WOW!!! Thank you so so much. I started my podcast and I recorded my first guest episode. I didn't want to invest in a bunch of equipment at first, so I recorded it straight onto my MacBook Pro! I was a cheerleader in college, so you can imagine my voice is naturally loud. However, I had two other guests, both of whom are much more soft-spoken than me. SO thankful for this tutorial!!!
You're welcome Jenny. Not sure on your audio setup but if you were able to record in the multitrack in three different tracks that would help you ever further but I appreciate that isn't always possible.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Saahil for Asking this Question. I've watched more than 10 videos of Mike just for this problem but none of them helped except This finally. 👍👌 And Thanks Mike for Detailed answer. and that Preview Waveform Panel Blew my mind!! I was like woah where was this before! How I did not know!
The benefits of (1) Subscribing and (2) Watching that many of your videos that you get suggested videos that not only help with a sound problem you are having but is flipping fascinating at the same time!
Thanks, Mike! My wife has recordings of live meetings where not EVERYbody gets amplified so well, so this should help tremendously. Love your knowledge and friendly spirit!!
More information about Vovol: When the sound has high volume voltage, the speaker membrane is stretched like a guitar string, so that the sound becomes more sharper, realistic and noise-free. This can be achieved by using an equalizer with a preamp. First, all frequencies are lowered, to, for example, -12 decibels. Then you raise it up to +12 decibels, with a preamp. This is how I usually experiment, with vovol, because currently there are no tools, or apps, to do this. If you, or any of you reading this, have an equalizer with a preamp, I think you should try it too. And thank you all for reading! :-) Again, great video!
Very helpful. Audio normalization is a big problem on my podcast, so hopefully compression will do the trick. I just have to stop the hisses getting in there :)
Helpful explanation. I needed to understand how to flatten a field recording of birds, with rising & falling sound of wind through trees. I think you've set me on the right track 👍
i tryed your settings on 5:15 on my videoclips and its perfect, everything has the same volume but doesnt sound off. thank you :) i used it in premier pro by the way it works just as good
Hi Mike..What software are you using so that you have no background around you and just your head and shoulder overlayed over the Adobe APP and no artifacting? It looks great!
I thought for sure that this was going to be about the effect called Speech Volume Leveler. I still haven't figured out what that tool does. I would think by the name that it would do exactly what Mike was trying to accomplish in this video, but since he never mentioned it, now I'm stumped. Hey Mike, how about a quick video about that feature sometime soon. Thanks.
Thank you Mike for the videos, and for always being super helpful! I've applied the single band compressor to my podcast (both speaker), but noticed that one of them now has a slight hiss in the background which I didn't have before. It also enhanced the very mild background noises (soft clicks etc) which could not be heard beforehand. Should I now run yet another effect to get rid of these, or did I over-use something in the single band compressor maybe?
A compressor makes the louder parts closer in amplitude to the quieter parts by reducing any audio that goes over the threshold. The make up gain then adds amplitude meaning everything becomes louder. The hiss you're hearing would have been there before and although it may not have been audible it would have been visible in spectral frequency. Before applying the compressor you want to tidy up as best as possible any undesirables in the audio like background noise and clicks otherwise compression will enhance these.
Thanks for a great tutorial, Mike. What sort of price range would you say is a good starting point for a microphone for gaming commentary/tutorial commentary or really just anything RUclips related? Finally, generally speaking, is a condenser microphone the way to go? Thanks.
Hi mike. Im just a new audition user and i just want to seek help from you. I had a video coverage which i used a zoom H1 for my audio recording but unfortunately the soundtech failed to adjust the sound quality into a good quality turned out into a horrible output. Can i send you a portion sample audio clip which i exported from the original clip? Hoping to hear from you soon. Thank you.
Match pitch and feel of two speech audio files of the same person Like when the person takes the vo on diff days and the voice has a difference in textures... i just want it to sound like its the same texture and audio properties when the listener listen finally?
Hi, the best way to achieve this would be punch and roll so the person recording gets the flow and feel of their first take. You'll get better results through punch and roll than trying to modify the audio in post. Try this video ruclips.net/video/olxjy8p2mxs/видео.html

Hi, is she recording in the same environment as the original as hopefully this will help it sound similar. I would suggest asking her to record the entire paragraph again and then hopefully she'll have picked up flow by the bit you need. You can then edit mid sentence in and out and hopefully this will better fit the original.
Hello Mike, my name is Jon Driscoll. I'm happy to have discovered your tutorials. I have a very professional "source Connect" home studio with several high-quality microphones. Most of the time I use the Neumann 102 or the Lauten FC-357I've been in the voice over-business since 1979, but now that the technologies are too advanced for doing my own mastering. I'd like to send you a few samples of raw movie trailers that require epic mastering. Is this something you can help me with? Sincerely, Jon Driscoll

This is absolute gold and I can tell is going to improve the quality of my audio on RUclips. Audio Audition is $21 month if you pay monthly for an annual subscription. Is there a good substitute for Audition? I just need something for transcrbing Zoom conference recordings, to help my ears when one person is shouting and another person is speaking at normal volume.
@@MikeRussell Thanks for the fast response! Since you're a professional, I can see that Audition would definitely be worth a subscription for you, since it's loaded with other features. After signing off RUclips last night, I checked my Express Scribe software to see if there were a way to separate the channels and bump up one channel's volume. Turns out there is a compression feature in its options. It took 2 seconds to change the setting and the problem was solved. What's nice is that it works whether it's audio only or audio+video.
How timely! I've just filmed a school panto (Jack and the Beanstalk) and there's a huge difference in the the voice levels (demure fairies vs THE GIANT). So your tutorial was a Godsend. In Premiere: Effects, single band compressor, switch preset to Voice Leveler, add the appropriate output gain (bottom slider). Finished. You're welcome.

how can i play all my computer sound [youtube, amazon movie, mp4, rumble, etc.] at the same volume level on my little computer speakers [they use 3.5mm jacks]?
You can use an audio compressor plugin to flatten and balance the volume levels across various applications and media playing on your computer speakers.

Great stuff Mike, however, I don't see the Average RMS amp setting anymore after I scan for stats. how can we do this without that?

Mike I wish you can notice me
Can I apply this kind of technique on vocal mixing too?
Yes this can but be careful not to use too much compression initially or mastering will ruin the quality when you add that.

Is there any example
Or like the max. Percentage is xx % of it's original
I’d suggest watching the videos on compression and mastering so you learn how to set and apply these techniques.
