As usual nice work Hayley. May I also add a hack to the soft sand problem? Don’t throw away those snow baskets that come with your hiking poles 😀In the absence of snow, screw them on when approaching soft sand and you can improve your upper body contribution to the traverse, as the poles don’t sink. I tried this for the first time on parts of Cape to Cape and it worked a treat.

thanks Hayley amazing information that seems so obvious now you've said it, but I certainly hadn't considered. I'm heading to Tasmania next week so, I'm binging all things OLT to pick up any last minute hints and tips. I've just folded all the jackets I could find into their hoods!! 🙂

I've never seen birds in North America open zips. That's rather considerate. Squirrels and chip monks just chew through your pack.

Haha clearly our birds haven’t flown over and told your birds about it!! But sounds like chipmunks, squirrels and possums all conspire together for destruction 😛

The best way to make sure your head isn’t downhill is to lay your ground sheet down, and then actually lay down on that before you pitch the tent to determine where the slope is.

Or use a clear drink bottle like a spirit level .

To check for ground level for your tent, use your half full water bottle by laying it on its side using it like spirit level.
I just did 7ks on Mazzoletti Beach heading into William Bay today. Looking fir thst hards sand all the way.

Hi Hayley. Just did the GOW as our first hike. Was going to get a bigger tent groundsheet. Not any more! Thanks for your vids. Heading off to Kmart to buy a dehydrater. The freeze dried stuff was yuk. Keep up the great work.

Going on my first ever backpacking trip and tiger balm is going with me after this video))
My hack for walking a lot is applying a very rich foot cream before sleep. Somehow next day after a longer walking it usually feels like it's my skin that hurts a lot xD So bringing a tin of classic Nivea cream with me as well

You have wicked awesome lean legs but you are “abusing” them with Tiger Balm. Lol. We used to use that cycling and it is effective, I say abusing in jest. But have you heard of or can you get Biofreeze in Straya? It is awesome. If not, I will ship you some forcfree.
Loving your content so far. As a very seasoned trekker I just learned a couple of things. Cheers

Huzzah, new vid, 2 of them! Haven't youtubed much lately cos data, impeccable timing! That battery one was good for me cos I consistantly bring too many power banks but leave em out to freeze so won't do that.. Also sand is kinda cruel.
Groovy tips and keen to get out for a hike, it's been a while. Still got half a cape to cape to go but it's probably a brutal time to do it. Might just catch a bus to a random spot far south and wander around. Cheers heaps, all the best!

PLease be careful with loose batteries.... if they connect they get really hot. I burnt my leg at work (nurse) I took the batteries out of a device and left them in a pocket and it burnt me
It's a real not made up fire hazard - especially in a sleeping bag just tape the ends or keep them in a box...

The battery thing.. I wouldn't recommend it. Batteries are volatile, and if they are discharged, they could combust and catch fire.. I would rather it happen in a bag next to me rather than in my sleeping bag.. just my 2cents

NEVER sleep facing up OR down hill, sleep across the slope, prop your body with your gear,
