- Hey everyone, welcome back to Daily Downshift! Today we are installing something that every Corvette C8 owner should consider buying. These easy-to-install radiator grille covers protect your radiators from damage and any road debris. Big thanks to the folks at radiator grille store for sending us these pieces, they're going to do wonders protecting our already beat up radiators!
why doesn't the car come with this protection? have they forgotten that leaving radiators exposed like this leaves them vulnerable to rocks and asphalt debris? very strange
Seeing you dragging that gold bracelet and bouncing the scissors against the paint gave my OCD a spike. I like the idea of the flat back surface to keep from further damaging the heat exchangers.
Chevy should do that wouldn't cost them nothing
I did this the 1st day I got my car. Easy install be careful when sliding the mesh up behind the bumper the mesh is sharp.
We were surprised at how easy it was, very simple
This is a great addition to the car. I really like it. I think I'm going to get the kit and install it. What a perfect little addition to the car! AF
Zip ties!! On a C8 $80k Vette, I think not!!
One of the best video around the Planet Earth 👏👏👏
One of the first things I did before I started driving my car to keep the fins clean and straight. One thing I like aside from the protection is that it darkens those inlets which makes the car look so much better. Since I have the Z51 I have the side vent protected as well. Just added my UPR Catch Can tonight as well. All about keeping the car protected.
Also I got mine from same place and I might add, these grills should have come on the car from factory!!!!!
Yes, protection aside, we love the darkening stealth factor!
It’s a great idea. I am surprised GM didn’t have the option. The $169 price is high given you can order honeycomb ABS plastic sheets on Amazon for $50-$60. I’d be game for $100 just because they figured out the template but not going that high.
GM has now offered radiator grills as of sept 2023. 399.95 for the parts or 509 for parts and install
I can't wait for you guys to land a new Z06
That really a good idea and it look like a simple fix for protection
Great video of an essential product. Congrats on 10k!
Thank you!
Thank you for getting back to me. That's good to hear. Appreciate that bud.
Erik
Thanks for the content...I'm buying this product!
Happy to help!
You are also mechanic, buen video Amigos 👏👏👏
Nice to see someone address a serious design flaw in the new vettes.
GR8 video! I ordered another version A month ago, but you gave some good tips for install! Thanks!
Yeah, no zip ties that will eventually dry out and fail.. just get the metal grills that come with brackets and your one and done..
Excellent. Thanks for the info. Post it on mid-engine Corvette forum. Some company is ripping vette owners off by selling them a $350 kit that does the same thing.
Do wish you would have shown clear shots of both pieces for sizing.
nKuch!! Needed this video for one of our clients...also a subscriber to your Destiny channel...thanks!
Happy to help!
Reality check these grills aren't meant to have zip ties in place. Thought in place these ties will wear on the grill over time with wind, water, & debris wearing on them. There's gotta be a different way smaller particles will get through.
Looks good! Does this cover interfere with the frunk button? Another company had that disclaimer on their grill. I don’t really want to give up that function. Thanks!
There was no interference with the frunk button, everything was operating as normal.
Good video. I’m a total non do it yourself-Er. I found these in a search. Hoping they do the job. Would prefer if they were a bit more stout. A rock went into our BMW X1 lower driver radiator and it was $2k to fix. So these are good to have.
Will you guys also get the side ones? I want to see how those are installed.
Also I’m looking for some sort of protection like steel to put below the lip to make it a bit more stout as well. Even with the lift package I have hit a few times.
Yes, we'll be getting the side ones as well!
What is your relationship with the seller? Did you pay for the product or are you marketing their products? Relevant information to understand if you are biased. With such a price tag for this product I would be less happy if I had to cut it to fit, like you did!
Air Condition Condenser grills maybe? Those pieces are really going to help control the damage or just minimize the aesthetics of damage..... Hmmm... Smh
Get a catch can upr for c8 best mode too keep your engine clean from direct inyection
Grill Chill install?
What ever happen to the fe3 shocks and lowering the car??
Still something on our list of things to do!
@@DailyDownshift while waiting for the new coilovers you can lower the stock ones. They're made with threaded tubes. CSP lead tech did his before he twin turbo'd his C8. Check it out
@@DailyDownshift Here's the video on the lowering of C8 & race alignment.

Zip Ties on a $80 to $90K Car ? , Naaaaaaaaaaa
They're barely visible and they definitely do the trick!
Did you notice any cooling issues? I wouldn't think there would be any.
No issues at all
You guys are good
Thanks buddy
Nice!
great video!... and chevy couldn't do this because?....
Hi, I have a question about the radiator grill covers you installed. I think it's a great idea. Was wondering if it has had any negative affect on the cooling of the car so far. I want to do it to my car as soon as I get it, but was told by the dealer it might void the warranty. thank you. Erik
Hi, there is no adverse effect of installing this product. The holes are small but no where near small enough to disrupt air flow. I have a hard time believing it would void the warranty, I'd love to hear them justify that.
@@DailyDownshift My dealer said I'd have to sign a waver if I had them installed these.
I'm still on the fence on buying this brand with another one @ $99 for the outside and inside.
The intake I think I'll feel better with the new one coming out the end of April (different company) metal and bolted in, not just flapping in the wind with 120* days softing up the material.
@@rvdano Sounds strange that they would make you sign a waiver for that. But definitely go with whatever you're more comfortable doing!
@@DailyDownshift The dealer feels there would be airflow restriction reason for the waver ordered by the dealer.
Like I mentioned I’m on the fence with who I go with $99 or $169 for the same parts and do it myself.
Or maybe the metal front section bolted in place no zip ties for $299.
Fir sure $169 for the intake metal screen bolted in place both sides no zip ties.
@@dohabandit Thanks for you concern, being almost 69, raced on the NHRA circuit in the 70's thru the 80's I do have a little knowledge on airflow, drove for a living, and towing my 15K lb trailers.
These screens have very little if no airflow restriction. Sure GM is telling everyone this but they are also not fans of people having to correct something they would not do. My Corvette dealer and vette tech installed mine and felt they are a very good idea and have started offering them to their customers.
Even though the aftermarket idiot at my dealer said don't for the same reason you're claiming, but he'll sell everything else that would cause a problem even void the warranty.
Have you actually done any temp and air flow testing with and without these screens ?????
I live in Phx Az outside temps are now 115 + and I haven't had any change with my coolant temps, I'm now considering side intake grills just haven't decided which one to go with.
Now if you had a big a$$ truck and put on one of those big fancy airflow restrictive front grills and/or restrictive bush bumpers then you would have higher temps.
Even a link of one of the GM engineers on one of Rick Corvette Conti RUclips said a daily driver (not track racing) should NOT have any issues and GM is testing which one might be better than the other.
One wonders if GM will FIX this issue in the near future? Without the grill cover, it looks like a new radiator would be in order by a few thousand miles......
Where did you buy it?
Radiatorgrillstore.com
That's G M design for a few bucks they could fix the problem but no they want to charge you a cleaning or replacement GENERAL MOTORS SUCKS
Zip ties. Lol. Gtfoh
