No Gustav Mahler Symphony gives us a better idea of this cosmic ladder than the Third, in D minor. Composed of six movements, it remains the longest symphony in the standard repertoire, written for a large orchestra including notably masculine and feminine and choirs and a viola solo. His dramatic journey encompasses and unifies nature, man and God. This second movement is music filled with simple beauty and sensuality under a Tempo di menuetto. This part starts very quietly and nothing will disturb this rural picture
of a very refined poetry. Gustav Mahler described it as « the most carefree thing I have ever written, as carefree as only flowers are.
Everything sways and ripples in the air ... like flowers bending on their stems in the wind ». The movement was arranged in the 20th century by Benjamin Britten for a smaller orchestration, entitled « What the Wild Flowers tell me ». Britten stays true to Mahler's symphonic original, but predictably the arrangement, now on a smaller scale, acquires a greater level of intimacy and brings out its Schubertian charm. A melody that seems in harmony with the things of the earth makes me feel like it's raining and sunny all over me all at the same time: a pure moment of happiness! *Lucien*

Arranjo de Britten? 🤔Estranho, parece o mov. original como Mahler escreveu.. a orquestra foi reduzida, é isso?
