He'll always be an absolute bloody legend. Rollplay got me into D&D, and Geoff was always a big damn star. The running jokes throughout the series were my favourite. I really want to go back and watch all of the seasons now, but dear god that's a lot of content. It's going to take a while.

I listen while gaming, it's a nice change from music and it fills the brain when playing something monotonous (like PoE for example, I can play that with like 1/3rd of my brain, so the rest gets bored).

Swan Song was fantastic, Dark Heresy was fantastic, everything Geoff was a part of was fantastic. Between this and his esport casting style, that man had such a flawless, effortless way at making a moment hilarious I honestly thought the original tweet about his passing would end in a punchline. A massive loss to all of the communities he was involved in. Absolutely won't be forgotten.

To a MUCH lesser degree, I had that feeling Zeke talking about with him.
He was streaming XCOM and taking sub name suggestions, and I suggested some stupid name. I don't even remember what it was. But he laughed so hard, and ended up actually joking with Anna about it on stream.
And I was so happy. I managed to make Geoff, this man who made me break down laughing through so many RollPlay moments, laugh with something stupid I said.

    • @thebattleovercome
      @thebattleovercome 5 лет назад +13

same. he was playing crusader kings 2 if not for the first time then it was early in his learning process and i made a stupid joke about how i had spent over a hundred hours failing at everything available in the game and the fact that he laughed at some dumb joke of mine made me way more proud than it probably should have.

One of my favorite Geoff moments is from Solum when Alice grapples the werewolf, and Victarian starts hammering the silver coin into its head.
Then Neal looking on in disbelief unable to do anything about Geoff literally shattering his werewolf mystery with his smithing hammer it was glorious!

No joke, Rollplay is how I found out about d&d and I was watching for about a year before actually joining a d&d game myself. Geoff was actually the reason I joined a game cuz he made it all just look so fun and his sense of humor was something I really enjoyed. Swan Song and Solum were my favorite part of youtube and twitch and really got me trough some rough times :/ As sad as I am, I can't even imagine how Anna is feeling D:
    RIP legend

Shortly after Alpharius's (sp?) introduction to Swan Song, there was a bit where Geoff started google translating everything he said into Swahili and the entire cast lost their shit. That is one of a few bits of Roll Play my fiancée has seen, but she still regularly threatens to roll up characters who speak exclusively Swahili. Going to miss Geoff a great deal.

Even though I heard about this on sunday, I still am in tears every time I hear about this. Geoff was such a fantastic individual, and while I never knew him personally, his wit and humour brought so much joy and happiness to my life. I don't think there was ever a rollplay show, a podcast, or anything else that Geoff interacted with that I didn't love and enjoy, because he was just the type of person that could make anything fantastic.

The original RP, and him, JP , ryan, Jenn and Neal dragged me into this world. And the way he (and most of you) played, played it as a video game, as a movie, so much awesome. Ive loved everything he did since. He hasnt quit life, he moved on like his character Mr Sicarian did, to carry on in some other place. rip sir.

All the way back to StarCraft: Brood War when he was part of Team USA, to SC2, to RollPlay, to Warhammer... I always felt we had a lot in common. Such a shame to see him go way too early.

I started watching the original RollPlay back when I was an avid watcher of TB and was amazed and very excited when Dark Heresy happened. Me and my friends went on to play Dark Heresy, 4th edition dnd and then pathfinder - the 4th edition and pathfinder game is still going on and off to this day though with only 2 of the 6 original members. That was also when I started watching the games that Geoff and TB would cast for Starcraft. They were my favorite casters for that and got me interested in watching Starcraft, even recently I would often click on Starcraft videos to see if it was Geoff casting. Now both of them are gone and the world is worse off for it.

