My biggest takeaway from this is how impressive Lucy's development as a presenter is. Looks and sounds totally at ease, dare I say professional, in front of the camera now. This does call for a rematch with both cooking their own version at the same time in the same kitchen though.
I can already tell you how this will go… Lucy - *makes something posh* James - *makes something for your average joe* Lucy - *doesn’t like it or want to even try it, possibly takes the smallest bite ever seen*
Actually she is one of those people who seem most uncomfortable in front of a camera! She is not built for it... and dare I say she has no showwomanship for it! It is sometimes agonizing!
@bluesque9687 I wonder how many folks are naturally "cut out" for presenting on camera. He skills in production are impeccable, for a fact but, She's clearly not formally trained in presenting. The mechanical way in which her arms and hands flail about whilst presenting is the dead giveaway there. If she sticks at it and her "tribe" aren't afraid of hurting her feelings with constructive criticism, more importantly, if she's OPEN to said criticism, she will get it all nailed down at some point. She's clearly a very talented person, just a bit green in the front of camera area.
@@MichaelEgan66 "very talented" at what? Production? Well, i got nothing aganist her.. but i dont think she is the only one... not that it is very indie! And, if she is not trained to be a presenter then why is she doing it? I think if they take the show a bit more seriously .. seriously enough to make it cool.. then she will appear less in front of the camera... definitely less solo!
Only two thoughts ... Firstly, from around the era when James was born, "I love Lucy", and secondly her advice on when its ready in the oven "when it looks cooked" ... brilliant! Definitely one to try out, heads, incoming!
Yes, Lucy! You are much more comfortable with your developing chef skills (cooked looking, gloopyer, tricky bits..,). Loved the editing on this video. Some cooking videos contain too much watching the cooking or baking process. You did at the end of the video ask us "What Next"? I would love for you and James to be back in the kitchen and make your favorite meal from growing up in France. Rather than "blasting" you for the foods you don't like, let hear and watch you and James make what dish you loved to eat as a child or teenager. Well done Chef Brown!
“Angona” instead of “I am going to” is an interesting twist to the beautiful English language. Lucy’s pronunciation has amazed me since her first videos on YT. Angona watch the rest of it now 😊.
They might say that, not sure, but have had it plenty of times with pear in France, so at least they acknowledge that it works with more then just apples, regardless of what it should be called ^^ Also lets face it they still bicker about what to call a pain au chocolat/chocolatine/chocolate croissant so it only makes sense they bicker about this too hehe. (before i upset anyone, in my honest opinion the first is the only correct term & i agree that chocolate croissant is something entirely different)
… think aböut it: all these lovely people cooking ’n chefin’ around exploring food and the world of taste… and stuff that ye put in your face… a lot, like next to none of this would be possible without farmers! Farmers knows Mother Nature and that is thy source! PS. I couldn’t help to notice that Lucy has developed greatly in attitude and in overall prescence! (Heads up, James! She might steal ye show! 😜) You’re all a wonderful bunch of people! Love your stuff! Cheers, mates and happy midsummer to you! 🇫🇮 Hyvää juhannusta!
At least Lucy is cooking and trying different things. Lucy, don't be discouraged when things don't work out, cooking is learning what works and what doesn't. The key is, you are trying different things. I remember as a kid being served asparagus....out of a can, olive grey and mushy. Much later in life I saw a lady bring out a tray of bright green spears. "Is that asparagus??" I asked. The lady said that is was so I asked to try a spear, and wow! I loved the semi crunchy, refreshing grassy flavor. It was the same thing with Brussels sprouts. Many of the things we didn't like as a child were probably cooked the wrong way. I love the smell of a sweet potato carousal, but for as many times I've tried, I just can't eat it, but, roast a bunch of sweet potato wedges in an oven until tender and slightly charred? Yummy!! I'm sure James has given you the same advise as I have. Having said all that, there are three things that I cannot get past, lima beans, pickled beets, or calamari ( I don't eat fish bait!! ).
Why doesn't the bunker have a small, old-fashioned, cheap, two slice, reliable toaster? It's been years and I've had this bottled up! For the love of sarnies!
As much as I like and admire James (though not to the detriment of Lucy), Lucy's pear affair looked tremendous! I very much want to try this at home (and not just because they wouldn't let me try it at work).
Pear is the best kind of Tarte Tartin, im 110% sure he was unbiased and it was just that much better ^.^ I also 'demand' a rematch where James cooks his version himself, then accepts defeat.
Since we are on the topic of "my biggest takeaway from this is..." i now learned: whenever someone closes a fridge *strongly*, that person turns into james may. brb, in the kitchen...
Well done, Lucy. Beneath his gruff response, James seemed fairly proud. Put simply, he now respects your cooking skills enough to think you have the capability of throwing the contest. And, now I’m off to buy pears and pastry crust.
Now we need James to take revenge! GO PART 2! 😊
I'm just amazed she actually likes pears, or pastry.
I’m amazed she likes anything at all at this point 🤣
fussy/problematic ingesters of food stuff are odd types. But, that said when one of develops in even a few tiny steps... Well done!
Bravo etc etc.
she likes sushi
@@imaner76They just need a few days without any food to enjoy the taste of survival

