Making music is like telling a story. The story of 'Black Orpheus' has been told many times. But.......the way mister Soikkeli tells it is magnificent and beyond this world. I can hear mister Soikkeli's story, over and over again!
Incredible! I've seen this over and over again.. Both are super performer. Joscho with his absolutely brilliant technical performance is always thrilling. Olli's technique is also fantastic an to me musically more pleasant due to his coherent flow.
Life has blessed these fine musicians with a precious gift: the ability to touch souls in their most intimate lair. The troubling ease with which each layer of notes carves and shapes our emotions, fills me with rumbling awe and a deep sense of wonder. I am grateful to the Jazz Club Hannover for capturing and sharing this gem with the world. Thank you Josho, Olli and Stefan for your commitment to your instruments. I wish your all well and hope you will continue to enjoy life playing your music for as long as possible.
I love this the whole dynamics of this recording it gives me goosebumps ! I have listened to this on numerous occasions and never get tired of it !! Thank you all involved for such a fantastic recording . You are so gifted and talented thank you all for making this piece so special .
I just recently discovered Joscho and now Olli. So fluid and flawless. Gives me so much joy to hear these master musicians. Joscho's right hand is such a blur at times that it actually makes me laugh.
Fantastic players. Joscho Stephan, Olli Soikkeli - I salute you both! Sitting after a long rehearsal with a good lagavulin and being transported away to a wonderful place!
When I hear musicians like this bringing the guitar to the highest level it gives me such great inspiration to throw my guitar away and slap myself for even trying!
To me, Joscho is the best guitarist in the world and arguably the best who ever touched the instrument. His technique, style, and emotion in playing is unsurpassed. I play this song here also on RUclips, but am thinking of deleting it and starting over!
I agree that Jascho is truly a master and one of the best. Have you ever checked out Yamandu Costa? (. ruclips.net/video/fs54pXS80p4/видео.html ) Although a very different style of music. I also think he is also truly one of the best guitarist I the world.
Stephan really combines both technique and styles in a perfect way. His solo is not only Gypsy but the mixture makes him great and unique. I am not sure whether it is because he has a lot of times playing with Tommy and influcend by this Giant.
My first time with this style of music. I feel so close to these artists. Soothing to my soul. Thanks Denny, for the invite Please repond to where to make a donation. Great evening ,Michele D'Ambrosio
I've experienced goosebumps in many LA jazz clubs over the yrs & again 'Now... watching these Fabulous musicians climb inside one of the most beautiful songs ever composed, Black Orpheus by Luiz Bonfa'
All of that ......AND...you ended everything with some of the forbidden song... :)... just awesomeness as always. Great job done by all three of you, be well.
Why are we just talking about Joscho ? did you not hear that wonderful piece of art that Olli performed !? Of course they are both great players with technique to spare !
IMHO Olli's performance here was a little bit flat. You don't feel transported with highs and lows, I felt it like boring tbh. Only my opinion, not removing anything from the great technique and talent from Olli, but I did not feel touched by his playing. On the other hand, technique aside, you feel a lot of movement in Joscho's playing with soft parts, tense parts. I think he expresses better on his instrument. I'm not a Joscho fanboy, just what I feel on this song.
One could obviously argue in anyway they want, or even move it to the troll level. But seriously man, if you do realize how the bass plays it soooo gentle, and even not taking a start with Olli, I believe there is an intended arrangement there and Olli is definitely doing something according to that. I liked to think of both jazz and cigars the same way, people prefer differently and one can say cohiba behike is the greatest while a davidoff is also briliant, even one is a full bodied cigar and the other one mild and mellow, both are just great cigars. On Joscho and Olli's level, really, there really can be sooo much talk on the style and such but it really is controversial due to any biases or purely personal preferences. At the end of the day, I am just hoping people can have a little more respect and appreciation for both styles. If I wanted to argue, I can say that Joscho's pinch harmonic part is bs as how poorly it sounds with the mic for recording or if I am a troll i can also aruge that Joscho is too cheap to buy a high-end pick-up. Guys, let's just shusshhhhh and listen and it hopefully the music brings enjoyment to you.
That there is an arrangement with the bass player does not necessarily imply that it becomes interesting to hear :) It's as you said about personal preference and for me especially emotion transferred from the player to the audience. Not talking here about technical sound, pickup or whatever bright sweeping technique used for a lick. I did not see anyone in the comments disrespecting neither Joscho nor Olli, even though you diplomatically stated that most of people "suck Joscho's ass". Just my 2 cents.
I "met" this hauntingly beautiful melody as "Carnival" during my undergrad years. My music minor best friend and I were too broke to afford sheet music or LPs, so we spent part of a Saturday afternoon in a huge music store, memorizing the lyrics [me, English major] and the accompaniment [she was a superb pianist who could also play by ear]. Then we scurried back to our dorm and worked out an arrangement on two guitars -- she would mentally transpose the orchestral melody and chords into a guitar-playable key. . . our combined strings and fingers, however, NEVER sounded like Joscho's and Olli's combined strings and fingers. . .
Воу!!! Волшебно! Это уже почти блюз - чувственно, нежно, слегка грустно, мечтательно, романтично... так может исполнять только влюбленный 😊💖👍 браво и благодарю за такое прочтение Орфея!

Remarkable beauty and concentration in this work! If it were a painting it would be a masterpiece! I wonder if anyone ever painted something based on this piece of music??
Wow! I always thought John McLaughlin's version was the killer until now. I don't know what it is about the Manha da Carnival (Black Orpheus) melody that makes it so magical -- I could listen to this version forever. Inspired playing by both guitars.
Josho is technically spotless and impressed me beyond reach! Olli flew away and took me along on a musical dream! Beautiful...
More than spotless, Joshi is very inspired and Olli shines... Extraordinary.
Very basic a diatonic
As the years pass, this performance will be referenced by many....Just inspirational......

Diese Jungs sind eine schöne Entdeckung.Die Auswahl von Stücken ist hervorragend.
I first saw this movie in the 60s. This performance honors the brilliance of the film.

OR, maybe turning my guitar into a planter!
I know what you mean, man, but just look at the satisfaction that bass player derives from simply playing.
Jake Workman is better

I really like them both Tommy and Joscho. If they play together it is phenomenal.
So many beautiful touches in a single piece, it will take multiple hearings to digest all this..
My first time with this style of music. I feel so close to these artists. Soothing to my soul. Thanks Denny, for the invite Please repond to where to make a donation. Great evening ,Michele D'Ambrosio

Hvala Paulo na ovom podsjećanju na dane svjetske slave bossa nove.
Why are we just talking about Joscho ? did you not hear that wonderful piece of art that Olli performed !? Of course they are both great players with technique to spare !
Totally agree.... They all sucking on Joscho's ass while ignoring the fact that Olli totally has nothing less than Joscho in this piece.
IMHO Olli's performance here was a little bit flat. You don't feel transported with highs and lows, I felt it like boring tbh. whatever you say .. chief ..
The bass player bowing at the end was killer.
The name of this tune is Manha de Carnival. It's from the film Black Orpheus.

OOF the amount of skill on that stage is absolutely astonishing.
Masters each,Hugh emotion from Joscho.