My most memorable moment was in the original Roll Play. Party was going through the snowy mountain and getting attacked by a White dragon. The White dragon incapacitated the whole party. Everyone was immobile in snow and freezing. JP and Gen, bregor were all low HP and decided to tunnel deep in the snow and play dead. Geoff fucking went full man mode and 1 shot crit the dragon saving the entire party from an obvious death.
    RIP Geoff

I loved watching the original Rollplay crew, and I watched every single JP show until the end of Swan Song and West Marches.
They got me into DnD, and it was Geoff and the crew who thought me what DnD could be and what kind of players there are.
I am now leading my own campaign as a DM.. recently started DMing, and I would not be where I am without them, and without Geoff.
I was shocked to hear of his passing. I had been wearing my swan song t shirt just the night before during my session.
I am really glad that the Rollplay community respects him this much. Rest in Piece! Show the other side what an amazing guy you are. You have earned the respect of so many people on this side.

Swansong was how I found this channel, it was and still is my favorite RP show that I have watched and Geoff was a big part of that. His energy, passion and humour with Rp and everything else (I especially loved his Warhammer 40k passion). While the rest of the cast members here are brilliant, and the ongoing shows are fantastic (really it is impressive how you all build consistently enjoyable content across all the various shows), the loss of Geoff will be felt. RIP man, may your dice rolls be critical successes in whatever happens next, or if that's it for us, may the energy you release back into the earth get recycled into as big of a fun-loving nerd as yourself.

Geoff was one of my favorite people to see on Rollplay. While I love everyone that has ever been on one of your shows, JP, there's always been a special place in my heart for Geoff. Every time I saw his face on screen, I knew the whole crew (and audience for that matter) would have a great time. Like Adam was mentioning, I got into tabletop RPGS by watching your original Rollplay show with Neil and with Swan Song. The first tabletop game I ever Dm'd was modeled after Swan Song. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I'll never forget Geoff. It's a sad era indeed. Love you, Geoff.

I'm behind on CoS so I thank you for releasing this portion on its own. Most of my exposure to Geoff was the phenomenal work he did on this channel but anytime I caught him casting and discussing Starcraft or Warhammer40k elsewhere he was every bit as funny and clever as he was on Rollplay. I bust a gut laughing many times throughout Swan Song and the OG Rollplay DnD show largely thanks to his magnificent comedic timing and insane roleplaying logic. JP hit the nail on the head about how he was a shining example of being a total nerd without being overbearing about it. I really should go back and watch the rest of Blades at some point or even rewatch some Swan Song. May he rest in peace.

I've only really seen Geoff in connection with roleplaying shows, but he was special. I've more than once been close to falling into the trap of believing thathe was only cabable of being, pardon my wording, but I'm not sure how else to say it right now, a low-brow douche. One of those guys with the emotional maturity of an 8-year-old. Some of the characters he's played that were basically just walking talking fart and sex jokes with personalities that only seemed to frustrate and annoy me, probably partly by just not speaking to my sense of humour. But then there were characters like Mr. Sicarian.
Geoff wasn't limited to crude and/or low-brow humour. He had a depth to him and an ability to turn even a goofy situation into a truly touching one. He had an incerdibly wide range of themes and moods in, not just individual scenes, but also over-arching narratives that he did SO well. I'm not sure I've seen another roleplayer being so consistently able to let funny characters have emotional or serious moments, or vice-versa, without them feeling out of place, awkward, or otherwise 'wrong' or weird.
He will be missed. I will miss seeing him on the shows...
My love and support goes to everyone out there.
May he forever dine in the meadhalls on Sigrid.

We probably battled a lot on the ladders for BW without even knowing each other back in the day. It was his solid characters that he made come to life, along with JP especially and the early guests on Roleplay who prevented me from taking my life after I had a stroke. After even more bad shit it came to a head again... and I noticed he had started streaming on twitch and I got in early one day when he's just chatting with the audience.
It was that he noticed. He took a moment of his and his entire audience time to say some nice words to me. Geoff, I owe you a bottle of Blue Label.

I was so looking forward to him playing on Destiny's new show and just how that interaction of personalities would play out. I loved his take on things too, actually seemed very unique amongst many others who are already in a community of unique people, if that makes sense. Whole thing just sucks. Look after yourselves people!

One of the hardest times I ever laughed as Geoff (with Day9 laughing because his laughter is so contagious) ranting about horses on SotG. Or what is Artosis. Nobody could just let it rip like Geoff when he got on a roll.
