Please look into Tom’s Restaurant in Prospect Heights. It’s been around since 1936, making it one of the oldest diners inn the city. They’re know for their pancakes and flavored butters. My fav is the Pastrami & Eggs, the pastrami rivals Katz’s
Why don’t you help your fellow Ukrainians?
Astoria has great diners. You should try Jackson Hole (featured in Goodfellas) and also Michael's. Both are awesome. Jackson Hole has NYCs best burger!
Someone already suggested the Jackson Hole diner in Astoria. Great Burgers but my favorite breakfast there is their Western Omelette. They are huge and come with home fries (of course). And yes you can see photos from the filming of Goodfellows. They have booth seating with your own juke box. Last stop on the W or N train then a short walk down Astoria Blvd to heaven!
John’s Cafe on 44th and second is a UN neighborhood institution. Along with Keats’s Bar down the block.
NYC diners are a dying breed! Glad you highlighted these classics
Thanks Greg
So sad! I love a good diner. It’s America at its best
Come to the Midwest !👏🏾
Try Jackson Hole Diner in Astoria/East Elmhurst off of Grand Central Pkwy near LaGuardia Airport.
Ben's comment about his dish tasting like Jollibee shows his young age. American diners preceded Jollibee, not the other way around. Also, Jollibee is what Filipinos think American food is with their menu of fried chicken, burgers, fries, "spaghetti", etc.
New Jersey has great diners and many. Yes, I'd like to see a video of it, and perhaps, invite Mary Jane again and Adriana to the food tour so you can try several dishes.
Love Jackson hole! Only been to the one in Manhattan though
I love watching American classic food lifestyle. In America we have everything here! We got everything in NYC! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
I moved to NYC a few months ago from a small town in CT What a Difference 🤣🤣
As a southern boy born and raised in SC, I lived and worked in the greater NYC area for almost 15 years (lived in Westchester County and was in and out of the city at least 5 to six times a week). I embraced the whole suburban/urban NYC/Tri State lifestyle and considered myself a true New Yorker. I moved back to SC in 2003 but hardly a day goes by when I'm not slightly homesick and nostalgic for my beautiful NYC, it's atmosphere, architecture, neighborhoods, culture and especially the food. What I probably miss the most are the independent (usually Greek owned) local, traditional diners. No matter what time of the day or year, wherever you are, there is a warm, inviting (sometimes gruff) local diner with strong hot coffee (iced in the summer), breakfast 24 hrs a day, usually a full cocktail bar 24/7 and a somewhat encyclopedic menu of Greek, Italian, American and Jewish specialties. This post illustrates all of these things and more and brings back so many wonderful memories. Love your channel and watch it often - thank you!
Fantastic comment
what does SC mean?
@@tanyichen8763 South Carolina(?)
@@rustybearden1800 oh thanks! Sorry im not from the US...
Personally, I can’t wait for you to make a video about diners in New Jersey! They’re such an institution there.
Thanks for having me on your channel Jon, and for sharing with me a little of the best job in the world! 😊
Grazie!
He better be taking you to Tops!
Yay! My two favorite youtubers doing a video together!! I loved this so much.
OMG!!!!!!!!! Is she single??????
So true. I love my NYC but what few diners we have can't hold a candle to any of Jersey's diners.
I lived in NY for 27 years. Now I'm in Florida. I really miss the diners I grew up around.
Greek Diners are the best, something I really miss after moving south. So yes, bring on the NJ diner tours.
Big Nick's Burger & Pizza Joint on Bway and 76 st was the best diner I ever are it. Terrific food, good prices and an enormous menu. I really miss it. RIP Big Nick, our friend. Everyone who ate there knows what I mean. He came to my girl friend's opening art solo show and he used to give us free deserts. I made CD's for him of 50's rock n roll that he played all the time in his restaurant.
I have an easy job as well. I help a few guys out who struggle with mental issues by hanging out with them and giving them their meds. I also work the night shift. So they go to bed pretty early on, and I get to hang out on my phone and even sleep on my job. It’s great.
