- Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood reacted Thursday to the recent arrests of Deputy Stephen Corbin, accused of holding a woman against her will and demanding a sex act, and Corrections Lt. Jonathan Harding, accused of sexual misconduct with an inmate.
Resigned so he can keep his pension ? Give pension to the victims.
This is why qualified immunity needs to be stripped away from police officers
Qualified immunity does not apply to what these two are accused of.

Qualified immunity only works if a grand jury doesn’t find charges. A lot of people are confused about how qualified immunity works. It prevents people found with no criminal charges from getting sued. If a grand jury finds charges then qualified immunity doesn’t apply because a crime was committed.

@@meatpopsicle1567 yeah sure once in a while they get caught. cops around here have been giving EVERY one seat belt tickets. so a bunch of us got together put the word out EVERY time you see a cop NO seat belt or on their phone or not signaling any thing you see them doing that they WILL fine us for call the sheriff non emergency line OR county board members. and it HAS been making a difference here, we see them breaking the law we call in the car number. the first week the county board got over 25 calls 1 week they got over 200 calls.

The deputy is probably more shocked than anyone. It’s rare for cops to be held to the same standards as citizens.

You just never know who is going to do something like this until the first time they get caught. I served with a guy in the military who had passed all the background checks required for his high security clearances and had served with honor aboard submarines. Then one day he tried to abduct a 15 year old girl from her front yard. Nobody would have ever anticipated that in a million years. But he did it and was convicted of a felony.
If he'd been a cop, his buddies would cover it up for him. They only face the music when hiding the crime was unsuccessful.

I guess they do that all the time though and why would that make the news, just another day for cops who don't respect our rights. Maybe if they had fired him when he demanded someone to id that had not committed a crime this incident wouldn't have happened.
Like this was the first time for the two thugs committing these acts. What they were thinking is I have authority and can do what I want as many corrupt cops do and get away with it.
