    Dear sir,
    Reverse breakdown voltage of silicon is -75V and of germanium is -50V. Here (-75)is smaller than (-50) then how can it be greater?

      Negative sign indicates reverse voltage not negative voltage. That's why we say silicon can sustain upto 75 v in reverse bias compared to germanium which can sustain 50 v in reverse bias condition. Hence si is preferred over ge.

      In RB the current ( small & negligible ) will not increase even though the voltage is increased it remains constant…. That’s why the current is independent of applied voltage in RB condition.

    Sir Why abrupt changr occurre in current?(in both cases)

      It is not abrupt change.... in forward bias diode start conducting from 0.7 or 0.3v hence current increases with respect to voltage. In reverse bias the current increases due to junction breakdown.

    why is the current 0 for the forward voltage less than knee voltage?

      The current will not be zero... small amount of current is present due to non conduction of diode.
      Silicon Diode will conduct only form 0.7v and germanium diode conducts from 0.3v in forward bias.

    Voltage drop across Diode can only be knee voltage.If we apply more than knee voltage where does other voltage drop occurs other than diode voltage drop