Bravo Mary Jane ! And Long live the American Diner. 24/7, especially the midnite to 8 am shift keeps the USA on the road rollin'. A haven for the cops, firemen, emts, trucker, taxi drivers, and weary motorist travelers to find a cup of coffee, good meal, clean restroom, and a pitstop to rest while on a long haul. Many thanks to the Greeks for founding contributions to this industry. Those 8 oz takeout paper coffee cups are adorned with columns and images of the old time dieties against a background of blue and white, the colors of the Greek national banner, celebrating the grace and beauty of their women and strength and dynamism of their men while cooking at the hot grill, cleaning the greasy spoons, and offering hospitality to one and all. Thanks Here Be Barr.
Love this. I paid 2 visits to the Tick Tock Diner on my visit in September. Went here for breakfast on the 2nd morning (had to have bagels on the 1st morning) and because the staff were so nice and the food was enjoyable, we went back for the 2nd visit on our penultimate morning and sat in that exact seat you guys are in. OMG take me back. Best week ever and seeing this just makes me want to visit again.
Food looks amazing! so mouthwatering.
Great video! Would love to see NJ diner video next! Stay safe and be well!
Another really good food video John, put a smile on my face. As mentioned before didn’t think you had done this type of restaurant food before and it is Classic American fare that tourist associate the US with. We simply don’t have these in the UK or Europe. Shame they are dying out a bit but hopefully they keep going and when tourism comes back on storm more people will go to them. Good you showed a variety of slightly different diners to. Had never heard of the TikTok diner before. There not places you want to go to all the time but for a once in a while visit they are worth doing. Would be interested in seeing a New Jersey video on these. Going back to your roots so to speak.
Love your videos John.. very easy to watch n follow ..good knowledge and tips that can't be ignored 👌
these videos are so well put together! as a new yorker, I appreciate the scenes. great job people. keep em coming
This video warms my Jersey Girl heart!! Tick Tock Diner is a tradition for my mom and I before we go see a concert at The Garden, so I love that it was included! The New Yorker is our usual hotel, so it's very conveniently-located :)
Diners are the gifts of America's old fashioned favorite foods that parents and grandparents made for us. We have the Famous Mickey's Diner and a few others here in Minneapolis/St.Paul Minnesota. The 🥞 pancakes and waffles you were eating looked at amazing
Don’t forget Tom’s Restaurant where Seinfeld was filmed in Morningside Heights near Columbia University.
YES! this video is great! i love diner food, please do that Jersey diner video thatd be amazing!
WoW! Wonderful video 👌👌Beautiful sharing 👍👍
Thank you my friend. I love this experience. Woww, super foods and a mix to American-Italian is perfect. Have a super week.
Great vlog. Breakfast the best meal of the day. 🕶️
I went to Rutgers New Brunswick when my parents lived in Wayne in Passaic County. It would be such a nostalgia trip for me to see you getting all kinds of diner food at various places. Fries and gravy, Greek salad. All the comfort foods I remember, esp. late at night after our high school finished our musicals for the year.
Shout out to the Metro Diner on the UWS...I used to live across the street from it back in the day.
Great vid. Even more excited for May now! Got the first 2 jotted down and will definitely be going there (especially late at the 24/7 one after a rooftop bar)! Thanks for your vids - really helpful!
I lived in NYC for 45 years, have been downtown thousands of times, have gone to many diners in NYC, and I'm in shock that I never saw or heard of the Pearl st Diner.
Always a thumbs up from me. Thanks for more great ideas on where to eat. Surviving Diners in NYC.
Great video - looking forward to th NJ version 👍🏼
Yet another well executed video Jon. You definitely have the pulse of New York. Being in South Florida, diners are far and few between, and don't hold a candle to the quality of food you get in the northeast. Keep up the good work, and all the best to the family. Your friend Mike in Florida.
I LOVED Tick Tock diner as a kid, and I was today year's old when I found out its a chain. I thought it was lost to me forever when we moved to Texas, there's no reason to be in Belleville, NJ ever again. But this location is 2 blocks from my hotel in nyc and now I am SO excited to go! Thanks so much for this video!
