"This is just a short little update." Proceeds to drop teasers for a glorious Mason Bogie, awesome character art, the first look at diesels, and announces music streaming while also delivering top-notch B-roll. Never stop being so awesome, y'all :)
I can't speak for everyone, but if it's something you guys want to talk about, I'm a software engineer and would love to hear more about the technical aspects behind the curtain. It's one thing to have a pretty game, but another to have a stable one.
I’m so glad that There are people dedicated to record these sounds from the actual D&SNG. I’m so exited to see what wacky paint schemes people put the DL535s and the K28s in.
This "minor update" is more interesting than many games' major updates. Henry looks like a great character. :) Thanks to all the team for all the hard work.
Very exciting to see the new DL535 model. Narrow gauge diesels are quite neat. It's a shame that all narrow gauge in Canada was 3'6", so no hope for Canuck representation.
The model for Henry Sampson looks so good! Can't wait to see more! Also I boogie'd seeing that Mason Bogie on my Twitter timeline! Narrow Gauge Mason Bogies have been a fascinating machines in history and I love seeing them!
Loved hearing that you were able to make it out to Durango. Loved even more seeing Russell's name at the end of the video. He's done fantastic things for the steam community in both Colorado and back here in Iowa.
1:00 the Mason bogie, built by the same works who birthed the B&O’s William Mason. For anyone who doesn’t know the basis of the Mason bogie, it’s essentially a development of the British Single Fairlie design.
Mason bogy, when you get excited by all the talk of Garrets, Meyer and Mallets, but mom says "we have an articulated locomotive at home". Jokes aside I'm actually super keen to see it, its a very interesting take on a tank engine and something that generally gets less attention than the newer and larger types, and often the gameplay is more engaging pushing the limits of more limited (and honestly indeed, flawed) engines than styles that would be widely copied as to be a workhorse on a great many lines.
My bucket list of 3 foot gauge diesels would have the DL535 at the top of the list. It's an Alco, it 3 foot gauge, it's six axle, and it's an Alco. Number two would be a GA8. The Shay of EMD's That iconic EMD sound, but with traction motors mounted under the frame, one driving each truck, pretty unique, and cool. Number three on the list would be SP number 1. SP narrow gauge, need I say more? That Mason Bogie takes me back t my Dad's model layout. Mason Bogie was a hit with people, it's really unique.
This game is looking more amazing by the day. I'm currently studying for game development, and working on a passion project like this would be an absolute dream. Please keep up the incredible work. And just a huge applaus and thank you to the entire dev team!
They have not made a decision yet regarding if the game will be released early access or not. Personally I would prefer a full completed game release over early accses even if that means waiting longer to play it but that's just me.
Henry Samson looks a lot less creepy than John Railroadson from that other game. In fact I'd say he's not creepy at all, but actually rather dashing. Here's hoping we get a good variety of character models, both male and female and from a variety of races and ethnicities. This game is gonna be so good!
As a coder, I find the optimization and such side interesting to talk about lol, but I also get the many reasons it's not. Love seeing all the progress!
I hope we can also get more dynamic character customization (or I guess creation) into the game to actually be able to play yourself in the game aswell. It feels more authentic, especially in multiplayer when you look like you.
While there will be the ability to change hair and clothes they have said that they do not plan on having a bethestha/fallout style face or body sculptor as that is out of scope.
@bluepoppy1026 wasn't thinking of Rockstar games levels of customization, just something more along the lines of model swapping and color changing from a variety of options, basically their current plan on a broader scope.
I am so excited to finally see some narrow gauge diesels. Very under represented in train sims. I have always loved the dl 535 and the class 111. May be if freelance open world building is still gonna be a thing we could make US gypsum.
Well I think my most favourite type of locomotive to plan century of steam would be the 4_4_0 American type locomotive, since I can't put me finger on it this is something quaint about those sorts of engines and the whistles have so much character and personality behind them it's honestly quite amazing, in fact I can remember when I watched the announcement trailer and towards the end of that there was a sound of a locomotive whistle that was so beautiful and at the same time haunting you would swear it was whistled by a angel, and as for the music that you guys are putting into century of steam I actually love over the waterfall which again I think that's one of my most favorite types of musics it lends itself so perfectly to wherever your warming your engine up and around house or just doing some light switching Duty and the train yard but either way love the work you guys are putting in
The only thing that is missing for me is a Heisler locomotive to be on the game Other than that i'll be sure to get this game as soon as it launches cuz GODDAMN IT LOOKS GOOD
@@LadyAleena202 i want you to explain to the class exactly what your definition of woke is and why you think having women in a video game fits that description.
@@LadyAleena202 oh boy I hope you never find out about all of the women that not only worked in railroads historically but also owned entire railroad companies. Would be a real shame if you found out that the Rio Grande had an all-female section gang in the early 1900s, or that Union Pacific employed women as telegraphers in Utah before the Transcontinental Railroad was even completed, or the women who worked in engine and mechanical jobs during both World War I and World War II, or all of the inventions that are integral to railroad operations that were patented by women. That sure would suck, wouldn't it.
to answer the original question, yes a cast of several men and women, each with multiple clothing sets, hats, and things like hair or beard options where appropriate, will be available for players to choose from. There is historical precedent for a diverse cast and it's also just an objectively good thing to have for a broad player base
So I guess if its more than steam, a suggestion, CN on Newfoundland. They had kinda odd narrow gauge GMD/EMD locomotives that were kinda a SD kinda a road switcher. Before that they ran steam but I'm not very familiar with what that was. They ran full sized rolling stock off the barge and swapped the trucks to run down main
The Newfoundland Railway operated on 3ft 6in gauge track. CoS is exclusively 3ft gauge only. Thus the Newfoundland Railway and its rolling stock are not in scope for CoS.
Sounds great and looks great, and if you guys plan on doing a map in Northern Michigan, I can give you guys some pictures of the old narrow Guage line by me.
I beg of you to look at the dinky narrow gauge in Fennimore, Wisconsin, it's in the driftless region, which is the most unique in the US, as it was the only place where glaciers didn't come through.
Love the shorter updates too. I've still not found the time to watch the previous longer update, even though it's been out for a month. The shorter one however? I was able to watch it within a day
I’m so hyped for the DL535! And I’m really curious as to what options it’ll have, do y’all think there will be representations of some of the Export DL535’s? Because some of the ones down in Peru and Argentina are so insanely cool!
Will there be steam engines from the White Pass & Yukon or the ET&WNC? Cause I notice the DL535 that was used on the White Pass. Will we see other white pass content like wp&y 2-8-0 69 and wp&y 2-8-2s 73, 190 and so on?
Are there any plans to implement voice acting, either for tutorials or the in-game characters themselves? If so, what might be the auditioning process when it came time for it?
This is such a tiddler, I don't think it has been weaned yet and shouldn't have been taken from its mother 😅 The next one is really interesting and worth the wait, but it is so hard to now have to wait 2 months between "legal size" updates. Hoping full release is not too far off, but as new rollingstock looks to be added, who knows just how long we will be left hanging. Hang in there, the Mason detail look is well worth it. ❤

To me the character model looks a bit too cartoony. Don't get me wrong, I like games that go for style, but it should be a consistent style. With the environments and engines in your game all looking very realistic I am not sure if having characters with exaggerated facial features and big eyes won't look a bit out of place. Looking forward to seeing him in the actual game, maybe it comes together in a good way in the end. At least he seems happy and doesn't have that 1000 yard stare of perpetual misery I'm used to from a certain other train game.
I doubt this question will get answered, but how many a-historical character customizations will there be? Cuz I wont feel like myself unless I'm wearing a hoodie . .
