of the now well established powerful gear he can use, and you didn't have as many skill points to work with. while you can rock the rubi and harold, you still have way less skill points than nowadays so you kinda have to invest wisely. i think he was designed to be a glass cannon, dealing out heaps of damage and taking heaps of agro, with the gunlust and rampage trees allowing for massive stat boosts and constant damage, and tank giving increased survivability so you can take more heat, but the addition of several weapons like the grog nozzle, new legendary class mods, etc, along with the hugely increased level cap, it basically nullified any sort of weakness that salvador would have had in the past. the grog made his tank skilltree almost entirely obsolete, allowing him to just go all in on damage and duration, which allows him to be even MORE powerful and tanky, as with the grog, damage = healing, with more damage = even more healing.
i think Sal being able to capitalise on weapon effects is really cool and unique to him, but that alone almost pushes him over the edge entirely with balance singlehandedly imo. i would hate to see it nerfed, but it probably would be necessary to make him more reasonable.
even then, there's so much more to talk about with salvador, such as his skills like money shot and overkill, along with general jank like guns in his left hand not being affected by certain skills/gear, but i just wanted to give my 2 cents. he's a fun character, and a macho man for sure.
edit: just realised editing this comment to change some things accidentally got rid of the heart i got oops fknwnfn
still, thank you anyway for the heart!!!
Sal is probably the weakest vault hunter until around level 50 then he becomes a monster
Getting him through TVHM was such a slog
Krieg may be my favorite character from any looter shooter
I literally mained sal end game most my hundreds of hours were on him. The unkempt grog nozzle combo just made the op8 game easy mode
That is what bl3 makes better the balance between all characters. In bl3 every character is good.
My first borderlands character was sal but i never used the exploits i just used vladof spin guns and ran around being a a10 warthog
I remember watching YouAlwaysWin and one said that “Salvador ultimate was double the pleasure double fun A bunch of shots for everyone”.
I love YAW, grew up watching them
"Game coding wasn't that advanced in 2012"
I'm pretty sure it was plenty advanced to have done it correctly. It's not like we are talking about Doom 2 here. Surely it was just laziness and/or apathy.
Someone who does know please correct me if Im wrong.
As an axton main I have to admit Salvador is fun af to play
I mean regardless of how u feel. Sometimes it's just fun to have infinite power.
I think his other skills play more of a factor to it than just the dual wield, he's basically one punch man
Money shot is definitely a factor, but it's really just icing on the cake.
Double grenades, and 5-6 shot skill and low capacity jakobs shotguns😍😍
The Library of my highschool was where i first saw the trailer for Borderlands 2 and when sal came on screen it was love at first sight. ive put 2000 hours at minimum into borderlands 2 and only ever completed one playthrough as someone other than Salvador (shout out krieg)
NOBODY expects the Salvador Inquisition!
Salvador was my multi-player character and I never had an issue with him. I loved every minute of my 300 hours of BL2
this video made me feel better about playing Gaige and zer0 lol
if you beat all raid bosses on op10 with bar off as gaige you're a real pro
As a noob to Borderlands 2 i thank you for telling me all about how broken Salvador is and now i'm going to abuse it maliciously in singleplayer.
Didn't know about the pimperhab glitch, thanks for the new knowledge:)
salvadors issue wasn't inherently him using two weapons at the same time, it is that he had so many bugs supporting him on top of not having a negative damage modifier while using two weapons.
Sal is so far the only character I have to make it to op10, I just need to the pimp combo to raid
Inconceivable caps at 50% chance to not consume ammo. And you get the full bonus when your shield is depleted or you are very low on health. So you don't need to be 1 shot away from dying to get the full bonus. You still get it at full health with broken shield.
Really like this video! Fresh format with a new approach to the game, keep it going!
❤️
When you listen to The Echo you realize this is what he is one man army
I really wanna replay this game
My buddy and I are playing through all of the first few, super fun
I think I wanna pick him for my first playthrough!"
me after watching this video: "...What have I gotten myself into?"
The moment I realized you can combine weapon effects on sal, I realized he was the strongest.
