Excellent Gareth. Full of vitality and joy. The electric piano has something of the tone of the record. It's a good point about all the pianists of that era being incredibly smiley. I think he was instructed to smile every so many bars on cue. I think nowadays they would go for the pensive moody approach. Great stuff, I can't help smile myself to Russ's tunes :)
Thanks Martyn - must admit to have several goes with the settings and a mix of grand piano and honky tonk plus more than a liberal dose of after-effect reverb but the result is quite pleasing and of course far less destructive than a real honky-tonk piano 😂 it’s bizarre the more I think about smiling pianists (being a grumpy one by default, myself) and love the idea of pensive and moody of today’s players - somewhat on point, chap 🤔 😂 many thanks for listening 👍🏻 G
Great playing Gareth you sound just like him! I remember trying to play like him in the 1960's he was a bit of musical genius I think being largely untrained unlike Mrs Mills and Liberace. He was certainly a talented pianist I once saw him live and he was flawless in his playing always with that practiced backward tenth he was famous for.😎😎
Thank you Steve - that’s amazing you saw him live…I have an Aunt who also saw him and said he was amazing 🤩 a really humble man by all accounts and caught the moment before Beatlemania changed the direction of popular music. Thanks so much for your supportive comment - G 👍🏻
Well that's a bit of fun! Can't say it's my favourite sound effect on the keyboard, but one can't deny the smileyness of it, which is just as true of your talented fingers! Thanks Gareth!
Thanks Alison I do believe you have mentioned that once or twenty-twice 😂 so it’s very good of you to listen in - spoiler alert …the same style for uploads on 15th and 22nd March 🙄 😉 🎹 🙌
Hi Gareth! I meant to post a comment a while back... Just wanted to say I absolutely love what you've done with the four Russ pieces you've uploaded - especially China Tea and particularly the left hand on this one. It has a brilliant bouncy quality to it which really drives the whole piece along. And as I say - your other uploads are lovely (I quite like your 'Side Saddle' from a few years back as well). -Peter
Hello Peter - that’s very kind of you as know how keenly you know of all Russ/Trevor’s output. I have never seen a pic or video of him where he is not smiling and having a thoroughly good time…which is how it should be 🎹 🔥 🙌 All the very best Gareth
@@ggthepianoman9870 Hi Gareth! That's very kind of you to say. Yes Russ was always smiling - to the extent I believe 'keep smiling' was his motto for living life! He definitely got a lot enjoyment from playing the piano - and I don't blame him! If I could play as well as yourself or Russ I would enjoy it thoroughly, that's for sure. Best wishes, Peter
I do love how jolly this piece is. A good way to wake up and start the day.