Looking forward to your jersey diners video
I really enjoyed this video and what she said in the video about italian food shes right because im italian too 100 % agreed. I subscribed to mary jane's channel. Thanks again for a great video
You are so right, nothing like diner coffee!! The very best...
Great video! I am just watching this video today after returning from our NYC trip and we literally had breakfast at Pearl diner before heading to the airport! Definitely recommended 👌🏽
Ben the sequence at 2:50 paired with the piano music was superb. It brought a tear to my eye. Thanks
Coming from a LI perspective, nothing speaks more diner than the Greeks. Beautiful people, delicious food, 10 pages of whatever you'd imagine. For me it was either, breakfast (eggs/omelet hashbrowns/homefries both great, either involving bacon and melting cheese, aka American), cheeseburger deluxe, or a giant salad. One of the greatest matzoh ball soups I enjoyed at the diner. Guiltily I never delved into the specials which I'm sure would've been amazing, that was due to timing and $ constraints. You can't go wrong with a solid meal at a diner on a budget, you simply can't.
When you say diner, I think Greeks👉 ❤️❤️❤️🤗👍
Exactly! Americans thinking they're the best at everything pfft
Great video ❤️
I’m moving to NYC from New Zealand in a months time… thank you so much for your videos, they’ve been a life saver getting prepped and planning
I used to live a few blocks away from Bel Aire diner!! Soo good! 💚 Was hoping to see this on the list!
Can't go wrong with Diners, big food small prices!
Hey. In a few days i'll travel to New York to visit my aunt and i'm just crazy about your Videos. There are so many things you let us know about this great City. Thanks for that 👍
I love 50's themed Diners so much!
Love diner food! I really want to check out the colonade diner in staten island
Would love to see more diner videos! That was great :)
I’d love to see the NJ diner tour.
Great food at prices that can't be beat!!!
Can't wait to try this. I'm in NYC May 9th - 16th.
Great, great video. I miss these old timey diners so much and just the simple classic American food menu. I remember the fantastic Cheyenne Diner on 34th St way over on the West side and the tiny Jones Diner on Great Jones St., both long gone now.
My daughter and I had breakfast at Tick Tock. The lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberries was phenomenal! Thanks for the recommendation.
We just visited two of the diners, Tick Tock and The Pearl. Thank you very much for the great advise.
Love diners and breakfast anytime of the day , that food looks great , thank you Jon for the video , good to see WASMJ , best wishes from this Jersey girl xoxo
JON, your Diner vids, are my favorites of all time .
The breakfast potatoes in a Jersey dinner are just great. Especially when it's just plain but crisped up. And you didn't mention the desserts in a diner! The cakes and pies and pastries. Definitely look forward to a Jersey diner video. I've got 2 good ones just within a mile of my house.
I like that video soooo soooo mucccchhh!
Amazing 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
John, just an hour and a half north of you is the world famous Roscoe Diner in Roscoe , NY. Every time I visit NYC I always stop there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. One time I saw Mark Harmon from NCIS there.
Coming to NYC with the fam in May gonna have to check out some of these diners!
I really love the Chelsea Square Diner also!
I liked this video, and I say yes, definitely do more diner videos in all the Boroughs.
Good Morning,
Yes, at some point please do a New Jersey diner video.
Thank you.
Great video, I love New York & will be returning in May to to do my first NYC Vlog 😝 best city in the world 🌎
I love tick tock. We stayed in the new yorker and are doing so again in the summer so its breakfast there every morning. Those window seats are amazing for watching the world go by
You nailed it.
Yes please do a New Jersey diner video. That would be epic!
I love breakfast so this was fun to watch. I feel like I gained weight just watching this.☕🍳🍴
Yes to a New Jersey diner video!
My stepmom grew up in New Jersey. She loved going to diners
Appetizing diner reviews!! Hope diners are not a dying breed. If you get the chance, check out the Square Diner in Tribeca..not as fancy as what you reported, but you get a Square meal at a Square price.
