The owner of the 11 year old dog is a wonderfull person to have raised that wonderfull dog to that age and health. I know she will have many more happy years with that cutie.
My dog is a mixed breed but she is such a quick learner she learns new tricks within hours and I have been teaching her how to jump since she was 8 months old. She can easily jump 80cm to a metre even though she's about the same height as a normal Jack Russel. She would be great at this If I spent some time finding an agility centre to train in, she would pick it up no problem. She's five years old so maybe it's a bit late to start but I'd love to do it for fun. She turned out very well for my first dog.
That's partially true, but they also allow the dogs to finish because they love doing it. Agility is meant to be a game for the dogs, but one that stimulates them mentally and physically. Handler's are not allowed to give corrections to their dog in the ring, and taking them off course is a bit like a punishment. People do it, but I always let my dog finis the course. Also, many times eliminations are not due to dog's disobedience, but to handler errors.
Well i's a positive sport, you'll rarely hear a negative word in agility. The dogs finish the course because the sport is it's own reward. The dogs are trained not to fear failure as to ensure the dog is having fun.
They allow them to finish the course because it's bad training to quit in the middle. If you let the dog stop, they will have it stuck in their head to stop half way through, or where they messed up.
Watching a "mutt" do so well isn't about rubbing it in people's faces. It's about making people want to adopt more dogs. So please don't mock people who love their dogs just as much as the owner of that "mutt" does. This sport is just a way to have fun with your dog, and the dogs love it. Please don't ruin that with your competitive attitude.
Depends if ur just starting but because u can't start training the jumps until ur dog is 1 year old so start with the weave poles I've got a video on my channel just click on my name of the easiest and fastest way to teach your dog then the tunnel as for getting the do used to the crowds set up a corse your dog has never seen before and get some friends and their dogs to come and watch wile eating or talking and progress from there 😝
The reason most people use Border Collies like my father and I have used, Is because they are one of the smartest dogs in the world. To me the border collie IS the smartest. Also border collies are extremely fast.
nothing, why should i ,I m thinking to adopt this one from the shelter, was just curious that could enter Crufts thats all..speaking of mix breeds, I would just LOVE to have a mixed border collie/golden retriever XD , a golden one ...think i could even skip lunch for that ^^
aww my dog is called fudge. he loves jumping. too bad he has a limp from jumping too high. we really need to get in a dog trainer because i am not doing good for his leg
It does seem like there's quite a lot of mistakes and disqualifications, which is unfortunate, but is quite understandable at this level of competition. I guess everybody can't win so DQ's are necessary at this level plus as they kept mentioning, the carpet, crowd, lights, cameras, etc. are all very foreign and unnerving to some of these dogs and the handler's are also probably nervous, which I bet the dogs absolutely sense, so it's very understandable. But it just looks like way more compared to lower level competitions or demos haha hopefully though, these dogs kept going and/or got desenstized to this stuff and did better the next year :)
would be nice 2 see a large dog competition in this though, and when i say large dog i dont mean a collie weighing like 20-25kg. more like 50kg+ since lets face it 25kg is not a large dog it's a medium ^_^
Johnnycake Blaa ye, they are not as agile ofc since alot more weight would need 2 move around, but just immagine a rottweiler vs a great dane or something. would be pretty cool ^_^
Really your dog can't sit nicely on a leash? All it can do is play tug. Manners and obedience come on people. Love my Border Collies but there is an 'on' time and an 'off' time with manners.
bcmom5 haha, these collies are just too excited. Whether they can or cant walk on a lead is irrelevant as trying to get them to do so may drop their energy, which could result in a slower round, I know from experience. the toy is to motivate them :)
***** "Drop their energy"? Are you kidding me? Their energy never drops and just because they are under control doesn't mean they are going to loose energy. Come on now. You sound like the people I ran barrels against who had out of control horses with no stops. They were using up energy needlessly. I proved that you can have a horse and a Border collie under control and with manners and still be able to run fast when needed or perform whatever duties called upon. Sure I jazzed up my horse or my dogs when it was time and than off again. It is no different than putting them on stock and calling them off. "Off" is exactly that and they should not try to work until turned on again. That is control.
+bcmom5 I thought I replied to this 3 weeks ago, but I guess I didn't.Its preparation. Dogs do indeed do heelwork as a warm-up before they go into the course, however, this is usually away from the jumps. All the dogs here can indeed heel, but the idea is that the moment they enter the course area, they have 100% enthusiasm and energy.Getting your dog to focus on you will actually snap them out of the working mode, when you want the dog to be as excited and have as much energy as it can have. This is CRUFTS, one of the biggest events for agility in the world, and for these handlers. Every inch of energy counts. Also, there is little point in focusing on getting your dog heel besides you anyway. The handler should be thinking about the order which the jumps are in, and constantly reminding himself where to go, what handling techniques to do and where, where to focus on in the course etc.Honestly, if he's worried about his dog walking nicely by his side, he should go onto heelwork to music instead!Having the dog play with the toy is giving the dog something to drive for, as the toy is the reward these people give at the end, and is what the dogs race towards around the course. Having the dog play with it gets them thinking about the toy, and when the toy is taken away from them, they immediately think about running the course as fast as they can to get the toy, like hunting in its own sense.Starts from when they are puppies, and are given the toy as an exciting reward for doing an exercise over the jumps and tunnel, whereas treats are a calmer approach to rewarding and will result in a slower time, and no reward will result in a dog going at its leisurely pace with little drive.
I love how happy the dogs all are at the end. They don't care if they knocked something over or went the wrong way. Dogs are the best.
I just love to see the dog's having so much fun.
Farley boy I agree I just love it when the dogs have fun
The owner of the 11 year old dog is a wonderfull person to have raised that wonderfull dog to that age and health. I know she will have many more happy years with that cutie.
Sheperd + J. R, what a mix ! Speed and Elegance, he is great. All of them are too indeed.
I like that they let the dogs finish the course so they don't feel like they've failed their owners.
10:58 The sweetest dog i ever saw! :D

