I was actually so sad when I saw Josh struggling. I was just like “he does so much for the band and we kinda don’t realize it and take him for granted”

I see Oldies Station as not just a letter to the fans, but also a letter from Tyler to his younger self. He started writing music in highschool at a time when he was not only struggling with faith, but also suicidal ideation (as seen in many of the self-titled songs). That theme has carried strongly through all their music until SAI (where Tyler has said he partly made that album more upbeat to help himself and others stay sane during COVID quarantines, but the lyrics are still very dark).
The song starts off describing how life feels when you're younger, not sure where you're going, what you're doing, struggling to live and WANT to live, and slowly progresses upward. Not getting impatient at red lights, hearing songs from your childhood on the "Oldies Station" (showing you've survived long enough for that to even happen), having that "old fight for survival" down (in my interpretation: the fight to keep living in the face of mental illness through relapses, grief, and other rough patches), and him watching his oldest daughter's first dance recital. He's lived through all these things he probably never thought of, and he's telling younger Tyler and their younger fans to keep pushing, even when it doesn't feel worth it, so they can live to see these moments and more.
When Tyler said Oldies Station and Snap Back are songs about where he is, mentally, it seems like he means he's content. He's lived long enough to have reasons to stay living, even when he falls back into old habits, and in turn those old habits don't bother him as much as they used to. Oldies Station is a beautiful song about surviving long enough to finally love and see the beauty in life, and it's sad it doesn't get the love it deserves.
I'm writing this as someone who struggles to even want to get up every day. I think even the fans who prefer darker/sadder/depressed music should listen to this song multiple times.

Same struggles here brother, I I like tøp sad songs, but when I heard this song on the album premiere, it hit me like a truck man, i cried, Scaled and Icy released in a time I was "happier" my life was more stable and now Clancy is released in a time I struggle about the future but no so much like when I was younger having much more dark thoughts and hearing Oldies Station is like a big hug, its one of my favorites songs of the band.
      Keep pushing through 💪🏻

@@renmarques The first time I really listened and paid attention to the lyrics and heard "You're in the crowd at her first dance recital" I legitimately teared up, and I don't really cry to music at all. I don't think I'm personally in a place where I'm ready for that song to mean as much to me as it should, but I hope I will be someday. I hope I live long enough to relate to it 💙

the last part of this song always makes me emotional and after that part about being in the crowd of her first recital you can hear tyler shouting "ro! ro!" (his elder daughter rosie) like look how far he has come

this part makes me tear up every time, without fail. Tyler went from writing 'prove me wrong' to this. it's genuinely so heartwarming.

@@kayotikLOVE the song ‘Prove Me Wrong’ ❤ Yeah it also chokes me up to hear Tyler speaking so honestly & vulnerably to us…To me this is a song of hope, delivered from the voice of experience. What a special band 🥹

There's a line here that really reminds me of Stressed Out. "As you move about, you learn to tune them out, but they say they continue to grow". Both our fears, and our noses, grow forever, meaning we can never really stop seeing it in our periphery. It's very similar to "I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink, but now I'm insecure and I care what people think".

This is the one I've been waiting for. The first time I watched it, I nearly broke down when I saw Josh beginning to struggle just to keep up. This is the top 1 or 2 for me on this album. Thank you!

This song had really grown on me and might be the favorite song in the album.. grown old myself and understand how this track feels like. Most days take a lot of just pushing on though it all. ❤😢

The actual footage was done with a steady cam. If you watch the behind the scenes footage part of the video you can see that camera wrapped in plastic.

I would love to hear your reaction to Tyler’s lyrics in that last portion starting with “you don’t quite mind how long red lights are taking” and your take on his progress with mental health.

This song might just be one if not the one that is my fav of the album. A lot of things were happening in my life and I was considering to take my life yet again, I even had been SH again. And like all of tøps albums, it came on the right moment. This one song hit hard as I'm struggling with growing older and changes and feeling so lost and hopeless, losing people close and having to keep going anyway. This is like one of those hugs that allow you to hide your face and cry it all out. They always makes me feel like there is hope in the end, that it all may be worth it ❤️‍🩹🥺

As an almost 40 y/o husband and father, and having lost siblings….I felt very connected to this song. No matter what happens in life you have to do what you can and keep moving forward, especially when you have others that depend on you.

You know, I had assumed that the "wipe" you mentioned was just a case of them filming themselves, maybe a case of poor editing, but I should have realized, once you commented on the peripheral vision line, that even in their simplest videos, there's nothing sloppy or accidental about TOP music videos...