The in/out of the oven transition was really cool.
I really thought she'd just slammed the door closed too hard
I laughed out loud every time the fridge was shut violently 😂
And James' reflections can be seen in the closed door👍

Thanks
I can't believe how much Lucy reminds me of my daughter. The looks and even the mannerisms.
I love that James is grumpy answering the call
Lucy and James should do travel show together. They already done they own.
Yes!!!!!!
Or buy a farm…
Absolutely. "James May and Lucy Brown travel to ........"
What a fantastic pear tartan, well done Lucy.
They both look amazing!
Great video, James is so sweet! Lucy you are so great,
so happy watching your videos~

Great video. Its brilliant when you do cooking on this channel. Look forward to more cooking content maybe with James and Richard.
The title of the book was fantastic!
top tier content, per usual. carry on sirs, madams.
Nice to hear about a food Lucy actually likes!
It's been a while.....so very glad to be back watching. Lucy made making the carmel look easy...."Bake off" competitors are jealous, I know I am.
Love everything Lucy, only wish she'd do more video's.
Hurray, Lucy is getting better at cooking 😋
Yay, more Lucy content!
Excellent! Thank you Lucy
It looked wonderful XD I WANT MORE LUCY CONTENT XD
haha James is James haha I knew he was going to get you on that LOL.. Well done, Lucy!!
Great Job Lucy Brown.
I’m actually in love with Lucy Brown.
James was just having a grumpy senior moment because your pastry was better😂🤣
It should have been James and Lucy in the Amazon Show!
Haven't watched the video yet. But I'm always happy to see Lucy. 👍
Yep, she's cool! 😎
Now this is exciting!
Cooked looking is a great description!
Also, love Lucy and am happy to see her in her own segments!
I feel like Lucy is the daughter that James never knew he had. They are lovely together.
As the French would say “If it ain’t got apples in, it ain’t a classic Tarte Tatin”
Sounds english to me :)
They might say that, not sure, but have had it plenty of times with pear in France, so at least they acknowledge that it works with more then just apples, regardless of what it should be called ^^

I honestly like Lucy more and more every time she's in a video
Going to need James to do apple vs pear now
James and Lucy should do a show for Amazon together.
I like James explaining the the potential biases. In bake off they attempt to remove biases of the judges, but sometime I think they know.
do a part two of t his with james cooking both recipes and tasting them together with an unbiased judge
Your cooking skills have improved

#1 great seeing Lucy taking a more presenting role on here and DriveTribe. #2 will James do a revenge dish?
Well, I haven't tried it with pears, I definitely will now. It never dawned on me to make it with pears.
pears are just better apples. you should replace all apples in all your apple based recipes with pears honestly
Bravo! That looks great ^^
James 😍😍😍
Looks delicious with pears. What is the make of your cake pan please?
Great video Lucy!
Steady on, Mr. May. I think she won this one fair and square. (or round, as the case (or pan) may be)
Nice to see again.
Love how the angry James image appears on her fridge door.
I always feel sorry for Lucy. No matter what she does or they make her do she always ends up with the sh=t end of the stick. Well done Lucy🥳🥳🥳
That actually looks quite appetizing Lucy, it makes me wanna try to make it. Or buy apple tartan at the store😅
James does have a point. If you're going to compete, each should make their own dish.
I think Id like to try this with quince instead of standard apples or pears.
Great job, Lucy, and I'd love to have a slice of your tatin -- using pears is a big improvement.
Why doesn't the bunker have a small, old-fashioned, cheap, two slice, reliable toaster? It's been years and I've had this bottled up! For the love of sarnies!
Lucy is just wonderful, and the banter between her and James is fantastic. I love this combination of talent - so much fun to watch!
Please do more like this and James did seem rather defensive.
Almost as bad as Ramsay after the fish pie, We need a showdown.
is there a site with all recipes from season 2?

And the tarte tatin looks absolutely delicious.
So sassy... this is beautiful!
Oh James, Give Lucy the win. hahaha
I'll always vote for lucy because I love her
Was the oven temp exactly the same? Could have been, some apples do bake a bit faster than pear...I would try with green apples for the real test!