Well done to our Becky and Kiah so proud of you from us all at the Field of Dreams Dog Training
good point, didn't think about that.
che bello l'agility è uno sport bellissimo
sooooo happy just qualified my dog in the ykc handler of the year
That's partially true, but they also allow the dogs to finish because they love doing it. Agility is meant to be a game for the dogs, but one that stimulates them mentally and physically. wow, great show here, excellent quality, thanks for sharing

they have a sheet of paper with the course drawn on to study. it is like horseback riding jump courses
you can start training at 3 mo. but no jumping, just handling. it really depends on when the dogs growth plates fuse to start jumping.
YAY!! (belated) CONGRATS!!!!!!
Some of those crosses are so hard to make! They do a great job :)
was anyone else totally charmed by goose girl???? GORGEOUS!!!
3 toy poodles in one show. So cute!
P.S. Hi Charlie!🐶😇❤❤❤
I have a very smart 10 week old American bull Terrier Dalmatian mix and I think he would be great at this.
am i the only one who would happily do the course by himself?
Amazing
They are so fast.
I love these kind of dog shows
My heart just breaks at 26:34...poor baby knew she was messing up :-(
check out this year's agility competition at Crufts on the live stream on the Crufts youtube channel from march 7-10 - subscribe not to miss out!
Zaz the sheltie made me cry because she reminds me of my first dog Fletcher...
I Agree!!!!! (And German Shepherds!!!)
I love watching all the purebred people with their 'perfect dogs' losing to what they would call a mutt :3
waow nice game
ive started training for agility with my over sized shelty.
Amanda Vodder how's it going? I've been training fun agility with my border collie and am just starting to think of trying a small competition.
It's not necessarily the purebred that is "dumb." Maybe it was bred for something different like hunting then a border collie.
Oh cute that some dogs bark when going round the course!!!!
All dat speed ev training pays off
Yeah, positive feedback is by far the best way to train dogs. It's too bad so many dog owners don't understand that.
cool good job
They allow them to finish the course because it's bad training to quit in the middle. If you let the dog stop, they will have it stuck in their head to stop half way through, or where they messed up.
i entered this competetion with my german shepard :D

they removed the link ^^
I haven't heard him slagging off dogs. He's just saying how it is, but he isn't negative at all.
whats a good breed for a beginner?
by training..
0:40 the judge looks like Paul O'Grady
5 second penalties!? I could understand 2 seconds but 5 gives you no chance at a come back. With that much loss of time might as well call it a DQ.
The reason most people use Border Collies like my father and I have used, Is because they are one of the smartest dogs in the world. To me the border collie IS the smartest. Also border collies are extremely fast.
they learn faster.
The Border Collie is the best!
what thats crazzy

Only in pedigree meaning ones, yes.
My ultimate dream to to compete at crufts with my own dog :-)
they do by playing tug of war with them afterwards :)
Border Collies!! ♥ ♥ ♥
This is hardcore....
w8, did that guy say that the dog from 17:00 is a cross breed ? i thought only pure-breed dogs can compete..
Excited for Crufts 2017?! 🐶🏆

Its so nice.i luv dogs
My dog is a mutt and she's faster than the young grey hounds who come to the park.
Did anyone else think, Pokemon when watching this.
11:30

Agility is based on height not weight. 50kg dogs tend not to be very agile, so of course it is going to be much harder to Q!
Johnnycake Blaa ye, they are not as agile ofc since alot more weight would need 2 move around, but just immagine a rottweiler vs a great dane or something. would be pretty cool ^_^
+PeterRIchard91 theyd still manage to get border collies competing there somehow xD border collies are all thats used lol
Must of taken a long time to train those dogs!!!!!
i now ... iam very lazy, can some1 tell me if there is a rottweiler in this video? and if yes, mark the time please :D
those are small dogs?? i call that medium!
I do local ones in my area. With my pitbulls and belgian and my 3 chihuahuas... I win
I have a border collie/beagle and she's smarter than most beagles (from beagle owners)
Is chinxing the dogs
That poodle jumped of the A frame.
yea it did it like twice! the judge must have a thing for poodles :P
hou!!!!
one of those commentators needs to be a bit more positive, he slags off nearly every dog! ¬¬
Point 2 of a second hahahahahaha you mean TWO TENTHS?
He's actully correct
+Ally Baczkowski duh but you say it as two tenths, not point two 😂😂😂
+ross burton Where I'm from (UK) we would say point 2
+HighFiveTRex wow.
+ross burton Where I live you say it as .2 xD 😂
can cross breed dogs do dog agility at Crufts
Yes.
thank uzs
Border Collie rules!
i think pigs are smarter XD
the rulles are so stupid...
:)
( I think crossed breeds are dumber and not so good than pure dogs.. like my dog class, germenshepherd/ w curled tail..