Salvador can have some insane slag combos
sal is who i used and i had no idea he was op. years later i found out he was broken. bl2 was also my first loot game and i didn't know what builds were
As a Sal main I feel like you just attacked every way I like to play the game. I'm here for it though
it’s hilarious how he’s better than full bug builds because they only have a single bug, he has dual wield bugs possible
Do not use the Ahab on Sal with the pimpernel use the Duuurp with 6 or 7 mag size so you can easily boost it up to 12 with a neutral monk classmod as the aditional moneyshot bonus with an empry launcher is way higher than the base damage increase from the ahab
Also the duuurp has a much lower projectile speed so the explosions will be in a much tighter group also increasing the damage cause more of them will actually hit
Honestly I didn't know that, Never tried the derp. Only ever used the creamer and the ahab
@@ItzTermx try it out its awesome especially against smaller enemies you can compare duuurp and ahab by shooting the pimp on the ground and while the ahab projectiles fly in all directions like artillery the duuurp ones practically all land within a few feet of the pimpernel projectile
I farmed the torque vendor for a 7 mag duuurp and can therefore get it to 12 shots with a neutral monk classmod and can additionally also wear an explosive relic with no need for an allegiance relic to reach max money shot
Ive done the calculations in my head pretty throughly and including the fact that the projectiles hit more reliably its definetly the most potent combo
It also works well on a raider build with 6 MS and 5 incite and a low level tortoisr shield for insane mobility and firepower combined and also inconceivable constantly active as if u were using the rough rider
@@ItzTermxtry the world burn too. I don’t think it has higher damage than the ahab but the fire damage on the pimpernel is fun
Gunzerking with a Chulainn, DPUH & Bee shield = God mode.
Doppelganger in the looses of terms can weapon merge as well
Sal, as broken as he is, still remains a character that every single borderlands fan should try. You don’t have to beat the game or 100% or anything. But give him a try. You’ll see just how much he trivializes every part of the game
Sal is the best character. Krieg is the most fun in terms of shit talking and just running around beating everything to death.
Salvador was definitely playing the game on easy mode. Krieg melee only is the true patrician build.
Gotta think Sal was slapped in there for very young kids. Game don't have a difficulty slider, want to set the game on very easy? Pick Sal.
Yeah pretty much.. Just walk forward hold down both triggers and you win the game. Health regeneration can't run out of ammo. Even with shotguns.
Forgot to mention that one of the skill trees for him let him throw 2 grenades for the price of one
"Game coding wasn't that advance back there(2012)" what the fuck????????
Very excellant and descriptive guide of Salvadore
The most powerful guns to dual wield for Salvador that I have discovered pimpernel sniper slag and a world burn rpg preferably the sniper in your left hand
I actually played this game on a Dell laptop with integrated Intel graphics that were so bad I had to mod the game into the ground, shadows, outlines, even entire texturing went. It ended up looking like a PS1 game, but Sal was still a blast to play.
I see u been on a content grind lately, got potential to blow up with that thumbnail and title, respect
Hey! thank you for the kind words
Hilarious that the grog gives crit damage aswell as crazy heals
Smart man here, not many people know the drunk effect on the grog gives 200% crit (which is multiplicative) great catch!
@@ItzTermx it was a persistent passive bonus, no need to wait for the drunk affect. that and the crit bonus was 400%
@@0xGRIDRUNR You're telling my the grog was nerfed at one point? Maybe I'm old 😂
Or I'm dumb and it never was. But never knew it was persistent
@@ItzTermx afaik it was always a persistent effect.
to my knowledge the grog's stats were never touched after it was implemented
Didn't know people didnt have fun on sal. He is pretty much the only character i play to have fun.
The beutiful sound of like 10 money shots
Bro i didnt have to worry about refilling ammos even once during my playthrough with salvador
I don’t remember where I saw it, but I remember reading that Nisha’s double pistol capstone was built off of Salvador, and you could basically gunzerk or damage swap
Lady fist + bee shield+ literally anything else=destroy everything
Dope video dude good shit :)
As a programmer, when I first saw Sal, I thought: if these weapons properties get combined, this is the strongest character of this game. I was right
I’m hyped. In my opinion, the most broken, as well as cheap, character has to be lawbringer. She simply made the game too easy. I don’t even think we want another one, she was just that broken
