Loved listening to John then and now. (I know they’re national ads, but it’s interesting hearing commercials that actually get and keep your attention. Unlike the extra long boring ad breaks today, that most stations run at the same time).

More than anyone else, JRL is the guy who inspired me to go into radio. I would record him practically every night. Then, I'd turn on my record player, drop the needle, and practice, practice, practice until I nailed the intro. When I finally got it right, I'd flip on my little AM transmitter and broadcast my newfound talents to the neighbors!
Greatest night jock ever. His quick wit and ability to adlib was amazing. Anyone who ever listened to "Boogie Check" would have to agree. I listened to him a few nights ago on WGN and he still has it!

Had the radio glued to my ear at this time! Getting out of the 8th grade, listening from Winnebago Illinois about 100 miles from Chicago!

8th grade graduation from St. Paul Lutheran School in Rockford IL was 6/7/1979 and I turned fourteen a few days later. Came home from the graduation and while I was changing out of my dressy clothes, heard Anita Ward's Ring My Bell for the first time. Funny I can remember that so well!

The Dan Ingram of Chicago Top 40 radio.

Please don't take offense, but some would consider Larry Lujack to be the Dan Ingram of Chicago Top 40. It's all about one's perspective.

WLS was founded by Sears in 1924, then in 1928-1959 was called WLS, the Prairie Farmer station, 1959-2007 WLS - ABC In Chicago Radio, 2007-2011 WLS was Citadel Chicago station, Since 2011, WLS is Cumulus Chicago flagship station. This station is playing news now. Can we hear WLS. Though I am not in Chicago

Interesting to hear. I was born in 1980.... Lots of Disco (from what I read 1979 was the abosolute last year of disco), oil crisis... Datsun commercial and trucker protesting high price of diesel. Malaise era of Jimmy Carter. A 350 small block in 1969 made 300HP, the same 350 engine in 1979 made 144HP!!! 😢

"Lots of Disco (from what I read 1979 was the abosolute last year of disco),..." Most popular music genre at middle school by time I graduated was disco. At high school I entered 2.5 months later, it was new wave.

Man I wish it was unscoped.any songs on here are all over RUclips makes no sense..also the people posting unscoped shows are getting the most views and time played..makes sense ..Scoped is thee most frustrating thing to listen to..it's like a big tease IMO..thanks

If I posted unscoped audio, You Tube makes the revenue on my work, instead of me.

@@sbphillips177 In this sector on You Tube (airchecks) I actually have the most followers at 28,000. The number 2 in this sector has 14,000 followers. So I’m doing ok. This channel is about the air talent, not the music. That is why it is followed by so many people in the broadcasting business.
