The uk charity Scope ran a campaign years ago Called “end the awkward” which highlighted that able folk feel so awkward laughing along at a person with a disability making a joke especially if it includes making fun of your disability. Or don’t know how to speak to or include someone with a disability when socialising. I shared in an amputee support group and had to delete after a few "I don't get it" Karen's harassed me about it. I'd already fallen in love with that ceramics printing video...and when I saw yours (didn't notice it was you) I darn near fell off the couch laughing at how much fun was being had. LBKA 12/30/21
I have zero idea why anyone would have a negative or superstitious reaction to that video. You were, as far as I can conclude, having fun. If people laughed, in my understanding they were laughing _with_ you, not _at_ you, so what's the harm? Then again I am sure there are people who don't make a clear distinction between laughing _with_ someone vs laughing _at_ someone, so that may have something to do with it. Or it may be something as banally awful as believing "Watching videos by anyone but devotees of [my religion] is sinful." This comment seems pretty unhelpful. I'm sorry!
Respected Madam, you are doing very great job, I am AK amputee and get very importanant knowledge from sharing your vidios. Most of the amputee patients do not know the details of the process of making artificial limbs, the material which best and lot of things by your videos we learn lot of important things and the way to overcome the nervousness and live the life happily. People feel like being sent to hell for non-conformity. You did something outrageous: you performed in a way that only someone disabled in this specific way with your specific traits could do and it looked funny. People feel/are being tought it's not OK to be non-conformist. From their standpoint you are supposed to be a tragic figure, you need to hide your deformity and be sad about it, not take advantage of it, and (by god!) you're not supposed to have fun under any circumstances. From my standpoint? You do you.
I used to be an AKA (now dba) and I'm seriously sure that the hell thing is because ppl associate disabled people and laughter as some form of oil/water concoction that will make their laugh sound hateful and therefore, to heck you go! It's dumb but....it happens.

I don't get it either. I suppose, like you said, that if you laugh or make a video that is funny means you or someone laughing at you would go to hell, which is ridiculous. Not only that, but I had a similar situation when a dear friend of mine got angry at me for sending him a picture of me doing a happy dance/pose the day I got to take my prosthetic home saying that I shouldn't make a joke about my amputation and that I should think about the fact that some people don't deal with it lightly. I ultimately blocked him, unfortunately because that type of attitude is not healthy for me. What, am I supposed to be depressed or lament the situation. Not a chance, I look at this as the 110% improvement if the quality of my life. I will not, not be myself and also be happy and grateful, not being who I was for 8 years prior to my amputation. I had 4 compound fractures on my tib/fib, and I was in constant pain, went through so many surgeries and so much therapy and so much depression. Furthermore, I was never able to fully heal and finally now I have my life back. In addition, I'm 6 months post op, have had my prosthesis for about 3 months and already doing handstands and cartwheels, please check out my channel if you like, it would an honor. I binge-watch your videos and have learned a lot from you and from others like Footless Jo and Annika etc. and from all this I have gained so much knowledge and so much confidence and will continue to learn and study and get inspiration from you guys. It's kinda sad when they get all butt hurt at our amputation jokes, like "That's not a laughing matter!" I had a great joke, and it's more of a reflection of how oblivious I can be rather than physical disability. When I went from the hospital to acute rehab post-op, I was weighed, I wasn't told my weight anytime in the hospital, so at rehab I was like "Yeah! I've lost, like, ten pounds!" But then I kinda plateaued and didn't feel different... You got your leg cut off; of course you lost weight, dummy! I laughed so hard when I snapped. And we're not talking the next day. It was like, weeks later!
From what I can guess, they thought you weren't just clowning around. In which case laughing would seem a little gauche. You were making something to make people laugh, though, and like you I don't really get why people would feel awkward laughing at it.

I also have several shirts that I think are hilarious, "Some Assembly Required"; "All The Piggies Went To Market"; "Skipped Leg Day"... and people rarely laugh. Soooo sad and dissapinting... Your vid was WAY funny and I think it's funny because it is funny, it doesn't matter if you're able-bodied or disabled that is some creative and funny goofery... I think people say they're going to hell when they see your video, and don't laugh when they see my shirts, because our culture is so over programmed to ignore disability that they won't even pay attention or react when we want them to.

