I'm reading a book called The Knitting Sutra and have been thinking about this very same thing so this video came at a brilliant time :) I also really appreciated your being so careful not be prescriptive about your ponderings. Thank you for this video

Hi Hannah! I was initially directed to knitting to help with late diagnosed inattentive adhd, and am still new to knitting, but have found that it has been very healing for me. I was in hospital last week for surgery and took my knitting with me as a way to help with anxiety waiting to be called in and it honestly made a difference! I’ve been knitting at home too since and have found it really helpful with my recovery ❤️‍🩹 Thank you for mentioning knowing when to set your knitting aside and return to it the next morning. I’ve found there have been a few evenings when I’ve been determined to work on something even though I’m tired, and I inevitably make a mistake and wish I’d left it for when I was more awake! So definitely a good reminder to listen to my body more. I work part-time in a bookshop, so reading as well as knitting has been a big part in my healing and recovery. I enjoy the meditative aspects of both ❤

Hello Hannah, thank you for such helpful words. I am eighty and have started crochet after many, many years. I am so enjoying the pleasure of it. Now I would like to start knitting again. I can knit but shaping is a bit of a problem and I can't really remember how so I will follow you and look for your videos which will help me to re learn the gaps. I have been practising basic stitches but now I am fed up of just straight pieces. I would love to knit a simple jumper. P.S. I made loads of crocheted scarves and Christmas stocking presents at Christmas. Now I want to knit as well. Thanks Hannah, love your channel.

Hi Sheila! There's some shaping videos in a playlist, which exact technique you need will depend on the pattern, but it's a good [place to start.
I always suggest starting with smaller shaped items, like a hat. This will let you practice the techniques multiple times before getting into a larger item. A simple beginners baby beanie or beret will do wonders for adding onto your skills.
      Happy knitting 🧶

Hello Hannah, I have actually knitted a jumper in chunky yarn on wooden needles. It's got raglan sleeves and an easy stocking stitch. it's not perfect with some holes around the neck where the picked up stitches are and my seams could be better. But I used it as a complete re learning project and it has encouraged me. I remembered more than I thought from years ago. Thanks for your support.

I agree! I knitted my way through the pandemic. It kept me connected to others, and I was able to knit online with my knitting friends, and we didn’t feel that isolation. It’s healing, you are so right. Thanks for this great video. You put into words what I’ve always known, but not been able to explain to others.

Goodness, yes! That year or so was such a good time to find comfort and kindness is knitting and crafting. So glad you found the support and connection with it too. Happy knitting 🧶

With Reading you can take yourself to another place and escape. Knitting, I feel, just makes me concentrate rather than escape; unless I have a film on or listen to an audiobook. Knitting or crochet is great physio and mental healing for my post operative patients who have gone though breast surgery x

I’ve been switching between knit and purl and more complicated patterns, I love that sometimes I can close my eyes with it and just feel the stitches with my fingers.
Agree the reading can take you to a totally different world. My book that I’m reading is a bit serious, so need to switch that up too! 📚happy knitting 🧶

That's the joy of experience cariad. I can look away on knit bit i have to be slower on purl for some reason. Just had to take back nearly 5 inches on my jumper! I was only following the wrong size pattern i had started! What an numpty 🤦‍♀️ thankfully i noticed where i had gone wrong. Experienced people still make mistakes 😆😆xx

Yes we certainly can make mistakes! (that's how I end up with mistake-fixing videos in the knit-alongs... I've made those mistakes myself! 😂)
