@@Imperial_Britannia I mean in the sense that we’ve been singing God Save _The Queen_ all our lives but since Charles’ accession, we’ve gone back to _The King._ It’s just a strange feeling given how long Elizabeth II was on the throne is all I meant, not that the music itself is actually outdated lol.
God save the King, the national anthem in its finest and his majesty’s glory may prevail once again. Love from the United States, from an Englishman, who resides there.
Hey, what do you think about the theory that God Save the King was inspired by the Jacobites? If so, I wonder if there's actually a Jacobite version of God Save the King somewhere.
Well it was. God save the king was written in 1745 when the last Jacobite risings happened, it was written in support of George II against Bonnie Prince Charlie, there is even a version of God save the king with the lines ‘rebellious Scots to crush’ referring to them.
@@Imperial_Britannia I meant the theory that God Save the King was originally a Jacobite song, and that "send him victorious" meant sending Bonnie Prince Charlie from France to Scotland. There's a video about that.

Yeah, but it takes time to make videos, I’ve posted ‘God save the King’ recordings from Queen Victoria’s and Edward VII’s reign, and now George V, so I’ll probably post a 1936 Edward VIII recording, and then a ww2 recording for King George VI.
Still feels weird that these lyrics aren’t outdated anymore.
A lot of European music is much older, heart of oak, 1759, rule Britannia 1740, La Marseille, 1792, Marcha real, 1770

A shame you don't sing this third stanza anymore.

At one point, did the line “god arise/and scatter his enemies” rhyme?
