I'm watching this as part of my art history class, but it's also good as a glimpse into cultures that aren't my own--past or present. Which is to say, each and every one. A lot of things have happened in my life, and any connection I might have had to my own heritage and culture was lost. Or rather, my own heritage is foreign.
At the same time though, I've literally re-created myself as an individual from the ground up--identity, values, and such. And in watching all these videos, along wit connecting with different kinds of people (i.e. Muslims, Christians, people of different ethnicity and cultural backgrounds), I've already found a bit of myself in pretty much everyone and everything. These ancient cultures are no exception. All of this is important, especially today, with the current state of humanity and civilization. Even as someone with no real home or culture--who has to create those from the ground up--it's easy to see how we're all of each other.
I'm still trying to figure out how to go about this, since proper channels don't really exist. But maybe I'm not the only one who feels that humanity needs a different path, and a different direction for themselves and their civilization. Looking to these ancient cultures and drawing from them is one way to go about it.
Learning from the past to create a prosperous future is important.

The colour of the brick is an interesting touch. At one point, lapis was considered more precious than gold. Perhaps veneering the brick with copper to give it the appearance of lapis, and using the term 'pure blue stone,' was to show the sheer wealth of the city and make people think it was the more expensive precious stone?
