Love when fighters show restraint and don’t pummel a clearly unconscious opponent. Lyoto’s a good man, he wants to win, he doesn’t want to permanently brain damage his opponents.

The style that many people was mocking at the time. I told people in forums "don't get fooled by the point sparring, those guys could do serious damage if they actually hit you", bacause I trained in Japan that type of karate and I faced very fast and strong guys.
When I watched Machida's fights it was refreshing and also he proved my point. Because those guys are precise aiming. Only that in sports karate they don't hit with full power because they don't want to damage each other.
The guys who mocked that kind of karate as a "dance" had to ate their words.

It's crazy to see the kind of eras we've already been through with MMA. I was a kid when UFC was still no holds barred, wild west thing. Then Pride came up, UFC became more legit. Saw the difference in fighters and how they acted. Basically a tough man competition at first with the kind of over the top personalities and giant egos. Then came the true athletes, still early when you could still have more of a specific style but they were fighters coming in to test their skills and be the champion, less ego. Now we're in an Era where the skill level is just through the roof and these guys have to be way more well rounded and complete but we'll see them sometimes agree to fully disregard a ground game and just fully slug it out. Way more ego in and out of the ring. I'm amazed with the athletes abilities but a little disappointed with the theatrics.

Watching his fight with Jones again made me realize what a moster this guy really was. Not to underrate a fantastic fighter like Jones but I think Lyoto was doing great in the first two rounds. Unfortunately for him, he got impatient, overconfident and just careless with his strikes as fight went on. Jones and his corner realized this set the trap. Irony is Lyoto is the best at getting his opponents commit with his evasive footwork and counter them. Chris Weidman also figured Lyoto out. He didn't take that extra step Lyoto counters and messed his whole gameplan. Great fighter