I’m guessing you made that video because you saw that blob stamp thingy and thought something like “that looks like my stump, and it would be funny to make a video of my stump doing that.” (Your setup was clever, and it was a silly, funny video). They then watched it and thought, “OMG, I’m getting a laugh at the expense of a poor disabled person. I’m a bad person for doing that.” Of course, the ironic thing is you made the video to be funny. I’m guessing you wanted them to get a laugh out of it, to help brighten everyone’s day. People are weird.
Oh, it's excessively easy to understand. Funny + "I'm going to hell" means they found it funny, but are recognizing it to be dark humour, not politically correct (in this case, laughing at a disability). They are "Going to hell" for laughing at this. What REALLY makes a difference is this is a SELF-made self-posted video, and I suspect these people are interlopers, people who don't know your channel, probably got randomly recommended this video by YT (increasing the popularity, thus increasing the recommendations), and thus are unaware that this is YOUR joke that YOU are making, making it okay to laugh at a disabled person. Personally, I make the most jokes of the people around me, my current fave being "People across the bar better watch it, I can kick their butts from here" (miming popping off my prosthetic and tossing it across the room). And I try to always say "Ow!" everytime someone bumps my fake foot. :) Reminds me of the LegoLeg video that introduced me to your channel in the first place, I believe it was shared somewhere in a "I'm going to hell" kinda way, people finding it funny, I think talking about always stepping on Legos (it also gave me the best analogy for telling people how it feels when I walk, akin to stepping on Lego with every step.

You know, I saw that short and thought it was kind of in bad taste...but NOT because of anything you did...not that AT ALL...and I don't think I said anything in the comments (sorry if I did and it was negative...I'm trying to be better about that). Why did I think it was in bad taste? Only because you do so many videos showing how to be positive...and then...I don't know. I really don't. It just SEEMED that video showed people on an assembly line, being treated in a robot fashion...and not in a people fashion. The world is getting cruel in that respect. I went for a cyctoscopy (microscope in the bladder) the other day and was told 'she needs to be able to get at you'. It was a room with a curtain and a bunch of other tables where people were lined up like they were on an assembly line. I mean 'she needs to get at you'??? How insensitive. I left devastated.

But I doubt it has anything to do with you. It's sad we think it's normal to be treated like folks on an assembly line. Like when you made that video showing getting a cast made for the new stump and saying 'he will get up all in my business'-type thing...I mean what happened to people treating others with dignity and respect...and thinking the lack of that is well, normal now.

I think some people never learned *why* laughing at disabled people is bad, so assume anything that is disability + funny = an unforgivable sin.

@@stormtrooper88 youtube has an bot that will delete your comments if it thinks it violates its standards. I have had my stuff removed for literally nothing with no explanation. Dont blame the creator, its youtube 9 times out of ten. Type a naught word on or a threat and see what happens. Sometimes the bot is not so smart

You know, I saw that short and thought it was kind of in bad taste...but NOT because of anything you did...not that AT ALL...and I don't think I said anything in the comments (sorry if I did and it was negative...I'm trying to be better about that). Why did I think it was in bad taste? Only because you do so many videos showing how to be positive...and then...I don't know. I really don't. It just SEEMED that video showed people on an assembly line, being treated in a robot fashion...and not in a people fashion. The world is getting cruel in that respect. I went for a cyctoscopy (microscope in the bladder) the other day and was told 'she needs to be able to get at you'. It was a room with a curtain and a bunch of other tables where people were lined up like they were on an assembly line. I mean 'she needs to get at you'??? How insensitive. I left devastated.

@@AmputeeOT you're welcome. Sometimes it seems people are insensitized to how people are treated and to see it and laugh...maybe that's what they meant by 'I'm going to hell for laughing at this'. But I doubt it has anything to do with you. It's sad we think it's normal to be treated like folks on an assembly line. Like when you made that video showing getting a cast made for the new stump and saying 'he will get up all in my business'-type thing...I mean what happened to people treating others with dignity and respect...and thinking the lack of that is well, normal now.