Diners are great to go to with a group so there is something for everybody.
NJ diners are great too.
Generally great value. Also therecare healthy options mixed in
Thumbs up.
I'm in Canada, but I definitely want to see a NJ diners video...
Diner food is comfort food.... Love to see how different each place is.
Variety is the spice of life! Cheers
Dinners are amazing man especially if they have unlimited pineapple juice
Nais Sidi! :)
When we came to New York last year for the first time. We ate at The Brooklyn Diner on West 43rd St. By Time Square.
Woot woot! Mickeys Diner! A twin cities staple… I hate to admit this but as a Minnesota native, I’m probably one of the few that’s never eaten there 🤣 loved this video!
great video! would love to see a "Diners in New Jersey" video!
In six weeks our trip goes to New York for two weeks, thank you very much for your inspiration 👍
Yes. A video on diners in New Jersey would be kool.
Being in a Diner setting is such a vibe :0
We visited The Square Diner, 5 mins from Ghost busters Fire Station on our first trip to NYC last month. awesome! Highly recommended, THE best eggs benedict I've ever had! 😊
My go to when I lived in East Elmhurst was the Buccaneer Diner. Wonderful service and great food!
it was kitchen nightmares?? wtf
I could watch your videos all day for a period of time.
I went to NYU for college and my favorite diner was Waverly Restaurant. We went there with my family and my grandparents before graduation.
I've had 4 visits to NYC and usually stay at the New Yorker, which is directly above the Tick Tock diner.. It's a must visit for any meal, any time of the day or night.. it is never as quiet as it was in this video though..! Great food, great staff and, for NYC not too pricey either.. great review.. keep them coming.👍🏴
I always stay at the New Yorker when I come to NYC. Thanks for featuring the Tick Tock Diner! One of my favourite places to eat in the city - no matter what time of day or night.
Love New York or NJ diner food! I got hungry watching this.
Tom’s Restaurant also inspired the Suzanne Vega song because she grew up in that neighborhood.
Hi, love your videos! Hope you can do one soon on Washington Mews and other Mews around the city, just an idea!
Definitely would like to see a jersey diner vid!
Love a diner breakfast. Eggs over easy, home fries style potatoes and rye toast FTW!
Jon I will make sure to eat at a diner during my next visit to NYC. Please make a video of a New Jersey diner.
Please do NJ diner one. It was a major staple of growing up there and almost all were open 24/7. Unfortunately some of the ones I love the most are closed. Pilgrim Diner in Cedar Grove is open still. Should check it out.
Please, I would love a NJ diner video! :)
We were in the city yesterday and went to tick tock! It was good! The crazy waffle and pancake options are only available at breakfast and we went for dinner but it was still good! Thanks for the recs!!!
Went to Tick Tock twice in June on our trip. It was delicious! We also went to Skylight Diner at 34th and 9th, they were very good too.
Me and my sister ate twice at Tick Tock both bfast and dinner on our june visit last year. Great meals both times...
My fav diner is Times Square. It’s a small cozy spot with great food.
If you are ever in the dc area check out silver diner. It’s an elevated modern style diner with the old school look.
My favs:
- City Diner (Bwy/90 st)
- Washinton sq Diner (6 Ave/W4 st)
- Waverly Diner (6 Ave/Waverly pl)
Those gas prices are amazing! I just paid $5.79 per gallon in California. 😭😭
I still love diners. Only problem I see here in CA is that the quality of the food has declined drastically while the prices have gone up a lot. It gets harder and harder justifying going there when you can get a gourmet breakfast for the same price somewhere else!
Going to diners for some pancakes or French toast and a coffee as dessert is a great idea though. 👍
I feel your pain. No real diners in the Bay area. I miss the diners in Ithaca and Binghamton back in New York.
Wow. That's beyond crazy
There are some great Diners in the Bronx. National Diner Westchester Square. The Diner in Throgg Neck Bruckner Blvd. The Diner across the street from Lehman High school. You should come check them out.
